I'm a regular DP show listener and I had to rewind the podcast today to make sure I heard it right. Bob's a crazy MF'er, haha

Fuckin love the DP show. I listen as often as I can, used to get to listen everyday when I drove a box truck.

My freshman basketball coach used to emulate Bob Knight. Needless to say, he wasn't too popular. Had he been effective, and we won games, that woulda been one thing. But we sucked and everyone hated each other.

Remember woody Hayes?

I saw a vid of him getting all pissed off and punching himself with both fists in the temples so hard he knocked himself out.

Knight is an idiot, the stuff he did, he wdnt do it to normal people on the streets. Safer to stay in his little Hoosier safe zone, where he can do no wrong.

Growing up I lived 20 minutes from Bloomington. My dad took me to a bunch of IU games. I was obsessed with Matt Damon. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, bob took my dad golfing with him and would check in on him.

I grew up 20 min south of Bloomington, I also have some stories of Coach Knight and things he did for people with cancer in the area and he never wanted anything for it.

29 years at Indiana not one NCAA violation, has the highest graduation rate on any coach ever, 3 national titles and could of easily had two more if not for injuries. He also donated and helped raise millions of dollars for the university library. What did he really do that was all that bad?

His job was to get 18 to 22 year old young men to do more than they believed they could do. He wasn't coaching your mom.

He did a commercial for Orange juice a few year ago, the director was stunned that Knight did it in one take, He asked Knight if he had any acting experience, Knight said what do you think coaching is.

I too grew up close to IU and watched Bobby Knight every game as a child and teen. I used to go to his summer basketball camps at IU. Also had the pleasure of him and his coaching staff visit my high school b-ball team to recruit. He was a Coach, he taught me and many young men what it was to be your best and to put your mind to something that you may not be comfortable in and achieve your dreams. Coach and mentor to many and even a father figure to some. And for some to not hear nor believe in what he was teaching us, well they hated him and he had no need for them.

Freudian slip? I think you meant Damon Bailey. Watched a lot of good Buckeye -Hoosier games during that time. Anyway, yeah that's really cool he did that for your Dad.

Most people who really know Bob say he has a gigantic heart. Also, one thing I admired about Bob was that he was hardest on his own son when he played at IU. He never wanted anyone to think he was giving his kid special treatment.

If more parents were like him these days maybe we wouldn't have all of these 25 year old spoiled brats running around thinking the world owes them everything.

I graduated from Bedford North Lawrence high school in 1992, was not on the State Champion basketball team with Damon but knew him well, played several pickup games with him when we were all younger. I was at the famous 8th grade game where coach Knight came to watch him. It was made famous in the book "Season on the Brink".

It's good to know that there are still people out there that respect coach Knight and all of the great things that he has done on and off the court.

Yep that's what I meant. Idk even know why I got that wrong. Damon Bailey was my first crush ever. I grew up obsessed with IU basketball. Now I don't even watch.

I don't think that there is any doubt that Knight does lots of great things and has had some fantastically positive effects on some people. That's obvious, and it's also what makes some of his behavior seem so bizarre......

In most states basketball is just basketball. In Indiana, it's everything. Most people here live, breath, eat basketball and football.
