Did you see his interview in MXA's midweek report?
They asked him if would run a National if it was available. He said yes, but wasn't sure he would make any money.

Interesting answer?

I would imagine the first year start up costs would be significant and would take a while to recoup. A muti year commitment from DC et. al, would be paramount.

I think if Monster Mountain held a National MX round the pilgrimage to attend would be, dare I say, "epic". Probably along the lines of Woodstock.

I don't ever go on MXA's website, but I went over there and read that. Was that the entire interview or just part of it?

It's a great place for sure. But I don't think they have the infrastructure and enough room for pits and parking.

I have heard good things about that track and the owner. He takes pride in what he purchased and it shows!

There is only one way in and out. For a national you need to have 2 ways.

BTW. I love Monster. Go there 2 weekends a year.

For me, monster would be great to hold a national at. Montgomery isn't that far away. It has room for just as many factory rigs as muddy creek in my opinion. Although I haven't been in over a year i guarantee Tom would recognize me, remember my name and ask how myself and Travis have been. He is pure moto, a fantastic track owner, track pepper and lastly an Air Force Retired Vet (which don't count to some of you). I have never met a more deserving track owner for a national.

If you haven't been, go just once and then decide. I suspect you will agree.

One way in and out ? Are you talking about the gravel driveway to the track ? Last I checked you can turn right or left at end of gravel n get out of there .

Need 2 thresholds. Helps reduce the funnling affect of one pinch point.

I try to get to Monster Mountain about five times a year. When I've talked to the owner about a possible national he said the AMA required more infrastructure than they had and wanted them to sign a multi year deal. He didn't know if getting the national plus putting all the time and money into improving parking and whatnot would be profitable. I'm only 1.5 hours from Muddy Creek and I think that national should go to Monster.

Yes. The riders, mechanics, etc need a different entrance into the facility, or else they will get stuck in line with the rest of us. At least that is what my understanding was.

I still think it's weird the guy who runs/owns the biggest national at the best track on the best weekend of the year is in money troubles.

Been to monster dozens of times and must say it would be a great place for a national. The place has tons of space for parking etc. Some things would need to change with the enterance etc. But I have talked with Tom about this like others have and he said the same thing, they want multiple year deal (understandable) and alot of infrastructure improvements. The elevation changes there could be epic for the pro guys. Plus the track has great viewing spots on 90% of the track.

Now this is my opinion only but I feel if MX sports wants multi year deals from tracks, which is fine, I think they should help with some of the improvements to make the place up to their infrastructure requirements. Invest a bit in where you are promoting right, espicially with a multi year contract? I think it would show good faith between the 2 parties and also lessen the burden of a track owner that doesnt have deep pockets to pay for the investment all on his own. Espcicially for tracks that havent been on the circuit for 20+ years. Flame on.

I think you have Red Bud and Budds Creek mixed up.

Isn't it high point that only has one small two lane road to get to track ? They held a national there for years .

The most direct route from I-79 to the track is a narrow winding 2 lane road however there are 2 other routes to the highway that area longer drive but on better roads so the driving is faster. There are also 3 or 4 (or more) entrance/exits from the main track area with additional parking across the street.

Yup Tom is the best track owner I have ever met. Super nice guy, always checking with the riders asking how they're doing and what they think about the track. Every sat morning he has the track worked and ready like they're about to host a qualifier that day. If you have never been there I suggest getting there extra early and being one of the first bike on the track, you wont believe how much fun it is to ride that track when it is fresh. Then as the day goes on the corners start forming some awesome ruts and all the jump faces stay perfect! Fun track, safe jumps, high speed sections, perfect dirt, and awesome elevation. As far as a national is concerned I guarantee this place would have the highest attendance given many training facilities there are in the south, and all the fans from Florida that don't want to drive all the way to Tennessee for Muddy Creek.

By the way Steve, I hope you and Travis are doing well!
