Greetings-
Have made up my mind that I'll be springing for a new bike soon. Less time than ever to work on and repair my older bikes. And after riding a buddy's 2017 KTM 250SX I can say that it basically does everything better than my primary bike (2005 Honda CR250 - power, suspension, brakes, handling, etc.).
Now, has anybody ridden BOTH a 2017 KTM 250SX and a 2017 Husqvarna TC250? In my mind, the KTM is the safe bet since I've ridden one, but I sure like the styling of Husky. I have seen the initial reviews that say they are different but have taken them with a grain of salt. Want to see if there is any real-world feedback on them.

Personally in your situation coming off a 2005, I think either bike is going to blow your mind. Your talking 12 years of motorcycle technology from your Honda. I'd shop based on price and local dealer availability.
Also forgot to mention the lack of vibration on my buddy's KTM. The vibration of the older 250SX is what kept me from buying one after demo-ing them.
I've read the MXA reviews and they do seem to like the Husky more.

I took mine to local track couple weeks ago and there was a mint 07 CR250, and a tricked out 2012 YZ250. We traded and each was impressed and where doing all the obstacles first lap. I rode the YZ and it felt heavy,,even though it was loaded with titanium pieces. Afterwards I learned the YZ owner had 12,000 invested in that bike..he seemed a little bummed that I had about 5Gs less in my 17 model and it was as fast/faster and lighter. It is even faster now with a red powervavle spring in there.
I have 5 hours now on it,,and love it so far. Haven't had the jetting troubles some complain about..went 460 on main and 40/1 premium. The bike is definitely faster than me,,and as light feeling as some 125s. I did shop the KYM model,,and they are equally nice,,but there are distinct differences in components like wheels,controls,subframe. Go with one you get best deal, but check out Lojaks online, maybe worth ordering there like I did.

I did spend a full day riding my buddy's 2017 KTM 250SX. It's significantly better than my old bike in every area. Already sold my 2005 Honda CR250 and now need to move my 2008 Honda CRF450. Been a real pain in the ass trying to sell that one.
I'm going to sell all of my current bikes to finance it (I figure its easier to keep 1 new bike running and racing than it is to have 4 project bikes I wish I had no budget on). I've got a 2013 YZ450F and I loved it because it was my first new bike and my first 450 but if i have to be honest with myself. Its a pain to ride fast. fun bike but i don't enjoy riding it fast. I can't say its the bikes fault i think maybe its too much bike for me and my skill level at the moment. I have way more fun on my 09 RM125 than i ever did on the 450, I've always liked 250 2T's and here in Australia you can race them in the lites class against 250F's, hard to say which has the advantage but it mostly comes down to the rider but i can assure you its negligible compared to the disadvantage you would have racing a 250 2T against 450's.
I just read the June issue of Dirt Bike magazine and there was a 3 way shoot out, YZ250 vs TC250 vs 250SX.
verdict ~ Husky: Best MX bike because of smoother/broader power output thanks to different airbox.
~ YZ250: Best weekend warrior bike thanks to less peak power and less power hit.
There are many threads on Vital on how to get the engine/jetting/suspension setup well too.
