Why no 300sx from KTM?

True 300, only aluminum perimeter frame in it's class, and cheaper than a 300 XC conversion.

A longer stroke for the 300 would be nice.

The powder blue shines up nicely, though! Smile

Easy. A moto 2 stroke has to go around on the pipe wide open. if you can do that on a 300 wide open you should be on a 4 stroke making money. Most offroad 300 guys ride a gear high. Plus the sx has a lighter crank which really makes a 300 a handful. Most guys in moto better off on a 250. Most offroad pros chose the 250 for the same reason. 300 for hard enduro.

I tried to buy a 300 mx from one of your distributors about 9 months ago. Never got a reply to my emails. So I bought a ktm.

In 2013 my practice bike was a 250 and my race bike was a 300; so I often times rode both bikes throughout a race weekend. I found that I was actually faster on my 250...especially on the starts. The 250 with the lighter piston revved faster out of the gate. Additionally, the 250 vibrated ALOT less. The KTM cranks are not balanced the greatest from the factory, and when you add on the heavier 300 piston you can really feel the difference. The cranks also cannot hold up long term with the additional weight (I've posted pics in previous threads).

Now woods riders and vet riders the 300 would be perfect, doesnt hit as hard and can lug around in 3rd. However, the XC takes care of the woods riders so by adding a 300sx KTM doesn't add much to their market.

hmm.... i have over 3000 hard and high-speed miles and +200 hours on my 300xc with one piston change and nothing but oil changes. but yeah, no, for sure the cranks cannot hold up

Why? because the 250 is so tits already.

Side note, but it surprises me how much people on here bring up "make a 500 2-stroke and I'll buy it". Who the hell wants to ride an engine that big and actually have fun? Other than if you're in the desert I suppose but I'm thinking moto.

It's similar to what the 450 has done in regards to equalization and elevating everyone's riding.

A privateer could compete with factory teams because of the power of a box stock 500 was more than enough to compete with.

Thats what i was gonna say. My friend has 150 hours on his 2012 250xc and the thing has virtually no vibrations. Piston slapped it at 100 and that was it. My 14 TC250 has over 60 hours and there is no vibration. Gonna race it this year and throw a crank in it next year when i feel like it. Im not worried. These cranks hold up better then anything else out there. Numerous other people i have talked to have similar stories of 100 hour plus 250s and 300's that have opened them up and everything is tight still. To the OP, i agree with you on the 300SX needing to be a model. How about a 2018 KTM 300SX Factory Edition or a 2018 Husqvarna TC300 Factory edition ? Would be expensive but cheaper then a 250 SXF FE or 450 SXF FE thumper and people buy those Whistling I know it wont happen but would be cool.

If you would shift the poor bike every now and then they might not grenade on you quite so often!!! LOL

That's unfortunate; however, I am not in charge of the other dealers. I run mine independently and you wouldn't have had any trouble getting a hold of me.

I also know that Ralf Schmidt is extremely prompt with responding to inquiries on bikes so if you were really serious I would say you could've got a call back.

Considering I paid cash money for my KTM and was ready to do so on a TM I would say I was pretty serious. On the other hand someone seriously failed to take my money and it wasn't KTM.

i don't know man, if you were really serious then you would have waited a whole 20m waiting for the snobby KTM salesman to talk to you before leaving and threatening online to buy the dealership...

Peely your xc has a different crank then an sx. However, its still not an issue as the other guy tried to say. I had one with probably 4-500 hours on it. The lighter crank spools up faster which gives it more power everywhere.

Those TMs are sexy as hell. Considered one when I was shopping for my 125 but at $3k more than a Husqvarna I couldn't justify it. Happy with my tc125.

Glad you are having fun on the 125 (that's what this sport is all about).

Not sure who quoted you but our 125's are not $3,000 more than a new tc125...

Msrp:
2017 TM 125 MX is $8,259
2017 tc 125 is $7,000

Depending on in-state purchase vs out of state purchase and set-up fees (or lack thereof) and you could've probably had one for around the same price.

Would agree and I'm sure their marketing folks have the numbers on it. I think the target market would be over 40 and $10k tag on it, but I will agree the niche would be tiny.

Another factor could be what class can you run a 300 in your local MX AMA district.

Those marketing folks wouldn't want put a bike out if there very limited classes to race it in. It's just recently amateur rules have changed in some classes for equal displacement. My local district has 9 classes a 300sx is legal.. Not sure say 5 years ago if that was the case?

Bigger isn't always faster.
A former good frienc turned back stabbing ass hole- took his 250F and 450F to mill creek in Alabama. Hilly track. His lap times were better with the 250.

Same with me I was always faster on my 250f. Me being a competitive front-mid pack b rider- him being a mid pack local A rider

It was VERY interesting. I think it came down to corner speed. Only real reason we ran 450's was the low repair costs compared to a 250f.

If I were to get back in to racing a 250 two stroke would be my only option. Fun or nothing

Thanks.. probably 45 hours on it now. I prefer the 300 over the 330 for some tracks, 330 is a bit lazy by comparison .
