$389 for forks is the lowest I've seen. Anyone know of any place offering it for lower?

Anyone know what the coefficient of friction is on this? I always wondered why know one in moto does it on the lowers. Is dlc or TiNi that much cheaper, or better? fox and marzocci do it on the friction surfaces of their mtb suspension.

Hasn't the thinking been shifting towards questioning whether it actually works or not? Like from credible sources that would know?

Moto stanchions are steel whereas your 40's are aluminum. DLC doesn't stick to aluminum very well at all, same goes for kachima and steel(I think).

I couldn't not tell you which coating is "better", I think its pretty hard for anyone to objectively measure which is actually superior, stock chrome finish is pretty damn good.

I am a little cheaper than that, but I'm based in Sweden.

Shipping it to Sweden just to ship it to Japan to have Kashima do it?

Kashima is actually a type of anodizing, so it will simply not work on steel.

That's what I meant.
For Scandinavians, I could probably do a little (nothing much) better on the pricing. (And cheaper shipping to me)

For Americans? Nope. Shipping cost is eating that up.

Not trying to step on any toes here.

Black Diamond is by far the cheapest to date, I have 2 sets done by SDI and it was in the $450 range, A 13.5 KTM Dungey and my sons KTM 65, The cost is one thing but the turn around is the main factor if its the only set you have plan on being down for a month.

I jumped on my deal cause SDI was sending a big shipment and wanted in to cut costs? a few years prior it was $7-900, it seems to be dropping as the years go by but not sure how much lower it can go. All these guys hype up they have have the deal but remember theres only one place in Japan that does it, and everyone has to go thru them.

its 2 weeks turnaround once its in Japan so start adding days or weeks to wherever you are or who your dealing with, the trick is to find a guy like Black Diamond and see how his orders look and see if coordinated right you will be the least amount of time off the bike, (extra set or extra bike will be best alternative) also dealing with a volume dealer in kashima could benefit cause they have extra sets done and then its just an exchange program? if your anal and only want your actual tubes done plan on a month or more, of course my guy promised me 2 weeks and ended up 5 so i was a lil mislead but in the end these things are buttery smooth! id do again in a heart beat, works best with DLC leg treatment for best results.

My opinion for what its worth..

I noticed a few months ago the cycra plate on my yz was wearing through the fork anodizing and might be wearing the fork tube down a bit. I put some velcro on the plate to keep it from getting worse but was wondering if they could be refinished or if it would be an issue? Anyone experience the same with the cycra plates?

One thing about Kashima coating on the forks is that it is a very brittle coating, and if you don't protect it, it will flake off in small chunks every time a small pebble hits it. It will also flake off where the fork flexes at the bottom of the lower triple clamp.

I have my forks completely covered in clear vinyl. Otherwise, they will look like crap quickly if you ride on tracks with a lot of small rocks.

Isn't there an American Licensee that does the process here?

Same here. I put clear vinyl where the plate touches the forks.

You would think so, but that's not the case. Unfortunately the fork legs have to be done in Japan.

What thickness do you have them do the coating?

BD does that price include shipping to Japan and return shipping to me?

That's a good deal. My Kashima is pretty beat up from rock chips. I've been thinking about getting my forks redone but I don't have an extra set.

Side note: my cycra front number plate does rub the forks. My PC fork stickers are high enough to protect the tubes. So it just wears the vinyl.

It varies based on the alloy or material but it is typically around 20 microns

Shipping to Japan is included but you have to pay shipping back to you (typically around $20-$25)
