Lets hope he didn't send the parts to 718 for a rustoleum "DX" paint job. Odds are if he did the parts are long gone.

You're just bitter because you're building a "replica" LOL

I bet ole 718 had a boner thinking about getting his hands on this poor guys hrc parts. Genuine works parts would probably buy a lot of oxycontin. If someone were so inclined.

Oops, I reckon.

Some more background information: after finding a lot of the factory engine parts I was offered some 2000-2001 chassis bits.... You can probably imagine that "building a factory engine" turned real quick in "building a factory bike". Since most parts where 2000-2001 I chose to build a 2001 bike. I found some specific parts used on the Japanese bikes back in the day and I liked the look of one in particular: Yoshitaka Atsutas All Japan Championship winning 2001 RC250M.

The journey so far can be read on my website. Any new updates will be posted both on my website and in this topic. Admins: maybe we should transfer this topic to Bike Builds.

I want a set of those hubs! The pj is a almost as good in my opinion. They pretty much use the same jetting specs. The only thing I didn't like on the Pj is that the idle is the choke knob. It was tough to get the the bike idling and crisp at the same time.

I found a set of 2000/2001 period correct Factory Showa suspension this summer. The forks have 51mm inner tubes and these are the exact type Yoshi was running in 2000 and 2001. As I didn't have a decent set of triple clamps I had to reanodize the ones that came with the forks as they were more pink than red... After the ti steering stem was pressed in again I could finally mount them ?.

This is definitely preserving a piece of Honda motocross history and it is one of the last works bikes before the aftermarket was able to provide all the trick parts that the average Joe can buy to make thier own ride look like a factory bike like you can today. Therefore there are a lot of rare parts that are very hard to find as this model was only raced for 2 years instead of the usual 3-5 years that it takes for Honda to make a full model change. It is amazing you were able to find all these HRC parts and bring them togther for this very special build.

So here is a little big update! Bike is finally on it's feet, applied most of the original (!) decals, modified the swingarm to take the 2002+ rear brake setup and found a period correct Dunlop rear tire. Now need to make extra vents in the back of the sidepanels and order a seatcover and numberplate decalset. Also need to order a chain and Renthal rear sprocket.

Furthermore I have a project going on replicating the 97-01 titanium footpegs. Had them 3D scanned and will soon start production. If someone is interested let me know. They come with 00-01 footpeg brackets.

Yes correct! It's an 18" rear wheel and 20" inch front wheel, like the ran more often in these years. The rims actually come from the Pamo Honda Team, original DID team issue rims Cool

Would you share how you modified the swing arm to fit the 02 rear brake setup. I’m interested to do a similar thing to my 95 CR250, not sure if it’s possible or not. Thanks
