Thanks for all the help. It sounds like DFW is the place to be in Texas for moto. But I guess if I do end up moving to Austin, I'll have to make some road trips to Cycle Ranch and 3 Palms. Both of those places look amazing. Let me know if you know of any other good tracks near Austin. Thanks again

Just moved to the area not too long ago.

Del Valle looks good and I might head there this sunday but im going to try and go early as they said its good until about 1 then it bakes out due to the heat and lack of water.

Does it get that bad during the day?

Del Valle is okay but Cycle Ranch in San Antonio seems a lot nicer. There's supposedly an MX track here as well, just a 25 minute drive south from Austin, in San Marcos. http://www.texasskiranch.com/

TSR has not had an MX track since late 2008. I ride with a bunch of Austin area guys, and they make the trip to Cycle Ranch most weekends. The toll road has an 85mph speed limit!! doesn't take long to get there...lol

I ride Cycle Ranch most Saturdays, the dirt is simply amazing, good elevation changes and they maintain it very well. We go early to get moto's in, it just gets too hot here in the afternoon.

Having only lived here almost 2 years myself, Austin is not a mecca for moto. ADVMX is decent, and close to town. They build the jumps a bit weird. Kind of small and kicky, which I think is strange for a track with not many advanced riders. Cycle Ranch in Floresville, like everyone says, is worth the 2 hr drive. They have good hours, and the track is so much fun. The gas to and from just makes it expensive. Or if your lucky you meet someone with a private track. Look at the bright side, there may be less tracks, but Austin is a much more fun place to live than most cities. Just enough hippies and rednecks to balance itself out.

ADV gets seems to get pretty baked after noonish. CR will stay pretty nice until late in the day...they rip it pretty deep lately and it holds up well. The only limit is how long you can take the heat.

CR also has a night track now that will host their summer series, motomania. Its definitely worth a look. They are just finishing the lights up.

Here is a couple pics my wife took of me a couple months ago. It was not a full prep practice day, so the dirt was a little dry. As you can see, its still awesome..

i knew coming in there wasnt a whole lot of tracks super close but since im not anywhere near being a pro rider i didnt want to move to a boring ass place just to ride..still a younger guy and want to do other things..as much as i love riding bikes.

ive heard of red rock or whatever its called, not the murphys mx track but the private track Andrew Short rides at..it looks awesome but its invite only from what i understand

looks like ill be making some weekend trips to DFW and such

Look up Austin Area Motocross Scene on facebook. If you post on there you can likely get lots of info.

cant say ive heard of any trails in east austin..place is ghetto as fuck..lol but i will say that Murphys MX is the best track in Austin at the moment even though it's in Red Rock..best track open to the public.

Del Valle is a piece of shit and the only reason people go there is because it's the only game in town..why its so shitty from what i remember being told is the city doesnt like the track being there because of all the houses being built near it and that they made the dude who owns it re-do it..not sure how truthful it is but the track has alot of small, dangerous peaky jumps.

trust me when i say its worth it to save yourself the trouble of riding del valle and spending the extra $$ to go ride at Murphys or head down to San Antonio to ride cycle ranch..

I miss Texas!!

There is Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls,TX. It has very technical and rocky trails. But it's worth the drive to mix it up with moto. And they offer membership which allows you to ride any day of the week. Google them and the info is on the website.

Figured I would just add on to this old thread instead of starting a new one. I have a job opportunity near Austin and just wanted to see if anyone could share any updates on tracks, recommended places to live, etc. Really anything that might be helpful to know good or bad before making a decision.

ADV is the closest track to Austin it good but on Wednesday nights. On the weekends you have ADV, Murphy's, 3palms, RioBravo and a track in Highlands. The tracks in Houston are a couple of hours away, but worth the drive occasionally!

Adv can get dry on hot weekends, but during the week its usually pretty nice. Murphys is great, love the facility but I haven't had the chance to go to red rock and I really would like to

Any other thoughts on preferred places to live? Seems like the tracks are on the Southeast side of town so probably have to compromise a little on being close to work in Cedar Park and still being able to get to the tracks without too much hassle. I'm pretty familiar with the tracks up in Dallas/Fort Worth so know I'll want to get up there some as well.

Cedar Park and Round Rock is the suburbs of Austin. A little over an hour to Red Rock.

Murphy's is a great place with 2 tracks and trails. Just right, not too sandy, not too hard. Friendly and shady.

Red Rock (reservations required) is a dream for training pro's and a nightmare for the unprepared. Deep sand everywhere. A beautiful place that has recently added a Vet track. No races, no start gate.

ADV - Austin Del Valle MX is very busy due to being closer to the city. Well maintained although it floods several times a year and gets damaged. The only current night track (run on the same main track) A seldom prepped "Vet" extension.
No shade means muddy in the morning and dry by the afternoon.

Cycle Ranch is a national caliber track about 2 hours drive to south San Antonio. It had stayed closed for a year, and is now opened about 1 weekend a month with reservations for practice only. 4 tracks at one time, limping along now.
