Do you find these just random shopping?

It's not over priced if someone is willing to pay for it.

Is it really that overpriced? You can pick up early 80s 250s pretty cheap but the open bikes usually command high dollar. Looks to be in pretty good shape and all there.

That would have at least $7000 on it in oz

Depends on what you want to do with it. Not over priced at all if that's what you're looking for. I'd love to ride that son of a bitch.

Oldie but goodie....the value is in the desire to own it....somebody will have either owned one way back and wished they still had it or....always wanted one......when u have the extra money laying around, everybody is guilty of paying more for something......i laugh all the time at some prices........it looks good, Now the bikes that are needing alot of work, and people trying to get top dollar.....then its like WTF?......

Actually I checked it out in person. It does need a lot of work. Leaking a lot of oil around countershaft sprocket and side panel melted pretty bad. Overall looks way better in pics than it does up close.

I clicked on this thread expecting a real CL Gem. In need of a 10 dollar clutch cable. Instead I saw a pretty decent bike.

why would you check something out if you felt it was overpriced? ~then starting a thread about it...

I first saw bike for sale in parking lot and stopped to check it out. Maybe shouldn't have said overpriced, but in my area of the country it seemed a little steep for a bike needing the amount of work it does to make it rideable/raceable. I posted about it because I know a lot of people enjoy seeing old 2stroke open bikes. After reading everyone's posts I find it fascinating the value this bike has. Thanks for all the opinions.

And a sprocket seal? that takes like 15 minutes to change.

That bike in the picture, in the picture, would be a hell of a buy for $4000. And if it only needed a sprocket seal and a side panel, that would be an ever bigger steal.

Sure this is not a fishing post

My friends had both an 83 480 and 84 500 (both of which we hillclimbed the shit out of). Never did many laps on either one, only pointed em up hills 250's couldn't make it to the halfway point on. Smile

I never did get to ride one of the 82 or 83 CR's. I've ridden a few 91 - 96 cr500's and threw a leg over an 81' yz465 and 82' yz490.

I really liked those 91 - 96 cr's. Extremely fun bikes!

That one has been on CL for a few months. I see it on the Dallas CL every couple of weeks. The 82 is just not as desirable as the 83. Lot's of changes in the 83, not the least of which is losing about 15 pounds. I'd say an 82 in this condition is probably worth more in the 2 grand range and the Georgia bike is probably a $12-1500 bike. A good 83 is selling for $2500-3 grand unless it has an Ohlins shock and Race Tech emulators or 86-87 cartridge forks.
