Outdoor Problem??

With the amount of riders sitting out or going to other series to race, does anything else think this is the beginning of the end of the Nationals? Listening to podcasts all year it seems that the privateers think outdoors just aren't worth the time anymore and they support more supercross races. To me DC and MXSports have to find a way to increase payouts or they will be done.

Outdoors wont die. Its the root of the entire sport. Good luck finding companies willing to shell out $200,000+ for payouts every week. Our sport isnt big enough to make advertising that effective.

Unfortunately, supercross is where the money is. I hate that because I would much rather watch the nationals. Something about raw speed and strength of pounding out 30 minute motos in 85-100 degree weather over gnarly breaking bumps and ruts is just way more fun to watch. I get it though, these guys want to go where the money is. Cant fault them for that

Outdoors is where my money gets spent. I live an hour from Detroit and didn't even go to the SX because it is just isn't that much fun in person. Now nationals on the other hand are awesome in person and I will always be attending at least one every summer. Based on the crowds I saw at Red Bud and Washougal last year I don't think the outdoors is in any trouble. We have had tons of great riders come and go through the years and the series seems stronger than ever to me. MX>SX by far!

Because the SX payouts are so big?

Compared to racing two full motos in major heat yea. Plus nationals cost more on travel and equipment. It seems like every privateer I have listened to on podcasts or interviews don't see the value in the nationals.

Yep outdoors has maybe 5 more years in its current format/support

I don't think riders are sitting out or going to other series by choice (except certain regional sx champions). They don't have rides here and are able to get them elsewhere. As a privateer, that makes sense financially for them and I am glad they are able to get paid for their efforts.

With that being said, I don't see the nationals going away because the dudes in 15th-20th go to Canada. There will always be more privateers that fill those spots. There is always going to be the factory teams running outdoors because the core fans of the sport are outdoors and those fans are the ones buying bikes, gear, parts, etc.

outdoors are definitely in trouble. crowds keep getting smaller and smaller. there are less racers following the series. yup. Outdoors is just about finished.

Same thread. Different year. I made one similar, back in 2005. Davey keeps making me look silly. I might even go to a few this year.
