There's a generational and culture gap going on here.

It's pretty sad,

173 countries have collectively agreed this is a real issue and are working towards solutions.

That's 173 high level political leaders who have probably accomplished and learned much more in life than most asshats who waste all their time posting here to fill their time. Including myself.

reality is a motherfucker, I know a lot of you can't handle it or accept it. thats given by an entire culture that clings to mindless / fictional entertainment as their way of escaping the drone of daily life, i.e. americana.

China is capitalizing on, this not only are they working to help the problem they're industrializing and becoming a major producer of hydro, solar and wind harvesting systems.

ONLY if Americans were smart enough we could bolster our economy and create jobs by industrializing in this manner,

but no, Too fucking dumb for our own good

@midwest: you stated: " Within the next 20 years people WILL be displaced by sea level rise, not only abroad but in our own country. That was the most alarming thing to me. It's happening here..."

Al gore was yapping about this in 2003. It's now 2016 and Florida isnt under water, the North Pole still has ice....add numerous other predictions he's made that haven't come true to this list...

They keep repackaging the same shit sandwich and feeding it to each generation in increments of 15-20 years. Hell theyre doin it faster now. About every 4 years. (Why 4 years?) because a bachelor degree takes 4 years of indoctrination. 4 years of lib policy injection in all the rubrics of 130 credit hours or more. Kids believe all this. I believed gore too, beat the drum for insignificant truth. But then once i opened eyes I realized it's all a scam....a scam. Just like college. Scam scam scam. Everything green LOVES CO2. And converts it to oxygen. I wish the big government would Plant more trees, instead they want to cut more down and print paper money. Sequester the greenhouse gases not the taxpayers paper money!!!!
Entire neighborhoods in florida experience what they call sunny day flooding, I have a friend who lives down there and has had her home's value rapidly decrease because of this.

Did you even watch the documentary? at all?

Once again, this is an issue of accepting Reality. What's currently happening in the world around us.

This is the most progressive post in this forum.

I honestly think if there is a carbon footprint being made by humankind, then we are all far too fcked to do anything about it by now without wiping out the population and metropolises and starting from scratch. Polluting the atmosphere, population increase, non-renewable resources, there's a lot more to this climate change than just buying an Alta and not watering the tracks. It's easy to say we can all pitch in to do something about the problem and bring a "change" when we are typing on a keyboard of a computer that is made from materials produced in a factory creating pollution somewhere away from our comfortable lives...

If something is going to happen it will only happen with a radical change to the status quo and society/life as WE know it. I'm pretty sure the tribes in the amazon already had this figured out way before it was an issue. WE however, will never change

Keep your 2 strokes, they smell good.

I feel global warming is happening. I also feel it is cyclical. That said, I also feel we are speeding up the process thanks to the thermal age over the last 100 years.

Anyone who doesn't believe I.C.E. vehicles cause problems to our health or environment I challenge you to sit in a garage with the door shut for a couple of hours and let me know how that works out. I'm joking... don't actually do it but we all know what happens. I never understand how people are so naive to not believe we get small but lethal injections of this everyday while we drive. This and I hate big oil and it's lack of energy renewability are my two main reasons to support electric vehicles and solar panels for home energy.
Running the car with the door closed will result in carbon monoxide poisoning . Of course the carbon dioxide emitted would do nothing because it's harmless. Transitioning to EVs, solar, etc and more efficient end power loads for the reason of lessening pollution, tearing down mountains for coal, oil spills, etc of course is a good idea.

Making outrages and unproven claims about global warming and regulating co2 by setting up these credit exchange markets that wI'll be manipulated and exploited and financially benefit the people that are responsible for pushing the legislation to set them up is not a good idea and won't change anything.

In 1968 we moved to SoCal just east of LA. The smog was so bad it burned your eyes and lungs and made you sick. I don't know all the details but the govt. Passed clean air legislation that regulated car emissions and I guess industrial emissions. The positive results were undeniable and happened quickly. As far as I understand there was not major impact to the economy and business. It was successful govt regulation to a problem.

200 billion was set aside in the 08 stimulus for green energy investment and the fight against global warming. From what I have read the majority of this money was handed out to we'll connected people including AL Gore and others who enriched themselves, much more than they did anything for the environment. Much of it was just thrown against the wall in hopes something would stick. Of course we never got any kind of accounting of what was spent as promised. At the end of the day that stimulus was 800 billion of govt. Malinvestment.

