Bike weight for A1

Anybody got the stats for bike weigh ins for A1? I'm surprised nobody has done an article comparing the bike weights from now back to RC's days.

I'm gonna guess around 220 for the 450's and 212 for the 250's.

I thought some 450's were coming in under 220 maybe I'm wrong. What's the rules state for 450s?

I've tried in the past to get a list from the AMA. They're not sharing.

If they don't share with public do they share with the other teams. Say does JGR know how much the RCH bikes weigh or do they just tell them they meet the standards? Just curious to see how that works.

Anybody got the stats for bike weigh ins for A1? I'm surprised nobody has done an article comparing the bike weights from now back to RC's days.
With the exception of Suzuki and Yamaha which are too fat to start with all the weights of the factory bikes are probably exactly the same as in RC's day because the weight limit hasnt really changed.

Drop the antiquated weight limit and let the progress continue!

A stock KTM weighs 220 dry. I have heard that KTM is under the limit so they add weight in strategic spots.
I've heard the same. Can you imagine putting 5-10 lbs in the lower part of the frame? That thing would turn on a dime.

When a KTM is coming stock from the factory almost at the limit it's time to adjust the limit down!

That's exactly what they do. Once you do all Ti bolts and change the exhaust, it's already close the being under. Let alone all the other factory/ lightened parts.

Dropping the limit is asinine. With the power 450's have, making them lighter than 220 makes for a sketchy proposition. Especially on the retail side of it. 220 seems to be a good number as it stands, you dont hear of anyone complaining about it at all.

KTM 450 is 222 with all fluids except gas like the AMA weighs them. A ti pipe would drop them to the limit or under. Most are running the cone valve forks that will add some weight back along with some guards and a glide plate. I'm sure that most KTMs are still right on the limit and the factory bikes could go even lighter if the rules allowed it.

Well, Reed was just complaining his factory Yamaha was too heavy. Maybe he doesn't count with you?

Kenny also complained his first season on the Zuki.

You can't stop progress. Plus, all these taco'd wheels and snapped frames we see every race are exciting. I counted 4 frames break at A1! (You're scared of things that don't happen)

A few in the low 220s...a few more in the mid to upper 220s and plenty of 230s...

In the 250s things are just a little lighter.

But, I could be wrong.

Note i said 220 seems to be doung fine. Those bikes are above 220. You wont see the jap bikes push for it and you wont see them at or under that 220 either for consumer safety reasons and production cost reasons. KTM, who knows what they will do. They change every year.

It's not really what they do. Modding the frame is illegal.

What they do is use OEM steel swing arm pivots and axles instead of Ti. Your boy Team Green might elaborate.

220 today....pfffftttt.

When Gary Jones was at White Bros. he built an early YZ400 or 426 down to 211 pounds when they were pushing two fifty stock. There was a hand built chromoly frame in the mix though. Pretty amazing what KTM has done on that big bike with e-start on the production level. Lighter than my 2001 YZ250F when it was new and stock. Probably lighter than some 250F's still today.

All they have to do is bolt weight where they want, no modding required. And since, I believe, "ballast" is illegal they can make the claim it is for anti vibration purposes...
