Yes I'm 20... I guess 40 doesn't sound so bad then
Overall finishes in pro moto are essentially meaningless. They go on and on about it but in the grand scheme of things they are only an obscure tie breaker.
annoyances = new injuries
- always having a bad start.
- lappers or slower people in front of you who look over their shoulder and still cross your line or run you to the side of the track.
- bad flaggers (flaggers who wave yellow on a jump for someone who fires up his bike a straight away and a turn ahead AND flaggers who are not paying attention and don't wave yellow for a rider who lays in a dangerous position behind a jump.)
- riders who tip over or crash behind jumps, and try to fire up their bike in the middle of the track at practice days with no flaggers.

The issue with two many classes. Seriously, the ISSUE WITH TOO MANY CLASSES. where's the disconnect? How come everyone who goes to ride/race the track complains about it but every track still does it? If you've got 40 gates at your track, 7 b class guys and 15 c class guys, put them on different sides of the dog house, drop the gate for b, reset it, wait 60 seconds and drop for c. It's basic
- People that complain about sandbaggers. Let's be honest, the only people wanking about sandbagging are the same guys who rave about their big win when all the fast guys raced someplace else! Ever hear a "fast guy" complain about sandbagging?
- Rev Dorks. We all know one, they start the bike and immediately rev the piss outta it.
- People that think more noise equals more power, "hey man, I pulled my silencer off and this thing rips!" No clue, none...
- Not having enough money for, nor the ability to need, all the trick stuff one can actually buy for an MX bike these days.
- Injuries and getting old. Recovery from injuries and big nights boozing used to be so much easier, WTF?
- GP vs AMA debate. It cannot be quantified, let it go. Enjoy each for what they are.
- When your favorite rider is nearing the end of his reign, and the end becomes reality. I am a huge RC fan, but man was I bummed when he dethroned the King!
- Today's shitty pump gas.
I could probably write about 30 more, but I'll stop here...
Also their are folks on vital who cantt type good, it doesnt make since, sense theyre is spell check on here.
People who leave trash all over the ground after a practice or race day. Come on people pick up your trash.
Kids on pit bikes riding/racing through the pits with no helmet or boots. Parents have not a care in the world.
Riders who think a practice is a race. Bounce your bike off the rev limiter at me and I'm usually going to make it more difficult. If you are as fast as you think you are it won't be hard to pass me, I'm old and slow.
These families that have huge expensive rigs but can't park worth shit and take up 1/8th acre with all the stuff needed for a one day race. Meanwhile I'm rocking a S10.
And finally: Loam. What happened that every track had to be mushy as hell. Can anyone ride in hardpack anymore?
Too many stupid people in charge of important stuff.
Pit Row
1) Way too many classes.
2) Being at the track from sunrise, being there all day to race 8 laps. *
* Which is why I prefer just to ride open practice days. I can ride a lot more for less money.
3) Guys who somehow manage to ride almost every practice session. So....you're an A and C rider? And then you get pissed because us slow guys are in your way?
As a fan (Red Bud and Detroit SX every year).
1) Paying twice to park. Once at the gate and then again for trackside.
2) Porta johns are NASTY!!!! Please....if this is a World Class event, build some real restrooms.
3) SX is a race. Not a rock concert.
4) Announcers that NEVER shut up.
5) VIP areas are taking over and are way over priced. Which may be why I always see them less than half full.
6) TV coverage is horrible.
Still love the sport though in spite of the complaints. My preference is trails though. Always will be. I can ride for hour after hour. Go into town for gas and lunch. Hit the trails until sundown and almost never see the same tree twice.
Pre TUbliss I would even go to the bother of turning a tire around to get to the sharp side to extend tire life. I had two sets of wheels for my CR500 hard pack and sand so I didn't have to change tires to race at Sunrise up in Adelanto. I was a Carlsbad regular plus raced at Ascot. Until I bought a used front wheel I kept a hard pack MX 22 (?) on the spare wheel I bought new and only used it for the motos af Ascot. Marine layer would come in and that place was like riding on glass.
The TUbliss stays on rim so you only remove and install the tire.
Tire changing tips
Don't be in a hurry. Get a small bowl to put small parts in.
Whenever possible let the sun get the tire good and hot to make it easier to flex.
Use a lubricant for the bead and baby powder for the tube
Before putting the last sidewalk of the tire inside the rim inflate the tube slightly then remove valve stem to deflate or deflate as much as possible. Goal is to eliminate chance of pinching the tube by doing this pre inflation ritual.
Watch the Dunlop guys at a race
Do a search on Jay Clark tire changing tips. Jay aside from being the project bike King is a master tire changer. Not a bad bloke either.
Great point about then they take the longest to warm their bikes up. Funny how we can sometimes see these examples of irony for lack of a better word.
Cans in need of repacking usually pop on de acceleration too. People spend hundreds of dollars for wheels or what not but are sometimes reluctant to spend money for a repack to restore optimum power. Race gas users in particular should be on top of repacks since the more exotic the fuel typically the harder it is on the packing.
Over the span of my life I have lost all my core moto friends that I grew up racing with because of the fact that I had to go get a real job while their parents continued to support them, eventually causing us to lose touch.
I often feel very out of place when I show up to practice due to the fact that everyone has their tight groups, and approaching most of them to strike up conversations often just ends up with an awkward silence falling over everyone , like they're "too cool" to talk to you.
It makes me sad that there is so much ego in our sport now days. It's like everyone has a chip on their shoulder.
Edit: This is mostly true for my age demographic and younger (15-26). The older guys at the track are always welcoming and love to chat.
