Michelin Starcross 5 Opinions

I just purchased my son a 17 YZ 125 and it came with Dunlop MX 52's. I was going to swap out the front for an Mx32 and ride until they are wore out.

My question is how do the Michelin Starcross 5's compare to the Dunlop MX 32's? The tracks were ride are groomed really well, rut up very nice and dry out some in the afternoon. The older Michelin's would chunk but all the reviews I've read have been great.

Should I go with the soft or medium compound?

Love Starcross 5s, I run soft front and rears (In AZ) and I have no complaints. Liked the softs much better than I did the mediums.

I run the 5's mediums in some rocky trails and have not had any issues with losing knobs. Love the tires

I had a sponsorship deal with Pirelli a few years back but the front tires were really bad. I have a deal with Kenda and the Washougal tires are great but you must stock up when they are available. So what does Pirelli have out now?

I've been using them since last November. Medium compound. They're an excellent and honestly quite durable tyre. I really rate them.

Well in Arizona, the track can be nice and prepped deep for the first 3 hours of riding, and then it dries out and gets hard parked. Rear tire is ready to replace after 6 months, front tire doesn't have a single knobby missing yet.

Softs tear knobs off. Pirelli Mx32 pro or Mx extra are good. I'd stay with Dunlop Mx3s. But a 125 should tear the knobs like a 450 does

I run the starcross 5 med for off road. I have been running dunlops since 2000, every time I go for something else I am disappointed and always return to dunlops. I started reading about these tires and decided to order some They are unreal for off road. My only bitch about them, is the carcass is weak against sharp rocks. I have never tryed for moto but am going to order a set and see.

I was always a pirelli mid soft scorpion guy, i tried everything until i found them and swore id never try anyting else. I went to my tire guy and he didnt have them once and i needed a rear, he made me a deal on a starcross 5 soft rear and its bar none the best rear i ever used. It work amazing everywhere and wears like iron.

I think they are pretty good tires. I will never run them though. The michelin guy is such a douche on pulpmx, never support him.

I used Kenda for a little way back but local bike shop didn't stock them after a while and went back to Michelins, I always get disappointed by dunlops, Tried all of the last two generations of them, MX3s was best traction but would last almost two rides and would be missing knobs all over the place on the rear and the front would tear side knobs off.

Never had knobs rip off on a Michelin, I'd like to try the new Pirelli's MX32's next or the new bridgestone battlecross.

I'm not sure who the Michelin guy is but I did call corporate about sponsorship and they gave me the CEO's number. Needless to say he is not the correct contact person for sponsorships. With that said has anyone had a Michelin sponsorship? Or know who to contact? I guess I will try to contact Michelin again next week.

I keep reading the positive comments about the Michelin soft tires but I'm thinking when the track dries out in the afternoon they would start to chunk.

I have actually had these tires since August, so they are not 6 months months along, more like 7. The front tire doesn't have a single knobbie missing. But the rear started shredding knobbies when I did my first desert race the day of the super bowl. Since I know you don't want to waste your money I can PM you screenshots of when I ordered them and what the front tire looks like right now, just PM if so. You could always run a soft up front and and a mid in the rear unless it causes handling issues you don't prefer, which I tried with Dunlops and they seemed to shear just as fast.

I didn't like the StarCross soft. The second I hit a part on the track that wasn't deep sand they were as slick as ice. I rode them for 4 days then bought a set of Dunlop MX3S. Now I feel comfortable again.

I've had the medium front on 3 different bikes all great,last forever.

Was running soft because I found 110/90 for $65 they chunk NEPA terrain. Have a medium rear on now.

Just threw a set of softs on my 150 sx for sand track riding!

Easier mounting, always a great feature!

Legit getting the 32s off was 80 percent of the battle

I hope they are good! What pressure should I run?
