OCR, Bithlo, FL in spring 2003. There a short straight after the first turn with a pop up jump, landed in a hole and my left hand came off the bars. This caused me to draped over the front of the bike with my throttle hand bent down, could not let off and had no control. Made it into the big braking bumps and that's when it got real ugly. Bike then pitched me high side about ten feet in the air upside down. End result was a cracked sternum, 2 broken ribs, broken collarbone and one very sore shoulder.

Damn bros. My shattered elbow, and torn labrum doesn't even rank against some of these stories. Not even worth telling.

Worst MX was not bad, run over in first turn but no bad outcome. I was lucky enough to know how untalented I was and managed not to over reach too much.

Worst, most painful crashes were in the desert, both involving silt and speed (such speed as is possible with me), one a classic desert downhill (still not sure what happened, probably a buried rock), the other finding a rut at night.

I've never broken a bone in seven years of riding (touchwood) but the worst crash I've had was when I looped out and slid down a hard pack track taking all the skin off my back. Took over a week to finally scab over and left some scars. Pales in comparison to some of the stuff on here...

I've been riding for about a month and my 2 worst so far would be the first time I actually ride at my friends little track, I came out of a small turn in 2nd which ties into his gravel driveway. I hit powerband and hadn't learned how to control the bike yet, and was going straight for a pine tree, panicked and hit the front brake and the bike stopped but I went over the bars and head first into the tree. Thank god for helmets Grinning had quite the headache for the rest of the night.

My other bad one was about 3 weeks ago I was hitting my friends tabletop and the weekend before was doing it pretty good, but for some reason couldn't get back in the motion of controlling the bike in the air and going fast enough to get air lol. Anyways I was in 2nd and hit power band before the jump, got way too much air, kind of supermanned and let go. Landed on my feet, then fell to the ground because I hurt my left heel somehow. Walked funny for about a week, hurt pretty bad the next, and this week it's actually starting to feel better. I would say it feel like I "cracked" my heel in half lol. But I guess I probably just bruised it pretty bad. Wasn't wearing riding boots. I realize this has nothing on the rest of you but maybe within the next couple years I'll have a better story to share Grinning

I'm in a hospital checking a possible broken back
Over jumped and landed in soft mud. Over the bars and onto my back. Chiropractic found break yesterday, just trying to get confirmation today.

Hmmm.... Well, I slid out kinda gnarly in a corner one time and scratched up my elbow pretty bad...got a GIANT scab on that one. I also sorta knocked the wind out of myself once, but that was in the pits when I fell down putting my bike on the stand.

Straight away and a hairpin to a 40' single. Missed my gear and rolled the jump face. Came up over the landing just as the guy behind me was landing. He lands on my head and I go down in a heap. Foot peg goes through my knee cap. I wake up and all the bikes are on the lading hill waiting for me to get the fuck out the way. Real sensitive bunch we are. Kept the tire marks on my helmet for about a year. Hey, it was a good story but not epic.

Outlaw race '81. My buddy offered me his brand new CR125 and we'd split the $$50/50....should been a leeetle stiffer settings as it kicked me in 5th gear pegged...Stuck his new CR 125 6ft up a nearby tree and I stuck like a lawn dart and scorpioned, 3 thoracic compression fractures and blown Thoracic T11-T12 disc. Grade 3 AC shoulder separation, cracked and separated ribs and bruised liver from driving my elbow into said ribs. 30+ yrs later here's what my neck and spine look like at 56yo...hammer down guys I'll just watch.

2nd Worst: I was at Carnegie, literally just got there, and was warming up on the flats just outside the parking lot. Pretty soon I was going WFO and came up to what looked like a slight rise but was actually a HUGE F@#$%^G hole. I hesitated for a split second and then made one last desperate twist. Nope. I missed clearing it(nose down) by about six inches, endoed at about seventy and got FULLY F@#$%^G CREAMED by the bike(Husky 400 XC). Everyone thought I was dead. Five minutes later, I walked away with no skin on my right arm and a set of broken "unbreakable" Husky bars. I was on the bike for about one minute that day and was 100% sober lol.

1st Worst: I showed up at the track(just to hang out) hung the $%^& over and my bro offered to let me take a few laps on his bike. Ehem... Endo over the finish line table. Never even made the slightest attempt to eject. Landed pretty much upside down, flat on my back, and got FULLY F@#$%^G CREAMED by the bike(CR500). Everyone thought I was dead. Five minutes later, I walked away with a cracked pelvis and a shredded nutsack(How TF?). I never rode any way but 100% sober after that.

All my broken bones were the result of stuff that was no where near as bad as those.

Crashed at Milestone back in 2013. Hit a kicker going up the face of a double and that was all she wrote. End result was a fractured and dislocated right humerus/shoulder, fractured and dislocated left acetabulum/hip, and some cartilage damage in my left knee that ultimately required microfracture surgery. The rod above my left knee was inserted to keep my hip in traction. The doc working on me could get it back in, but it would come back out as soon as she didn't apply pressure to it. Pretty unnerving feeling when you are technically awake but so loaded up on Morphine and Propofol that when the doc drills a hole through the bottom of your femur to insert the rod you don't feel a damn thing! After surgery, I was not allowed to walk, so I spent 3 months in a wheelchair. Really put some things into perspective! Came out of surgery with a plate and 9 screws in my shoulder and a pin and 5 screws in my hip. It's always fun walking through metal detectors now! Smile

I was coming home with my buddy, playriding through the puddles in my hometown. We were roosting each other, so when I saw this gigantic puddle (small pond) to the outside of a right-hand turn that went around the corner of a picket fence, I figured I'd avoid it. My friend was to the inside and behind me, and I tried to aim to the right and squeeze him into the fence so he'd have to back off. He was coming up faster than I expected, trying to push me out into the puddle.

