when i was a little kid my dad put a poster up on his bar fridge in the shed filled with VB. it was mike browns kx 125 #3 and to me was the sickest looking bike i had seen. 10 years later i'm still thinking the same but the difference now is i can afford to build the bike. and so i am (almost)
i dont want to over do it and end up spending thousands on a bike worth less than, but have a bike i can happily rev the shit out of not worrying about all the money i have put in it.
but its still got to look sweet.
so after a few months of looking i found one in my hometown for $1500, pretty run down but the motor sounds solid and all the parts were on it, basically standard.
turns out it was a good friends bike new, and the local dealer sold it to the friend i bought it off of. (small town hustle)
the forks were dry of oil, the carby leaked 5L of premix and the brakes didnt work when i got it home to test ride, but i was stoked.
here she is after washing it;

this is what i'm aiming for

i made an order of new parts for the '05 125 that came today,
and a fresh front tyre, i'll save the old rear for a celabratory burnout haha

all new plastics, flo green would have been sweet but seemed difficult to find
new oem fuel cap, old one was split open, fresh braided front brake line, muffler packing

Also got the the suspension serviced, but not yet tuned..
the carb also got an overhaul, fresh hoses and seals

sticker kit on order from n-style who were happy to send one for me but only in kx green and not flo green (suits) i wont put the new palstics on until the kit comes.
and some new chunkier steel foot pegs i think the brand is super stock

current progress...

If you want some sweet wheels to go along with that build let me know. Fasterusa green hubs with DID dirtstar rims. Rear is a 1.85 width. Only a couple rides on em. Awesome build by the way!

this is how it is, i caved and put the new plastics on before the stickers came which has taken forever
got an acerbis chain guide this week that suited a late model kxf, wasnt a direct fit but made it work ok.
took for the first proper ride today and it is quick af, would not be surprised if it had a 144 in it! (hopefully not)
i was contemplating looking around for all PC parts but at the end of the day i dont need it. haha.
a friend of mine has some used kx250 serco triple clamps that he gave to me, not sure if they will fit but we'll see.
planning to order a pc expansion and a BUD muffler, those black carbon mufflers are one of the sickest i've seen, and not over priced(much)
also need some bar mount rubbers, i'd like to get some renthal bar mounts the ones on it aren't standard and look sheeit. if anyone know if the mount will come with rubbers too, that would be handy to know.
need some new sprockets and chain too for extra glamour haha

n-style has to be the most difficult people to deal with. alot to do with being OS but i think its been nearly a month of e-mails and a few calls to finally have it on the way.
at first it was all good to get the 2003 kit just not flo green but turned out they dont have it anymore..
opted for the 2004 which is similar, and still sick. at least it would want to be for $300 inc. post.
excited to have a good ride this weekend, hopefully the kit shows up tomorrow with any luck Smile

Nice man!
I just picked up a 2003 kx 125. looks a little ratty due to stickers etc, but bike it self hasnt had much use from what I can tell. I'll be doing the same thing you are. PC mock up.
Eventually want to find PC clamps and some other goodies.

Please dont put a Bills pipe on if your running PC kit.
Always hated that, but end of the day its your bike.

I had a bill's on a 99 and 01. To be honest I don't know if it did all that much at all. My brother had the same bikes with stock pipe and I think I preferred his.

The magazines said the stock expansion chamber and PC R304 make the most power for the 03, Id assume its the same 03+. Its what I run on mine, but Im thinking about throwing a PC on soon because the stock pipe isnt the best looking.

Really enjoyed reading this entire thread. Bike looks great.

We just finished completely rebuilding a 2003 KX125 from the frame up for my son. We race the Southern Off-Road Championship Series, www.sorcs.net, and several GNCC's. He races for Team Kawasaki of Statesboro. He's moving up from the mini class and coming off a 2015 KX100. He's only 14 but 5'10" so he out grew mini's. We thought he was going to move up to a 2015 KX250F. He started practicing and doing a few races on my KX250F and he was doing OK, complained about the weight and not being able to "flick it around". He borrowed a friends RM125 and DESTROYED our test track and came back with a huge grin on his face. I went and bought a donor KX125 that week for 850 bucks, RUNNING!!

Total frame off restoration. Sent motor to Eric Gorr to upgrade it to a 144. We added a 7oz flywheel weight. Brand new Hot Rods crank and bottom end. Sent suspension off to Factory Connection. Full Pro Circuit exhaust with shorty 304. IMS over sized tank. EVERY bearing, nut, bolt, washer replaced. Powder coated frame. Polished swing arm. All new Works Connection controls. All new plastics with updated 2016 front fender and number plate with custom graphics. Boyesen magnesium clutch and ignition covers (not pictured because of back order status) New set of DNA wheels, black with green hubs.
