Interesting. I know the Aluminum framed bikes are very rigged but it's that much of a difference with the steel frames?

I'd say so. Being a bicycle guy now the difference between a Ti or steel frame and a rigid carbon frame is light years.

Good insight. It would be interesting to see a fact based study (as opposed to a feels-like study) on what the strengths are of each frame design.

Aluminum frames caused Cooper's flat tire and Tomac's brake issues? Interesting. There'd have only been two KTM/Husky in the top five if not for aluminum frames causing those issues.

I'm sure that a SX pro can notice a big difference in the whoops between a steel and aluminium frame. Some would like the more flex that the steel frame gives you and some would like the rigidity that a aluminium frame would provide.

We saw Tomac go from the rigid factory clamps to X-Trig ROCS claps for more front end feel. Roczen went to stock clamps with the RCH Suzuki.

The flex in the steel would of kept Tomac upright and absorbed all the shock so that no sharp end he's could of gone through Webbs tyre.

What GPnewhouse said below. The steel frame flex can provide traction. The crash destroyed the front brake but if no crash then no broken front brake.

The garbage dirt these tracks are made with destroyed Coop's tire. Atleast some screened dirt could prevent some of these crashes and mechanicals.

I was actually being sarcastic but I guess you didn't catch that.

If steels frames were half as good as some of you guys make out then KTM should of won every title since 07. Racers race, some nights some racers do it better than others.

Ever share a track with monster trucks? Pieces of cars stuck in the dirt all over the place. Good times!

That must be why Plessinger is so fast in the whoops.....those steel frames....

Can the aluminium frame be skimmed to flex like a steel? And can the steel be re-enforced to be as rigid as an aluminium frame?

How long before the engine becomes a stressed member like a lot of other motorsport disciplines

Sarcasm or not, only one Japanese bike in the top 5. While the steel frame may be
an association vs causation but you can't deny they are regularly in the top positions.
Is the only reason we are fed the aluminum frames that they are cheaper to produce?
Probably yes.
Would your average rider or better than average rider (customer base) be faster because
of one or the other?
Probably not.

Right but look at who is riding the bikes with steel frames. That has everything to do with why those bikes end up at or near the front consistently.

I think it's pretty clear from the top five that the track really favored pointy, angular front fenders.
