thats two frame generations and several years of Honda R&D into refining
that chassis..
different, rake, trail, sterring head angle swingarm, frame, susp, triple clamp offsert , etc etc etc.
they do not handle anything the same.....
The 01 CR250 was a good bike,,
time moves on though.
and those early year Honda perimeter frames still had some teething pains
in 02 they improved the frame/chassis design,
but the engine went backwards by almost anyones standard.. and despite revifinement , never really had th esnap of the 01's.
The CRF 250 chassis is yet another generation of R&D (and improvements)
past the 02-07 CR250's..
IMO the '01 CR250 motor is the best 2-stroke 250 ever produced (for the expert / pro level rider), other wise the current YZ/RM 250 motor could be better suited (again IMO) for the novice/intermediate/vet level.
Together with the modern CRF chassis, this will be an absolute dream machine. Mount up some "A kit" Showas and I just may come out of retirement!
I compliment your creative vision and passion for both moto and 2-strokes.
So where do I give my CC info to order one?
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
(and i agree with your take on the engines, everyone likes something different though..
all those motor a re pretty hard to knock.. as they are good powerplants for sure)
lol on the CC info..
but if you are now, or in the future seriously interested in one, email me
ajwaggoner@servicehonda.com
now my dream bike would a 144 rm engine on a 09 rm z 250 chassis. i already have both bikes in my garage. lol.
keep doing the wonderful work you are doing.
Looks and sounds like a sweet ride
on the bike,
you know you can ride it ... anytime..!!
it will be in socal by feb first,,,,,
and hang out there for awhile ..
to those questioning 'why"
lol ive been asked that on an awful ot of projects.. ..
hey "why not"? is always the answer?.
and as a mulitline dealership,
i certainly understand thier are perfectly good orange and blue 250 2 stroke bikes availible..
and lots of choices out there!
but some people prefer brunttes to blondes?
or red heads?
some folks just like a kawasaki ,yamaha ,KTM ,suzuki or Honda,,
choice is good!
(and i'll be offering even more choices very soon
and yes this bike is better than an 07 CR250
(which was getting dated as a 5 year old chassis design)
since ive put 500 engines in both the CR and CRF chassis in question ,
and have a ton of seat time on both, the differences are easily apparent..
i felt i could make a fundementally better CR250,
than the last one made,.
and very much like the inspiration for a CR500AF, or KX500AF..
the manufactuers had stopped all R&D on the chassis years ago,
and then finally stopped making them altogether..
so somewhat importantly if you like red, you cant buy a 08 or 09 CR250..
but you can buy what i feel is a new improved version of it..
just like a 500AF , it may not be the perfect cup of tea for everyone,
but its a great bike and certainly some riders will find its the perfect bike for them..
on the 125 or 144 thing, if guys are up for them ,
that's a fun project for me !!!!
about the same as a CRF250R since the engines are nearly the same weight.
I think a new aluminum RMZ250 chassis w/ a modern RM250 motor w/ a 285cc kit would be the obvious combination to build. The RMZ250 is considered the best handling MX chassis right now and the RM250 motor is highly regarded and the end result would be a HUGE improvement over the steel framed RM250 not to mention the RM250s are no longer available.
