Uh, no.

The '18 got a price increase (R) and the kicker is removed on BOTH models (the RX no-longer has a kicker for,the same price as a '17...you know, the '17 that HAS a kicker...). The kicker should be available in a kit...that's extra $, btw. Therefore, the "deal" for the electric-start crowd is on a remaining '17 RX...especially those Guy's that want both starters.

Parts for the '17 haven't been a problem for my friends that have '17s.

There were some cracked-cases at the kick-start-shaft early on and those were warrantied.

Truth be told, the '17 R would be the ultimate deal if you can find one when the '18s come out. Why? Less is more. No battery to maintain or replace. Less electrical crap. Easiest to make REALLY, REALLY LIGHT-WEIGHT...etc. All the while, I'll take a '17 RX (my personal scoot is coming from their race-pool of '17 RXs)...my shirt fat ass needs electric start when I stall it on the side of a hill!

So, uh...again...no...Honda screwed no-one. I've got more hours on the R and RX than I can count: they're BULLET PROOF. If they put a Wide Ratio in it and provide us with an actual "X" version? I'll be getting even MORE hours on Honda's new scoots.

My notes from hours on the '17:

I prefer a 48T on the rear of the RX & run the mild map for off-road...I even drop a tooth on the R (Glen Helen/Pala: I get more out of 2nd and 3rd...I'm an off-roader at heart).
I like the Andrew Short bend on both.
The wider tank-shrouds on the RX make it easier to hang on to with my legs.
Raptor or HRC pegs are truly nice (bigger).
RX engine hangers a slight mod (2-3mm hole mid-belt/go see HRC race bikes) make for a more steel-frame-like feel.
Guts seat foam and cover with ribs across the back to keep me "in the saddle".
These things REALLY LIKE VP T4!
PC system is actually QUIETER than the stock rattle-can system.
I'm amazed at Metzer's new "Mid" tires...even on hard-pack out in the Dez (with Michelin Bibs).
An R tank requires R shrouds (for those that're thinking about it for their RX!).
Strategically located Ti bolts that're are of fairly standard size (regular m6, m8 and m10) can pull a coupl'a pounds off.
A Galfer front rotor is tougher in the rocks (tho, this bike has a waaaay better stock rotor than the old ones).
Changing the front sprocket may be the easier/less expensive way to adjust hearing...and, always, get a new chain!
PC & FC seem to have the new forks figured out.

The 2017 sells for $8795. The electric start including installation is $1,000. The electric start kit is back ordered with no ETA from Honda.

With the 2018 costing $9195 including electric start ($500 less than adding to the 17) and shipping in 2 months I feel 100% screwed over by Honda.

Either you don't pay retail for your shit or you can't do basic math.

So uh...yes Honda screwed us over. Old&New made the math easy for you TeamGreen....and your statement about parts available is total bullshit. I have had my sub-frame on order since February 6, and was just told it will be at least another month. Most OEM parts are on nationwide back order. So the 18 bike will probably be out before I can get parts for my 17. Yeah, I feel screwed over....so much so that my 18 bike will probably not be a Honda.
Wow, you mad, bro? Let's take a look at some of that math that you tried to get all shitty about and throw some harsh reality in for good measure...

Some of us knew enough to make an MXer out of an RX (which also has the right engine hangers). Swap out the left peg mount and the kick-stand boss is gone. A 19" rear wheel, if you must, $500 for a real nice one. There were no less than 2 lengthy threads right here at Vital...some with complete explanations of "how & why"; but, I digress...

As for price? I lined up bikes for $9K (or less) for friends when they came out. That's for an RX: ELECTRIC and KICK, stock. For $9K...ALLLLLLLLL DAY!

How's that math?

Let's continue, shall we?
Left R foot-peg mount is about $16 at Babbit's.
19" Rear Wheel is $450.
Tire, tube, locks is $150 on a bad day.
Let's say I have to have the Ti Tank: $775 with R/shrouds/"cover" & fasteners.