Taking care of the environment is good. Handing over tax payer money to the govt because they need it to control global temperatures by regulating CO2. Bad idea in my opinion.

It was free on youtube yesterday for one day. The movie is pretty damn convincing. He does get a little bit too hyperbolic here and there. Leo did point out this his own carbon footprint is bigger than most people's.
Some of these scientists are pretty damn convincing too. Put it this way, I am not buying any oceanfront property.

Don't focus on the negative Newmann. I haven't seen anyone say stop using oil for plastics etc. at this point because we don't have a better option yet. The point is how do we ween ourself off burning 90 million gallons of gasoline a day? How do we stop burning coal, natural gas or uranium for our energy? These are the problems we can fix short term that will undebatably make the world a healthier and better place.

Leo is one of the best "pretenders (acting)" in the world. What makes a good "pretender"? Being highly effective at making people believe the unbelievable. He gets paid big bucks for his deception prowess. Quite the dichotomy.

The climate is going to do whatever its going to do...humans are along for the ride, not controlling it.

Ice Ages have started and ended long before humans were here...and there will be another one, that could very well-and likely will-wipe out the human race. No amount of government regulation, or taxes will prevent it.

We should take care of the planet for the same reason we take care of our yards...so we can enjoy where we live...not because we are so arrogant as to believe we can "save the planet" (this is real life, not a frikkin' Hollywood movie).

"A common misunderstanding of the climate system characterizes it like a pendulum. The planet will warm up to "cancel out" a previous period of cooling, spurred by some internal equilibrium. This view of the climate is incorrect. Internal variability will move energy between the ocean and the atmosphere, causing short-term warming and cooling of the surface in events such as El Nino and La Nina, and longer-term changes when similar cycles operate on decadal scales. However, internal forces do not cause climate change. Appreciable changes in climate are the result of changes in the energy balance of the Earth, which requires "external" forcings, such as changes in solar output, albedo, and atmospheric greenhouse gases. These forcings can be cyclical, as they are in the ice ages, but they can come in different shapes entirely.

For this reason, "it's just a natural cycle" is a bit of a cop-out argument. The Earth doesn't warm up because it feels like it. It warms up because something forces it to. Scientists keep track of natural forcings, but the observed warming of the planet over the second half of the 20th century can only be explained by adding in anthropogenic radiative forcings, namely increases in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide.

Of course, it's always possible that some natural cycle exists, unknown to scientists and their instruments, that is currently causing the planet to warm. There's always a chance that we could be totally wrong. This omnipresent fact of science is called irreducible uncertainty, because it can never be entirely eliminated. However, it's very unlikely that such a cycle exists."

Changes in solar output yes that would be my guess. According to IPCC and NOAA info planet has been warming for about 400 years since the last very cold period. Total temp increase over 400 years is about 1.5 deg C. Scientists don't bother to explain how the first 300 years of that warming happened without man made CO2. In the last 120 years temps have gone up and down within the range of about .7 deg to 1 deg C. Basically global average temp has been steady at about 58 deg. give or take about 3/4 of a degree for over a hundred years. Not really anything to run around with your hair on fire about I don't think.

What about the CO2. Greenhouse gasses make up about 1% of atmospheric gas. 95% of that 1% is water vapor. 3.6% of that 1% is CO2. And 3% of that 3.6% of that 1% is man made CO2. about 15ppm. Assuming all the info and readings are legit CO2 has risen from about 280ppm to almost 400ppm in last 100 years or so and that's the smoking gun they say. The argument is that the 3% man made CO2 is extra and has no place to go the oceans, plants and other sinks wont absorb it so it is accumulating. All the other CO2 finds somewhere to go but not the man made stuff. This hasn't been proved out but its really the only argument left because temps are no longer increasing and none of the models by the so called experts have been reliable. The other argument is that temps don't rise based on CO2 increases but CO2 is released mostly from the ocean from higher temps which seems to make more sense.

Anyway. Why the condemnation of CO2. CO2 is harmless that's why people add it to green houses at levels of 1000ppm or more because plants thrive on higher levels. Why not move to cleaner energy based on eliminating real pollution from coal, and gas like Mercury, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and other heavy metals. What about the electronics industry building billions of circuit boards there is some major pollution.