When we collided, it knocked my right arm off the handlebars and turned them to the left. The front wheel went left in a hurry and it would have been a simple highside, except that the bars got hooked on his radiator or something. I fell onto his spinning rear wheel, which picked me up and stuffed me under his fender. My right arm and head were sticking out under his right sideplate and the rest of my body was tangled up on my bike and on the ground to his right. For a moment, he didn't know what was going on and tried clutching and downshifting.

Eventually his bike stalled, but not before that rear Dunlop nearly cut me in half! Sonofabitch that hurt for weeks.

Man you guys are crazy.

June 13th 2004, swapped out in a 4th gear whoop section and slammed into the face of one, backwards on my right shoulder at a rather high rate of speed (I thought I was Tim Ferry). Broke every rib on that side in numerous places punctured the lung and split my scapula with an inch wide crack through the socket. Let alone reshaping my whole right side a good two inches in the process.

I went to Washougal that year walking the hillside in a rummy state of opiate delirium, utilizing every empty chair I came to for rest, much to the dismay of whoever owned said chair. Wink

Of course I kept riding at a rather sedate speed which caused the screws to back out and scrape my humeral head flat. Finally got it repaired in 2014 with a new titanium ball and plastic socket. It's wonderful to finally live a rather pain free life. We won't talk about the other dislocations and fractures because, although quite numerous, pale in comparison to this moto career ender. My surgeon said "Don't fuck this one up as I can't repair it again."

My injuries pale in comparison to most of these but, I do have a funny story! My start in MX was my parents bought me a webco BMX bike and about 4 months later i was winning BMX races, they wouldn't/ couldn't afford to do MX and they didn't approve of the ability to get injured. So I got a paper route at 13 and got an 80 myself, then at 15 i started sacking groceries and soon i had a legit 125 and racing. a few years later i'm winning quite a few A races, getting sponsor's ect...and about to turn pro. My father finally decides to come out to watch me race. Final practice i cross rutted in a very fast part of the track and get KO'ed.... My dad got in his car and left before i even came out of it!

I had been jumping the right side of the jump in practice and all was good, but there had been a few practices and races in between my first race, and the right side of the jump had been destroyed, but it was the first lap and I had a good start, I couldn't see the face at all through the dust, but the adrenaline just made me go for it anyway, bad idea.

In 1976 I was riding at a privet mx membership only track with a locked gate and I, my wife and my son were the only ones there. After a few laps and some rest I went back out on the track and was turning some fast laps and when I went over a very high speed ski type jump I hit another bike head on while I was still in the air. It knocked me out cold.
When I woke up there was an ambulance and several other people there. I looked around and saw my bike on the ground with the front forks bent all the way back to the swing arm. I also saw the other bike and it was in two pieces with the rider on a gurney being hauled off .
I later found out that the other rider had cut a fence and rode his bike onto the track without even looking to see which way it was being run.
I was ok after a week or 2 with no big injuries. I did have a big mess to fix on the bike now needing a complete new front end and some frame work and wheel.
The other rider had a broken arm, leg, separated shoulder and many cuts. He was wearing no riding gear at all. He was also in big trouble with the law too. I never heard or saw any thing more of this at anytime later.

Yep the track was roached, and this was my first race of the day. They had a race there the next day also!

This happend on my first lap, first race back after 6 years off, what a come back. I rung my bell pretty good, and hyperextended all the fingers on my left hand. I still finished the race and raced the second moto. I didn't want to quit on my first race in 6 years. Worst part of it was the injury to my left hand gave me arm pump on that arm all year.

This was not even close to my worst crash, but it is the only one cought on camera.

Saturday. First track day of the season on our little homemade track. Was running Nice laps on a kx450f. 3.2 hours on the New bike . I wanted to gain the time I lost in the second to Last turn of the track. 3 médium bumps followed by a small jump . Too much throttle .bike kicked me off. Saved it going straight into trees. I Just had time to steer out of the tree line. Ended up flying 10feet in the air with the bike landing on m'y back. Broke throttle side engine shroud.

Never disrespect a 450f, I learned it the hard way haha

Back in 2005 I had the chance to ride a friends bike. By that time I hadn't ridden in ten years. (I quit back in 1995).
First I just rode one lap around a familiar track. Ten had a little break 'cause I got arm pump already. Then I decided to go all out the next lap.. Got half a lap in and overjumped one hill jump and landed to a pit just before the next jump.
Then I slammed myself hard on the tank and lost a grip from handlebars. Then I was already airbourne from that jump and was kinda in superman position... Not in control though. Grinning
I landed to my feet and hurt my knee so band that I couldn't walk straight for 3 weeks. But nothing got broken and the knee healed back to normal eventually.
I never broke anything while riding. Probably 'cause I was so slow. Haha.

It was not motocross but it was at Loretta Lynns. This past weekend at the Spring ride.
I very ill advisedly tried to keep up with a AA rider and it didn't last very long.
Just a few stitches and a badly bruised knee. Probably doing, no joke, 35mph when I contacted the tree with my bike and right leg. A set of $99 Thor knee guards prevented a bunch of damage.

The guy who came up behind me asked if I had my phone and suggested taking a pix...I know it's kinda weird but glad he took it.

OTHG MMX crash

Not that bad a crash, but decent results. Looking back it's a bit funny, although my wife has never seemed too amused by it.

I was having a fun day battling Rob in moto 1 up until the 7:55 mark. After I got done kissing my axle, I got back on an finished the moto. I didn't go out for moto 2 though - played it safe. This was my 2nd moto concussion of 4 total (2 in football, 2 in moto).

Also have broken a femur and tore up a knee in moto. Femur was a big crash but many years ago.
