It was very windy at that track, that day. No double meaning, guy`s were getting blown to the side.

Thats what I thought. Its just hard to see wind blowing a rider, so I thought there was a second meaning.

Oh man fuck he makes me laugh! I think he's awesome but it's funny with all the doors he thinks are on motorbikes and the way he'll always try to predict how someone will pass someone else and it'll always be wrong haha My mate and I always send each other malin soundgrabs from that weekends gp haha.. My favourite is still on my phone from Latvia where he said an MX2 rider was "still yet to sniff the box (long pause) pardon the pun" hahaha

Still fast on a bike.

And does a good job... he calls every race, and does a studio show. On his own.

Great announcer, but I don't understand why they don't partner him up

I can't understand why he wasn't paired up with Adam Wheeler at least once this year. They make a great combo imo.

x2. In recent years it was kind of the thing to put Adam Wheeler on the show to annonce the 2nd motos along with Malin.

I like Malin, not because he was an idol of mine when I was in my early years of racing, but because he still lives, breathes motocross & I think that comes across in his broadcasting.

I'm hoping Guy B managed to catch up with him about doing a Q & A appearance on here.

You know There was a long time where I couldn't really stand listening to Paul. He sounded like he had a big chip on his shoulder when talking about an American rider or our series. It wasn't just me that felt this way , as other American's AND guys from across the pond felt the same way at one time.

FFWD to now.....I actually dig listening to Paul. I think he does a great job at announcing and he definitely has experience in the sport to analyze things during a broadcast. I gotta say though....sometimes he scares the shit out of me! A rider goes down and all you hear is " AAHHHH!!!!....And he got it completely wrong!!".....Haha , that'll wake your ass up!

Thanks OP for putting that vid up! Very nice!

I think Paul does a great job. And I also liked the combination with Adam. My understanding (which may be incorrect) is that it was only ever an informal relationship though and that Adam was not on the payroll.

For sure that's great, his announcing really added to the racing and kept me waiting for the next comment!!!

I almost feel like he is better off and funnier on his own. It seemed when he got partnered up it held him back a bit in my opinion.

You're welcome, I wasn't familiar with his commentary work until they started broadcasting last year on CBS sports but I hear ya on all that. But it seems like he's just putting on a show now and I'm a fan!!! He definitely lefts some comments that left me laughing for days!!!

I think Paul Malin does an awesome job. By far one of my favorite announcers, along with Emig.

I have raced all of the 94 winning team, and the guy doing the commentary, Kenny Kay .

I would love to hear Malin commentate on this event with Emig, as if it was live.

And Emig was a stand up guy at Farleigh, took some ribbing , but was gracious and genuinely funny , pleasure to have seen him ride .

That's pretty cool, and an awesome experience to have. That would be something to hear them commentate on that event!!!!

Talking of Kenny Kay. He used to do the commentary before Malin but I'm pretty sure he disrespected Shaun Simpsons brother on live TV. He was saying something like there's Simpson's mechanic, who happens to be his younger brother, he then goes on to say that he's been his mechanic for years & and he's only 15, didn't he ever go to school.

Simpson family heard it and complained & and I believe Malin took over from there.

While Kenny Kay used to get a bit of flack, he was a good sort.
He ran a club in north wales , and was in with the Motovision guys that used to do all the races straight to video.. when the full time TV came he slotted into that, but as YS started its campaign to kill the traditional tracks and move to flat fields at road race venues, Kenny was quite vocal in his disapproval, which was a credit to him, and that ddint sit well with Luongo.. the Simpson spat was true , but i dont recall the exact timing of it... Kenny went away and was replaced by my friend Martin Bennett who was doing SM world championship stuff at the time.. he told me it was a brutal schedule, doing voiceovers for highlights shows till the early hours, and as he had a good amount of regular work , i think he saw the year out with MXoN at donington and moved on.. I started doing the British SM on circuit stuff; as Martin did GP's which was supposed to fill the void of not racing, but i didnt quit , and did 2 seasons of calling all the races i wasnt in... then went on to MX stuff.. martin does summer shows and other relatwd atuff that doesnt interfere with his day job, and Roger Warren now does the on circuit MXGP stuff as well as Eurosport with RobA off here . Adam Wheeler who used to sit in with Malin is the editor of OTOR which is a magazine style website for MX and MotoGP.. and i believe he is also PR for Monster too, or some of the Monster teams. I think weekend workload keeps him out if the booth.

Interesting post philG. I believe that the Simpson spat happened in 2008. I remember Kenny bringing it up himself live on air during the one of the GPs (I think Montova) - how the Simpsons had taken what he had meant completely the wrong way. It didn't sound like he had meant anything bad by it at all.

I think after Paul Malin, Roger Warren was probably my favourite, I always thought he did a great job with the GP broadcast.

I was chatting to Roger last week , he still has a day job, its a big leap to go full time, although i know he has done WSB as well.

On circuit work is cool, you can watch what you want and talk about the battle for 8th if its good, TV is all about what the director is following, which is totally different.
