rmz 450 2008 problem

Edited Date/Time 12/30/2013 12:46pm
hello, i have a 2008 rmz 450 and i am having a problem with it,

bike starts up but only runs for 6 seconds and turns itself off, i have fitted a new stator and htc lead and coil i was told by a mechanic that this was the problem, but after i had fitted these new parts the problem still existed, thinking it could this be a wiring problem or senor, i have checked the roll over sensor just and it is fine any suggestion, thanks for your time

i would be happy enough to buy a wiring harness for this model if anyone has one on this site as there is none anywhere for 2008-2013 fuel injected bike i hope use can help many thanks.

Not entirely confident on what your issue is, but check all of the connectors in the air box and the back of the cylinder for corrosion. Get some dialectic grease and just clean all your connections and lube them up. It may be shorting and tripping your EFI system. Also check the head of the sensors as well, they may be a build up of dirt and filter oil on your air sensor (in the air box) that is choking the bike out

Are sure it is electrical? You might check to see if the fuel pump filter is blocked/clogged. What has happened from when it ran with no problems to now with problems? Has it been sitting long? You might try to disconnecting the kill button.

I agree it seem to be a fuel low issue. Can be caused by dirty vent tubes too.

suzuki sell a diagnostic light that plugs into the wiring under the front plate you run , or kick the bike over and it flashes the codes that are listed in the back of your manuel, i bought one i think it was 35 dollars you should start with that seems like you been throwing parts at it

thanks for all the replies, i will answer all your questions in this reply, after a days riding this accrued the next day when i went to start my bike, i have checked the fuel filter and is not blocked, i assume if it was a low fuel problem the bike would start to die out but this dosent happen. it starts perfectly and runs for 6 second and it is a sudden stop as if a break in a wire or sensor i think this because normally bikes with ignition switch u turn once and the cdi checks for problems before starting, my rmz hasnt got this and im thinking when the bike starts the cdi does a check but if there is a problem the cdi will turn of the bike, i will check the wires below the tanks tomorrow, my loom has a lot of insulting tape around it and looks like someone was woring on the harness, it would just be easier if anyone on this site new of any loom from 2008-2013 are forsale, i appreciate all the reply thanks

Call Goose, I think Dungey had the same problem once in 2011. Whistling
Just kidding, hope you get it figured out. I hate intermittent electrical issues.

loosening the gas cap takes the possibility of a clogged cap and hose out of the equation.

1st thing you need to do is buy a service manual.

if you want to check to see if the injector is spraying pull the airbox off, open the throttle butterfly and have someone kick the bike over for you. You will see if it is or not.

I had the same problem on mine I was running a Yoshimura pim2. I took it off and went back to the stock system and it fired right up. Upon looking at some of the connecters I noticed some of the pins backing out of the plastic holders.

I know the thread is old but I didn't see the solution posted. Here is the answer: Suzuki has a TO sensor either on the bottom of the tank in the rubber boot or mounted on the frame in front of the valve cover (depending on year). TO stands for Tip Over. The bike is designed to stall if on its side in a crash. The reason 20 seconds is so you can Corner. Some models have a ball inside that moves and if you bend it they need to be bent back. Others have s sensor and need to be mounted in the right orientation.