So, that's a bike that's already got BOTH starters: $9K
Goodies to make it "Rish": $1,391

$10,391

And now you've got 2 rear-wheels, a big tank and kickstand for off-road/trail-riding and a spare rear-wheel...too!

So, there's my "bullshit". There's nowhere to get your sub-frame? That's a bummer. I'd have someone fix the one you've got; but, that's probably just more bullshit, right?

So, you guys stay angry if you must. All my friends, that listened, got the RX: not a single one of'em is bitching. In-fact, I've recently been asked to go find a '17 for a friend that realized the '18 RX had no kicker...
Go figure.

Btw, the bike, pictured in my previous post is an RX...at an MX track...on a day when a Canadian, on another BOX STOCK RX, went out and shredded whilst a Russian on an HRC CRF-RCF couldn't catch him...
So, again, I'm thinking the RX is just fine for the track.

Honda really screwed over the people who purchased the 17.

For your benefit: as purchased by many around these parts...Kickstarter & The Button...& as ridden by me at Milestone the day of this pic...$9K. If ya have to have all the cool guy "R" stuff? I addressed that for the other angry guy just above this post.

TeamGreen you gotta be a Democrat. I called you to the carpet for this statement:

"Parts for the '17 haven't been a problem for my friends that have '17s."

You responded with page of shit you've done to your RX. I don't give a shit what pegs or wheels you bought. Your statement is bullshit, false, not true, garbage, a fib, a white lie, a typical liberal deflection. Most OEM parts for the 17 are on backorder. It is a fact.

I look forward to your three page response on the flooring you have in your house, or whatever....because you are obviously not getting the point.

Funny, me and the guys I know get parts easy (well certainly not heard of any complaints)....maybe the dealer is your problem? Mind you none of us have needed a complete new subframe....

just bought a '17 R a few weeks ago for $8k, just picked up an e-start kit w/wiring harness for $565, and a lithium battery for $80. I am installing it myself. So $8645 isn't horrible imo. I haven't looked at oem parts availability but the aftermarket sure does suck right now.

Awesome bike, way better than any previous Honda. Everyone I know that has bought one loves it. None have had any problems. I needed to get the suspension set to my weight, but other than that its amazing. We had e-starts as standard in the UK so I can see why you'd be a bit annoyed if you didn't. Other than that I'm amazed by the negativity on Vital towards the 17/18 in a number of different posts. I can only think its coming from people that haven't ridden one.

You're a complete SFI with comprehension problems; but, that's beside the point. Also, you bought an R. My ultimate point: shoulda bought the RX. More bike for a better price.

Again, I digress...

I wonder if ya jinxed it by hanging "117" on it. Probably the worst and least pilot-friendly POS Lockheed ever conceived. Might as well paint your bike Blue-Camo and hang it up-side-down on the "Radar Stand" out at Groom.

Yep I'm lying....you caught me....because your "friends" are able to get wheels and foot pegs, there is no problem with getting OEM parts. Who has the comprehension problem? Yep, I'm sure screwing myself because in 2 months the 18's are out and I still can't get parts for my 17....all my fault....yep. How ridiculous of me it was to think that I should be able to get parts before the following year bike is released?! Maybe I'll get it by 19....till then I'll keep screwing myself I guess.

Thank you for your recent online order.

This e-mail is being sent to you in regards to order #1420799, a recent online order that you have placed with us. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has contacted us in regards to this order, as this order contains one part that is on a nationwide back order with the manufacturer. The part that is back ordered is as follows with the estimated release date:

50200-MKE-A00 FRAME, RR                                              ESTIMATED RELEASE DATE MARCH 05

Please be aware that this is a nation wide back order with the manufacturer. If you do not find this part in stock with another dealer, they will have to order this part and it will be on back order with them also. You may cancel your back order with us; by doing so you will remove yourself from the back order waiting list. Ordering with another company that places this on back order will move you to the end of the waiting list.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a representative on our Customer Support line at (231) 737-4542.

When did anyone call you a liar? You're not a liar. You're just an angry dude that lashes out because YOUR SUB-FRAME is on back order.

