Well after reading this thread I am even more excited to get MXGP 2 for Christmas! Sick of booting up my 360 to play mx vs atv supercross.
I purchased a new Xbox one s a few months back to play the SX encore or whatever but happened to pick up MXGP 2 used for half the price so I tried that first, still haven't bought SX encore. MXGP 2 is way better than I expected, just need to figure out how to control the bike, it takes a while to get fast through corners and what not. I still haven't figured out how to keep the front wheel low over jumps unless scrubbing.

i play mx sim every night. usually the people bitching about wanting an mx game all the time are the ones that try mx sim for 30 seconds, suck at it and never play it again or try to figure out how to get better at it.

mx sim on the outside is a very bland simple arcade game....but if you commit to it, get involved with the forums, do a ton of reading. you will be occupied for hours getting your bikes/skins/tracks setup. Once setup, It becomes very addicting. most realistic physics and gyro effects that mimic real life situations. My only bitch is small contact in game usually ends up in yard sales.

the big draw is the current track support....which lately has been monetized. I used to download the current track, race my ghost for hours trying to beat its time then watch the race. Now since they are charging for the seasons/track downloads. not so much.
I've got a real motorcycle for that sort of thing....

Console?
No PC, OSX, and Linux only. We're working out of our own pockets so we don't have to funds to release on console. We're looking into it down the road though. Plus, with all the user created content it would be hard to push to console at launch.

Reflex had its flaws, specifically the AI. Any contact with them and your down... that or they take you out for no reason

I liked supercross AI. I actually found myself having to take insides to get around them or block pass them without cart wheeling!

But the facts that you can clutch boost seat bounce quads makes it lame... just tone that down FFS,

Most people that play any game other than reflex judge it after 10 min without spending time or upgrading the bike.. just the way it will always be

Since we're on the subject, doesn anyone know how to make MX vs ATV Supercross always include Roczen and Stewart in the Championships? It's boring otherwise and it gets old having to restart the series until they show up.

A blurb I found from the found of LCQ. http://lcqstudios.com

"Right now our main focus is on our current project, not yet named, which is a 3D motocross game. With this game we want to bridge the gap between arcade and simulation video games. We have taken key arcade style gameplay features from the very popular Mx vs Atv series as well as deep customization from simulations such as Mx Simulator and Mx-Bikes. "

This sounds exactly like what you and I want.

That unity thread and screens are very old and outdated. We are beginning to post more screenshots and content on the site but for now check this post out https://lcqstudios.com/helmet-3d-assets/ . More in-game screenshots and videos will be posted soon as our modelers and environment artists are working extremely hard to make the game look great.

What kind of resources are you working with? You and a couple guys developing this as a hobby? Are you going to look for funding or work with a publisher?

Why start your own physics engine? Have you looked into Unreal Engine? That is a link to a specific project that seems to translate.

I really think your time would be better spent with a framework that already exists then modify from there vs reinventing the wheel. You'll have an entire community of support for the development. You'll be able to focus on what you really want to do with the game.

Maybe you already are. Here is an applicable videos:

I looked at the Helmet Assets already. Loving the detail, you can see the holes in the fabric of the shell, super detailed.

The mud/dirt effects are spot on.

To lcq studios. Please program the AI. That is very important. A lot of players don't play online, myself included.

Prefer consoles but excited to see what you guys have going. Best of luck!

Reflex with mods on the PC is still my go to MX game. MXsim is just a little too hardcore for me. I love how after all this time people are still pumping out tracks for reflex, really good one.

@tprice07 We are using Unity. We have 6 guys from the MX Simulator community and 1 that we have brought on from outside. We're doing this as a hobby kind of, but it's turned into something a little greater I would say. We havent looked for funding yet be we have been researching it. We will be completely unattached to a publisher hence 'indie studio'.

@flatout111 AI will be in the game dont worry. A lot of different 'modes' will be centered around racing the AI. I know it sucks for us not to release on console but it just costs so much money and extra time for us right now. Thanks!

Awesome, can't wait to see what you guys come out with. Screw consoles, PC is so much better.

Will it be as hard as MX Sim?

No definitely not. We want there to be a little more of learning curve compared to an arcade racer, but we dont want it to be as steep as sim.

Totally. Chris is the man. Rainbow was dealt a big blow when he didn't join the new team but stoked he his happy with his new job at Race Tech.

MX45(Mike),

Any updates, winks, nods, hints at what is going on with Rainbow right now? Working on next full game, hopefully. I realize you can't say much but never hurts to give us a little something to keep us interested. Supercross/Encore wasn't mine nor this community's cup of tea at all (based on comments and the best MX game poll on Vital). Curious what is next and what direction the team moves in.

Anyway, regardless...hope you're doing well. Mike is also one talented dude and super cool cat as well so hope life is good, dude.

The AMA skins for MXGP2 on PC look good.

As long as the game is not on rails like MXGP and you get to actually control your bike and rider in a semi-fluid fashion, i'm in. It doesn't matter how good the game looks or how deep the career mode is, pre-made whips are an absolute deal breaker to A LOT of people. This is key.

Either way, i'm interested to see how this one turns out. Good luck to ya.
