This spells the death of internal combustion engined motorcyles, they are VINTAGE!

MX tracks wont be the same, dirtbiking will be reinvented. Forget the big 5, ANYONE can knock out these babies. Imagine those funky mountain bike linkages on FACTORY Ebikes!

Designer Neil Saiki says about 75 percent of buyers are seasoned motocross riders, which speaks to the bike's dirt cred. Saiki had motocross hall-of-famer Jeff Emig flog a prototype at a track in Las Vegas last year, and Emig says it's the real deal. "I'm expecting the production version to have a huge impact on the motor sports industry," he says. We probably won't see James Stewart or Ryan Villopoto racing them anytime soon (although Saiki says the AMA is interested in racing e-bikes) but the guys at Dirt Rider (.pdf) called an early prototype of the Zero X "the inevitable sound of the future of off-road motorcycle riding."

Yeah they need to get to work on styling because when KTM and the big 4 come out with their Ebikes you can bet they will look as good as the 4 strokes. Unless this bike is extremely cheap to buy it won't last against the big 4. I give them big kudo for being one of the first out of the gate!

it's to bad it looks like a glorified moped.

if it performed like a 250 at least it will be cool. but I am afraid it is a full size mx bike with a 50cc performance....... but like the four strokes they will get it perfected.

Is it just me or does this look more like riding a bicycle then a dirtbike ? I'm not saying that it is but it's jut weird like this, so quiet. It looks a lot less dangerous then riding a CR250f for instance.

They should put some pedals on it and market it as a hybrid. "When the battery fails you on the trail...pedal back".

Agree! This is the best thing that happened to our sport in 50 years. Basically anyone with a welder and bicycle parts can build a competitive bike.

Sure I'm exaggerating a bit, but the cost will be reduced which will benefit US big time!

Evolution rules!

that was the most pathetic, boring race i've ever watched. When MX goes E, i'm hanging up my boots and buying a Harley.

Hmmm..

I can't say for sure but I don't think thats the only electric dirt bike out there.

During the Nats I was to meet up with a company to photo the newest electric dirt bike for a Mag. The owner had something come up and couldn't make it. So I never did the shoot.

I don't have any of that info left but I am almost positive this was not the bike I was to shoot.

I do know the specs I got on it were quite impressive. Since I got the specs on the phone I don't have them to share with you.

There was also talk of some noise being in the final production model for the obvious safety issues with a silent bike.

This bike in this thread boasts 20 hp for a bike that weighs 140 pounds.. That doesn't sound to bad to me.

Zero also claims 0 to 30 MPH in less than 2 seconds.

It is interesting for sure and hey this could be a great thing.

I know I hate to buy gas as I am sure a lot of you do too.

That is Bill Dube....... incredibly smart man who helped bring the A123 Li-Fe/Nanophosphate batteries to the top of the lithium based market.... while the A123's are Li-ion's, and slightly lower in voltage than a typical Li-po, they more than make up for it in durability, current output, and safety.....

and ya..... that drag bike is stupid gnarly..... 7.8 quarter at over 160 is no joke for a flashlight.....

I'd like to see someone do one lap on a real motocross track with that thing. I doubt it will be much fun at Gatorback. Fail.

Those weird European electrical plugs won't work with American 110 outlets, I

loudly protest. Seriously, I've like traveled and stuff.

Also, who's gonna drag a 125 foot bright orange extension cord thru the whoops

and not be laughed at ?

Also, where you going to plug your bike in at a motocross track?

Also, can you get one in Kawasaki green with a two stroke engine as an option?

This is how much they break when your riding them.

Sure the lack of vroom-vroom noises is underwhelming.

But if you and a dozen of your friends are bashing bars with each other in someone's backyard in the middle of a residential area and no one bitches- that would be awesome.

In some ways the lack of noise will be fun too. Think of hearing your buddies grunt as they come up a bit short on a jump, or some inadvertant squeal coming from under the helmet of the biggest guy on the track as he overshoots a berm. Yelling at the rider that's holding you up around the track will have a bigger impact if he can actually hear the names you're calling his mother. Good times.

IMO, until they can deliver power that does not fade within an hour of riding, they're going to have a very limited acceptance. And, for racing, it's going to present a conundrum. To deliver power that doesn't fade over the course of a race, they have to govern/regulate the voltage at something resembling

Peak - (FadeBuffer)

(I'm not an EE, but that's the basic concept)

so that battery drain is not transmitted as diminished power the longer you ride. But, of course, the first race hop-up a tinkerer puts in would be to defeat the governor so that peak is delivered from the gitgo. Then, power fades down from the first moment you twist the throttle, the longer you ride. First lap: clear that triple, no probs. Fifth lap: case the bitch, big time. All the races will be way slower on the last lap than the first. That's a major downer, IMO.
