Air forks vs. spring forks?

I am getting a new 350 in the next few weeks. Does FC know what they are doing with the AER forks?

Heres an easy one to ask 10 people at the track. What does the rebound adjustment do and how can you tell if you need to adjust it. 100% wont know. Translate that to air forks and thr possibility of losing a day at the track with a blown fork seal.

It seems like your track days are spent hanging with the wrong crowd.

100% is a pretty high number. I'd go with 20%.

Its not real rocket science. The problem with spring forks is slow leakage and most just want to go ride.

If your tires are a pound or two hard or soft, its no big deal, and you have a larger volume, so a little seepage has a lesser effect.
.
On a fork, a little bit of loss and its a totally different fork setting.

I hate air suspension. Not because it doesn't work, but because its not consistent without constant maintainance. I have way too many machines (12)to maintain as it is on a regular basis, not counting 7 vehicles.

Set it and forget it(for the most part) is nice.

I dumped 4 Fox Evol 3s for a full set of Walker Evans, once set, I haven't touched them all year.
Perhaps I am being a dumbass but Spring forks have slow leakages??!!

I've never met or seen anyone that's collapsed an air fork.

I've seen pictures and I saw that on the telly, but I've never seen it in person. That's all I am saying. But I have seen plenty of bikes, so I am not sure it's worth all the anxiety.

That response is like Jody saying he doesn't understand the effect of adding 1 tooth.
Savvy?

I do not have a bike with air forks, however I have a few friends that do.

One thing I noticed that I never even thought of before was how clean the fork oil stays without the metal spring. I changed fork oil for a friend in July of last year before he raced LL, and I just changed it again for him a few weeks ago.

When I poured the "used" fork oil out of the forks it was the cleanest used oil I've ever seen come out of suspension.

Ive personally seen two different sets of air forks collapse at the track. One at perris the other milestone. The perris incident was while he was out on the track. Milestone was in the pits. Thr milestone was a set of WP.

As I understand it, at least on the showa air forks on my 15 Kawi, it's impossible to collapse the fork (well not impossible, but very very very difficult) because the inner chamber (where the air pressure actually is) is completely contained...the out chamber, which is what you'd break riding...has a very small amount of air in it (I run 4 psi in my outer chamber) so even if that outer seal breaks, the fork still wouldn't collapse.