Im all for being good stewards of the planet. But going after CO2 with cap and trade and using global warming as the reason isn't going to work.
And thank you for posting all that...very well said and very good post.

I clean up after myself pretty well and don't try to go out of my way to be a detriment to the environment whether at home or work. At the track or at the beach, my area is always cleaner when I leave than when I arrived. I have no problem with making things better, but shifting it from our shores to the shores of some third world shithole doesn't solve anything, just makes the problem worse. 20 trillion dollars in debt here and nothing has changed except more people with their hands out for free shit and more jobs moved out of the country. Negative? You betcha, and with good reason. F' Leo. And especially f' Al Gore. Did I mention Jeff Corwin earlier? F' him too. Laughing

In those 173 countries where you speak off, 1 off them is Belgium.
I dont know how to explain this but there r literally multiple bigger forests in the state of Texas than Belgium is in size and produce healthy oxygen way way way more than Belgium ever will
The majority of the cars here (EUROPE) ride on DIESEL fuel and is very bad for the global warming.
The majority of the European countries are this way and we don't have enough forests to maintain a sufficient amount of healthy oxygen in the air. On certain summer days ( when the amount of fine pollution exceeds a certain value ) our roads get new speed limits so the cars don't put out too much smoke to help get back into the save zone of the so called fine pollution value they have set up to maintain.

In order to help the earth they need to help the people first.
There are more people that have to ride very old cars that are literally smoke machine's because they can't afford a newer/healthier car.
In Belgium the bigger cities do not accept cars older than 10 years old anymore since 2015.

Can you imagine that something like that would be in the USA?

We can never ever go back to a healthier world unless we decide to help the people first.
people with a job will buy a newer car from the moment our governments stops stealing money from the people.

There are some things totally wrong with this world, for example Property taxes, People work there asses of in order to afford there "own" home. Once we have saved an sufficient amount of money we purchase a house and the majority of the people pay there home's mortgage spread over multiple years, yet when you have payed your total amount for that home and land you officially own outright that piece of property you still have to pay property TAXES why? Because the government does absolutely nothing on your land and will never invest in that land you've been maintaining properly. The only thing they do is just steal money out of your pocket where you have worked for and already pay income taxes from. Property TAX is something that stands for ( You have payed an bunch of money to own a piece of land on this Planet ) But when we " the government " one day decide to show up at your house and decide for some bullshit reason you need to leave the land for a highway for example you need to go you do not own shit and never will.
That money form property tax is used as a form of leverage because you pay the government every year rent for that piece of land and is used to pay for the assholes that have a chair in the government. And act like they care about you and the only thing they really want is more money out of your pocket and more in their's.

You're spot on, changing peoples lifestyles will change how we effect the world around us. It's all symbiotic.

Here we have people who can't handle let alone accept reality, it's their cultural upbringing, influence from biased major media and often just a personal shortcoming in intellect and understanding, you'll see it primarily in the south and south east of our nation, as these people actually live about a decade behind the times culturally. It's pretty sad,

if we establish tax breaks for corporations, not higher taxes, they will go green. If we create a labor industry based on green expansion not only will we create more jobs, and enable people to buy into cleaner energy and modes of transportation but we will also spur on new economic activity. It's a win win, I don't know how anybody doesn't understand this.

But then again, half our nation is still racist, misogynistic, and well behind the curve or progressive, positive though.

They can't help it, it's the way they were raised, and all they know is all they know. Wink

Wink
That has to be the biggest bullshit post to date. A lot of us have been educated far beyond what you perceive. Curiostiy for some, pause for question for some, and in your case, blindly following the trend. You have made it completely obvious you have no idea what you are talking about, only what you have been told.

[b]influence from biased major media and often just a personal shortcoming in intellect and understanding,

Were you aware of the irony when you typed that ?

Holy crap man. You just called half the people in the country racist misogynists. And everyone from the south stupid.
I hope that's not the " progressive positive thought" you were referring to.

What the hell is wrong with these kids nowadays.

Hilarious.

There's a few things that exist in this world.

1. Opinions.
2. Perspectives.
3. Facts
4. Reality.

Only 2 of those really matter.

Yet you come here and speak of all the money you make washing and detailing everybody's high end cars, boats and RV's with lots of water, electricity and chemicals. All of that is entirely unnecessary. Tell me more about this gap you speak of?
