Atlanta SX how many bikes get stolen this weekend?

Maybe it's just me but isn't there a bike / trailer with everything or stolen every year ?

Keep an eye on your stuff guy's , Hotel security works for the thieves.

And amateur day on Sunday too. Bikes get stolen out of the "secured" privateer pits, so I can imagine that the amateur bikes will be much easier to steal since people will be bringing them with them all weekend. I'm curious how many people will just leave their trailers in the decks and lots while they're watching the race Saturday night. It's going to be a bummer when you come back outside after the pro races to find all 3 bikes and gear from your trailer missing. It's a recipe for disaster IMO

Exactly, there will be a few who come on here and report there stuff was stolen from a hotel parking lot. This should be a sticky....DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SHIT IN A HOTEL PARKING LOT!!!! EVER!!!!

Definently lock them up mine got stolen out the back of my truck within an hour of being at a busy hotel during day light

The sad thing is that even going up to sandy spings is not enough to get out of the theft zone. Better than at the dome but not fabulous.

They seriously don't have a secure (actually secure) place for people to leave their gear?

This thread is killing me with the misinformation. I live in Atlanta and work in Midtown so I am down here quite a bit and you all are acting like Atlanta is some third world thieves paradise or even worse, Oakland.

1. The Georgia dome area has gotten progressively better over the last few years but is still not that great.

2. The Southwest side of the city is basically an area you should avoid in general. Basically the Northwest and most of the East Side of Atlanta is extremely safe. Is there crime? Sure, its a city. If you leave your bikes or trailers in a situation where they are vulnerable then some of the blame is on you.

3. Marta is alright but I have yet to ride it after dark. I would highly suggest Uber or Lyft, both service Atlanta.

Lastly, DemoDick I'm not sure when the last time was that you were here but you must be pretty sheltered up there in Cumming if you think you have to go out to Sandy Springs to feel safe.

If anyone is coming in town for the race I'll be at Monday Night Brewing tomorrow (Thursday) for a "tour". Check out the Vortex in Little Five Points for some 21 and over Burgers and good times or D.B.A. BBQ in Virginia-Higlands for some great food as well.

I get what you're saying, and this isn't directed specifically at you, but the last sentence in point #2 really, really bothers me every time I hear it. If something gets stolen, it's NEVER the FAULT of the owner, at all. Could you be more proactive in keeping stuff from getting stolen, sure. But ideally, you should be able to leave everything you own accessible and not have it stolen. Of course I realize that is not a reality. But that still falls on the criminal being fully at fault, not the owner. I've just never understood how anyone can just steal something. It's so common, but blows me away that people do it.

Sorry, rant over. That one just really bothers me every time.

No offense taken at all and I agree. I never can understand how someone feels like they have the right to take something from someone else regardless if it is the average Joe or a big corporation. No one owes you anything and they worked hard for that bike, laptop, car, profit, etc. But again if you advertise what you have (leave your laptop on your car seat) or don't take precautions then your own naivety is for sure to blame.

Wasnt there an instance where a privater had his stuff stolen, located it himself called the police and they refused to go to that part of town to help him get his stuff back.
Atlanta has historically been bad for theft of bikes from SX.
I think everyone is concerned with the added events this year that the thieves will have easy pickings.
The promoters really need to consider some sort of security.

Given the history of theft at the ATL SX, it is a legitimate question. Was it last year or the year before the "security" let the thieves in the fencing to grab bikes?

AJ Cantanzaro was the guy who had his trailer broken into, Cops ended up chasing said thief and recovered the bike for him. Besides a bald tire and broken clutch lever the bike was fine. 2011 some people had their bikes stolen from the Days INN Downtown which subsequently closed.

I have had some shady run ins in Oakland and overall felt less safe there but everyone has their own experiences and opinions.

I'll add in on the fun by saying that less than 4 bikes will be stolen