Let's look back...take a look at the STUPID SHIT you've said and have called me...all because YOU DID NOT COMPREHEND EXACTLY WHAT I SAID.

1. Never said you lied about your sub-frame.
2. Never called you ANYTHING until you started acting like an ass. A COMPLETE ASS. TANTRUM...etc., etc. ...
3. You need to stop and think: there are people around here that might have a line on the part you need...do ya think they're gonna reach out to a key-board warrior talking complete shit about an ENTIRE COMPANY & its intent...

Just because you can't get your sub-frame...yet...?

As for the '18s being out in 2 months? We'll see.

Wouldn't you be PISSED if someone reading this coulda gotten you a sub-frame?

Wow…I’m surprised that you actually had the intestinal fortitude to respond before running it by your coworkers to validate yourself. The bottom line is this: You made a false statement about parts availability, and I called you on it….Just own it! But I know you won’t…your arrogance won’t allow it, and we’ve now graduated to bullet points…bravo!
1. Truth hurts sometimes.
2. There are two cheeks on an ass, and you are right between them.
3. It was Honda’s statement reference the 18’s out in July, not mine.
4. I’m a key-board warrior talking complete shit about and ENTIRE COMPANY & its intent? By your reaction it’s obvious you wear Honda undies to bed, and I’ve shattered your safe space. If the company’s intent is to deter repeat purchases by failing to make parts available for several months….Well, you are succeeding!
5. Speaking facts about a company’s lack of support for its patrons is not shit….it’s simply truth. Honda can choose to ignore or acknowledge it. Just as I can choose to buy another Honda….or not.
6. I have every right to let others know facts when people like you post your biased crap.
7. Now go back to your office, look at the picture of the President you have hanging there, and learn how to spell his name correctly.
8. I’m done responding to you after this….as you are clearly just an oxygen thief who won’t own up.

Today's bike is an RMZ; but, I usually ride Huskies.

Checked on your sub-frame and it gets worse: 1st week of July.

I don't wear Honda stuff; but, I do appreciate them pushing the '17 out the door after the earthquake and all that...also, I -REALLY- dig the RX.

As for false claims, the way you attempt to rewrite what was said...etc. ...
You remind me of Hillary: a truly false narrative and a fall-back position based on indentity politics.

Your sub-frame seems to be the SINGLE "sniveling event" in here: did you EVEN BOTHER TO -READ- the other posts from GUYS THAT HAVE GOTTEN THEIR PARTS?
No, you didn't. Did you, angry little man...?

I hope your part isn't on the list of those currently getting pushed out until July. Btw, there are some great fabricators in the Southland that fix sub-frames all day.

So, now...I'm gonna go get on the Zook and do some laps. Cole says, "Hi!"...And I'll bet the guys over at the big white truck have that sub-frame...but...never-mind all that. Why wound anyone wanna help a drama queen that simply whines like a Kardashian on the web...?

See you at the track...or not...

Huh How is it that every argument turns into a political issue? Can't we all just agree to disagree?

Anyways, my uncle (who bleeds red) has a 17 CRF450R and loves it. We just told him about the 18's a few days ago and he was pretty freaking bummed, which I understand. I also understand why some feel that Honda screwed them. Now, I've never been a huge Honda and I'm still not, but I understand Honda getting the 17 out and putting the updates and all that on the 18 only a few months later. Can't be mad at them for that at all.

For those of you considering one, the left over 17's now have a 1K dealer rebate on them.

For fucks sakes man, I think we might be able to give Honda a mulligan on this one, being they had an earthquake pretty much destroy their factory. Do you really think Honda is holding back all the subframes just to be a prick to you? Of course you don't so how about just straightening out your existing one for a little while until they are available and quit bitching about it.

For those of you considering one, the left over 17's now have a 1K dealer rebate on them.
Where did you see that I looked on the website and they only have it up to 16.

It is ONLY for '16 and earlier models.

Btw, there are still new '17 RXs out there. I found a couple today in MO.
