Dunlop MX52's Any good?

I have tried all the tires mentioned here, save for the new starcross 5, and I personally really like the Bridgestone 203/204. Front end feel is great with those Bridgestones. The pirellis are great too, feel very similar to the Dunlops, but have better longevity than the Dunlops. The Dunlops are good, just wear WAY too fast for my taste.

This is coming from an off-road harescramble guy.

Oh, and stay away from the MX52s. At the very least, get rid of the front...

Have you ever ran the 403 404? If so how did they compare to 203 204s?

I may put the 52s from my 250f on my ktm150 when I sell it in a couple month so it sells w new tires.

Here in michigan, there is a lot of sand most places, or good soft loam at least. I never seem to go to hardback tracks, but think the 403404 will work when I do.

I'm sure lots of people can't tell, but lots can. I can. Anyone at a REAL novice mx level or higher should be able to tell. I would hope anyway...

I have 773s on my non current rm250 still. They work pretty well in soft, but harder stuff they start to get real loose. I just switch to hardpack tires for hardpack tracks.

No, I have not. I know many guys that love the 403/404, but here in Florida, the 203/204 is what I prefer. But anything has to be better than the Dunlop MX52.

What I have noticed on the MX3S front and rear on my FC450 is if there is any moisture on the track they are magic. When dry and hard there is a very noticeable difference in traction. Out here in Southern California, it is not uncommon to find half the track moist and half dry. This is when it is noticeable to me. I never really felt that way on the Bridgestone 403/404 combo. We have had a very wet winter so traction was great but then we had temps in the 90s and the tracks dried up. Your mileage may vary. I also have 3.9 hours on the tires and the rear is noticeably worn.
I bought some Bridgestones from Rocky Mountain for a fair price plus Bridgestone has a promotion going for a $40 rebate on a set. I went with the X30 front and X40 rear.

Was thinking of trying the 403/404. I used to use 756 for anything other than baked hardpack and loved them.

Is there a tire that covers it all like the 756 did or close to it?

Are the 203 and 204 any good? Id say my riding is intermediate to soft/loam to sand. No real deal hard pack really.
They're dunlops, they will be rounded and chunking knobs by 4th ride anyway. I love the starcross 5 mediums and the 3s, but between the 2 the Michelins track a little better and seem to last a little longer in rocky soil (for me). During the summer i'm riding at breezewood in rocky soil one week, then riding in playground sand by the ocean the next week.

Nope, front 52 is real poopy. I'm in northern Indiana and I love the 3s and the new Michelins are really good and mount up like a dream imo.

What I've found is that the MX3 is very predictable, which for me is the best trait to have for a front tire. For the rear I'll run damn near anything as long as it's got a sharp edge.

I run a mx3 front and for durability a starcross medium or soft rear. They wear like iron. I run this combo everywhere. I ride sand and hard pack. Loam on race day. To answer your question I feel like the mx52 just doesn't have the same predictable/ trustworthy feel at turn in. It may just wash at any moment. This feeling isn't as noticeable on bikes that turn well like a Honda or zuke as it is on a bike that doesnt like a Yz. You put a mx3 on a Yamaha and it changes the whole bike ! Honda or Suzuki not so much.

The starcross 5 110 rear on my 250f was awesome everywhere. Loam, sand, hard pack... super predictable and wore excellently

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I really like them. I bought a set last year and I've taken them everywhere! Hard-pack, soft, sand... they held up great for me although I only been riding track for about 14 months now.

With that said, I was on a pair of shitty Maxxis tyres before them. I'm pretty sure a pair of wooden tyres would've been better. I'm going to try the MX32's when these 52's are finished.

The Starcross 5 medium rear is by far my favorite and lasts a long time. 20+ hours on my rear.
I just started the build on my sons 17 YZ 125 and it has MX 52s from the factory. I have a deal with Kenda but they are currently out of the Washougals. The Dunlop mx32s work well but wear quick. Now that I have been reading about the Michelins I may order a set. Most of the tracks we race at are prepped really well in the am and dry out a little towards the afternoon.

Would the Starcross 5 mediums work well in prepped conditions?
