HI guys,

My new 2017 KTM 450 SXF locked up at the track ttoday with less than 2 hours on the hour meter. It felt like something in the engine just "let go" and it happened while under power, thank God it wasn't on the face of a jump....I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what was your experience like with KTM?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I think I would contact the dealer you purchased it from as KTM is good about making good on these things.

your wondering if anyone else has ever had an engine lock up? the answer is for sure, it happens. What exactly do you need help with? your dealers phone number? They should be able to help you.

Do a search on www.ktmtalk.com/. There might be some answers to your question already posted there.

I will be calling the dealer in the morning. But was just anxious to hear if any of you have heard of similar things. I imported this bike from the US, I live in Barbados and while there is a motocross scene here, there is no official KTM dealer and hence why I import my bikes from dealerships in Florida....I'm concerned about the issue because after import duties this bike costed me US$15K!

I've been riding and racing motocross for over 23 years, this is also my 4th KTM, and I buy ALL of my bikes new. I've never had a NEW bike do this, so i was just curious if anyone else has heard of similar situations with this model.

I'll let you all know what the dealer says tomorrow.

Thanks

Sometimes, it's just better not to hit submit.

Had you just changed the oil? I saw a KTM filter collapse and oil starve the engine..

Not sure when you bought it but my 2016 fe came with a 30 day warranty. Dont know if it applies to the regular models or not, however KTM seems to be a pretty stand up company. I have no doubts they'll take care of you.

Shoe on the rocker arm probably broke off. Is it knocking really loud now? Lots of metal on the drain bolt magnet? Happened to my 17 450 at an hour, but bike is awesome now! Ktm and my dealer took care of the issue.

TO be honest, from the first time I rode it at the track I thought it sounded funny but I told myself theres no way a new bike (especially KTM) could have an issue like this so early so I continued to break it in, and then boom.

Up until then though, the bike was AMAZING, engine was superb, handling was epic.

Glad to hear that KTM took care of your issue, it sounds like I might have the same problem. Will let you know what the dealer says tomorrow.

Since you bought it in the US, you should have 30 days from date of purchase. This says 2016 but I think they just haven;t updated their website yet.

From the 30 minute mark my friends were saying something sounds odd..But i was in denial with my new bike so i contnued to ride thinking that I've had Kawis and other brands and even other KTMS that sounded "odd" and never had issues..

Calling Palmetto Motorsports now.

No buddy but I was riding it easy...I;ve been doibng this for over 23 years and am fast A international rider( Ask Paul Lindsay) and I have never had this issue with one of my bikes.....after break in I always change oil...and in fact the manual states that it takes 3 hours,.....this bike only lasted 1.9 hours...never went past 1/2 throttle..!!!!

I'm the kind of guy that changes my oil every ride....I also have the scott stainless steel filter ready to go before the bike even got here on the plane......this is not my first rodeo by any means, iujm/;1 means and I am pissed!

This bike sounded a little raspy, almost like the cam tensioner was loose but our crew said just cotinue to break it in. theres no way anything could be wrong so early..e

My '16 Husky 501 FEs's exhaust valves were outta spec after only ~10 hours. The mechanic said it was highly unusual and it was probably delivered that way from the factory.

I changed my break-in oil at 2 hours on my 2017 also with no problems. I am at 14.6 hours now and so far so good. Let us know what you find out.

The guys at Palmetto Motorsports are solid. You should be in good hands. They worked with me on a Supermoto 950 engine implosion and got it all covered. Being that a you're not local you're bound to be out some cash with the shipping of everything back and forth. But that goes with the territory when you live out of country with no dealer network.

Hopefully Todd can get you set straight.

I realize this sucks but take it to your local dealer. It's still covered under warranty which is what makes KTM so awesome. You could have done that in a race and they'd still cover it.

If you're dealer gives you problems, go to another dealer and call customer service in your country (Not sure who you'd deal with in Barbados) and let them know you're having issues with the dealer.

Be patient and nice and it will go a long way.

Keep us posted.

sometimes its better to make a phone call before putting up threads that can put a black eye on a manufacture or company. Use your head ML

Its ok to have thread after thread on "x brand" having issues or engines failing. God forbid someone starts a thread about KTM having the same issues. People might find out they aren't made from Zues's golden rod and have issues just like the others

Saw a 2016 ktm 250f 10 hours with a rod through the front case. Ktm covered it. Good company.

It's a 6 month warranty on ktm and husky in the U.K. Seems strange you get 30 days across the pond
