Those of you interested in this, should look into Unit 731. Its very NSFW. Its one of the secret Japanese bases during ww2 where they carried out some of the most horrific war crimes ever against the chinese, koreans, and mongolians. Basically making the Nazi scientists look like altar boys. The scale was no where near the Holocaust, but its something that is often glossed over in history. Many of the Japanese scientists were granted immunity in exchange for data they gathered on their experiments/bio-weapons.

I was going to post the same thing. Unit 731 was horrific, disgusting excuses for human beings.

Also In regards to Holocaust denial, I think it is a good thing. The Holocaust deniers keep the discussion about it open in a way which wouldn't happen without them, to disprove their claims you have to look into the details which you wouldn't have been bothered about. They are absolutely wrong, but should be tolerated at the very least.

If you want to know more about what the Nazis had planned for the East after the final victory, look up Generalplan Ost. The more you learn about the Nazis the more you realise just how nuts and Ice cold they where.

I do love me some world war 2 history. This is also an eye opener about the ww2 death toll. Very well put together video.

Yeah, they were absolutely insane.

Part of it was to set up communities of "soldier peasants".

I find the Nazis and the Eastern front absolutely fascinating, terrifying and horrific all at the same time.

If you haven't already, you should check out Dan Carlins hardcore history podcast. He does an amazing retake of the ww2 eastern front, and also another series on the insanely brutal first world war. Trench warfare and the introduction of shellshock was some incomprehensible stuff.

A WW1 Veteran once said, "If you want to know what the shelling was like, place your palms over your ears with your fingers curved meeting in the center of the back of your head. Press your palms down so that they mute your hearing, and drum your fingers against the back of your head.

Now imagine that for 3 months straight."

It's almost mesmerizing how insanely cruel some people have been in the past and probably still are. I can't even wrap my head around that kind of torture of a living person that's not guilty of something equally horrendous.

Speaking of torture, here is a pretty sweet story. ISIS dudes were about to torch 12 hostages alive and a British sniper over a mile away shot the tank that was on the back of the ISIS guy and killed 4 other terrorists. Could you imagine the feeling if you were one of the 12.

Wow. What a story. I was having a tough time figuring out how shooting a tank would do that until I figured out is was the tank of fuel for the flame thrower carried on his back.

Yeah, I cant imagine what was going through the minds of those 12 people. One second its terror of getting ready to be burned alive to realizing, all of the sudden, you are going to live.

If you want one of the best reads from the beginning toend of Hitlers regime read "The Rise & Fall if the Third Reich" by William Shirer. IT is a long arduous book but very detailed and explains a lot. Frankly, should be required in schools.

And yes, the Nazi's did disarm Germany just not all at once. It started with Jews and trickled down. They also controlled ammunition supply. It seems people pick up quite a few misconceptions when they get there history from TV. Wonder why that is?...................................

Thanks for that I will check it out.

I know that I had 2 relatives that suffered shell shock during WW1, one of them was in the Infantry and survived a month and a half on the Somme in 1916, he was only 23. God only knows the things he would of have seen.

The other one was in the Royal artillery, he survived 3 years on the western front and was wounded many times including being gassed. After the war he attached hay on the walls inside his house to deaden the outside noise, he also removed the knocker on his front door.

Really sad stuff, to have been through that amount of trauma before they were even 25.

sorry to go completely off topic here, but this is what spurred my thoughts...

Frankly, should be required in schools.

the other day i'm driving down the road with my 10 year old nephew and am telling him different things about the history of Utah. he asks me how Utah was founded and i tell him by the pioneers. he say's who? and i ask how he's never heard of the pioneers, and especially the Mormon pioneers.

well, little dude has a mother (my sister, God bless her heart) that insists he and his sister go to "charter" schools because her kids are too good for public schools. well, one of the major things that charter schools don't teach is history, of any kind. not about Utah, not about the USA, not about Europe, WW2, Civil War, Independence, nothing. he knows all about Obama though for fukksakes.. blew my fucking mind. how can a school "skip" history?

anyway... just thought i'd share.

next year he's starting public school.

For you guys who like to read, The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer is perhaps the best of the 20-30 autobiographies I've read by actual infantrymen of the Third Reich. It's a long read but fascinating and well detailed every inch of the way.

Funny how the guy from another country gets it, but this knuckle head is defending white people (where no real attack warranted any defense in the first place) hahahaha it's almost too funny to be real.

Here is a paradox. If germans were to spare my grandparents house, it`s 99.9% chance all of our family would be sent to Siberia, to gulag and I might have never been born. Russians sent to gulags everyone who owned a land and property in Latvia.
^ which is exactly what happened to my family, who were land/property owners close to the pre-war border between Poland and the USSR. Russian soldiers arrived, arrested my grandparents and their 3 children, and then forcibly moved them to a camp in Kresy Siberia where the odds of survival weren't great. But thanks to their tenacity, determination and refusal to give up, they did survive, and I wouldn't be here otherwise. Words can't express my pride, respect and admiration for them.

I will say one thing about the behaviour of Russian soldiers. At least one member of their army had some compassion, as during their arrest he whispered to my grandmother (who spoke Russian fluently) that she should take the warmest clothes. That act of humility may have saved their lives, as people died on the journey to - and in - Siberia due to the temperature. Had the soldier been caught in conversation, punishment would have been severe.

A significant and very overlooked event.

Orders to the Wehrmacht commanders on August 22, 1939, a week before the Nazi invasion of Poland:

"...our war aim does not consist in reaching certain lines, but in the physical destruction of the enemy. Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formation in readiness - for the present only in the East - with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space which we need.

Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"

- Adolf Hitler.

The turks deny it strenuously and you can easily go to jail there if you tax them with it but I think that's commonly known, isn't it?

Btw. Germany officially confessed another genocide these days. It concerns an african tribe from Namibia and it got a little lost in turmoil of WW2. It's about 10 to 100 k victims. The tribe kicked out to the german occupying forces back in the day, so the Wehrmacht herd them into the desert after they poisoned all wellsprings to ensure safety... The tribe still exists and now the government is in disagreement about to pay reparations.
