Idk about this thread, but for me personally i always feel like pirumx is the most dangerous. ( last time i rode pirumx was 2008 or 07)

Ive had two of my worst crashes their on 1 uphill blind double and landed on a bike.. 2. peewee days slammed on the little track

For me, i take responsibility of my skill set and the track dangers BUT... some owners need to seriously chill the hell out with some of the blind stuff or the do this jump or your getting landed on type of hits.

I'd say im a decent slow intermediate and while i can jump some things theres stuff on main tracks, where i ride by and im like why, this is just unecessary

You don't remember the time in 2015 that they built up the power line triple with a huge booter lip? There was no out. My buddy 222 got landed on on that bitch and spent 10 months off the bike with lots of broken bones. 722 landed on a guy same week off of it.

The step up at the top of the hill has claimed many too, since you have to be hard on the brakes the second you hit to make the left turn. One OTHG member is still out over a year due to that one.

And the Fly 150 in 2015 - they left the massive pro face (had to be 20 foot) in place for a few weeks. It was hard to time the shorter landing (65 foot) and pretty easy to overjump it into the longer landing's !10 or so) peak. Another buddy blew out an ankle getting that wrong.

You can blame the riders, and/or the track in every instance above if you haven't ridden that setup, or don't know those riders. All are very solid Intermediate guys.

It's really hard to prep for everyone. Can't be done. What pleases a Pro generally scares the crap out of me, and makes me roll the whole place. They I'm in the way and afraid of getting landed on. Being old and slow sucks. Smile
I do remember that. And to that, I can see the point about it being unsafe.

I guess I never really had an issue with any of the jumps so I didn't find them unsafe.

A couple of weeks ago they did have one jump that was gnarly. When they shortened the track there was a triple that was really big and had a steep landing. That wasn't necessary. Had a good double but still the jump face was huge.

The step up at the top of the hill can be tricky. Especially when its really rough before it. Arm pump makes it even worse.

The prep there is normally very good. I like it to be ripped super deep, get a lot of ruts and kind of slow things down. But that in itself makes it dangerous to others. I have had I don't know how many guys cross rut in front of me and almost take me down. Like you said, its nearly impossible to prep the track to suit everyone's liking.

I just joined the gang, hopefully ill see you at some of the races and ride days!

I got hurt there when it was prepped super deep and over watered. Didn't even fall but got my boot caught up in the slop and tore up my knee pretty bad. If I was a better rider it probably wouldn't have happened.

Track mgmt at Hangtown is an ex-pro, and sometimes his guys setup their tracks for the 5% of riders that have pro-level skills, of which I am not one. Smile I had my own track and know what prep I liked but my idea of perfect isn't the same as everyone else's.

Gang is the best. I moved to Oregon last year so only rarely make a Gang race now - last one was Hangtown for the Nationals this year. Track prep was perfect and so was layout. Miss the Sacramento area - lots of good tracks there with a lot of variety.

Amherst Meadowlarks in amherst ohio. they use to put some pretty nasty lips on all the jumps. Big table tops and the only track with a set of 12 mean ass steep whoops.. They tamed everything after i left racing early 90s.. defiently everybody loved meadowlarks always full program and 100% payback for the pro class..even if it was a dangerous track. i was a member for years always had jason balas there or mike howell riding with me and my friends great times..

Awesome. My email is debski.j@yahoo.com. I have a full size foam pit, motocross track and a ramp set up. It's in Athens ga, but that's not too bad from Atlanta. Email me and let's ride!

Mattyhamz2--Why do you constantly have to bash mx126? Why would you want a track to close (from all your previous comments)? Any time a track closes it's not good for our sport (obviously). A lot of people actually like mx126, you obviously don't, just go somewhere else, like you stated, and leave it at that. Gorman you say? OK been there, don't see who would want to ride that, but i'll keep that to myself when i see a post about it! Your post above, 126 slowed, softened, and word is out, but you still refuse to try it?? Maybe you just dislike the owner, ok, but leave the track out of it. I've invited you come out and meet up, i think you would have a different opinion, track is different from when you rode there back in the day. And if you have been lately, still dont like it, well can't change that, everyone has different taste! There are tracks close to me that a lot of riders really like, and i'll pass on them. And i'll keep those comments to myself out of respect for those tracks, and the people who work there. The more tracks the better for the sport.

I didn't bash them at all this time. Someone mentioned them as being the most dangerous track and I asked if he remembered all the broken femurs some years back. (Maybe you don't remember that happening?) But the broken femurs had nothing to do with the track itself, that was all because of the riders. For some reason a lot of people would come down from the back and hit that table top sideways(their own doing) and land against the embankment. I personally watched 4 people do it over a couple month period and break femurs each time. Never blamed the track for that.

As for the track being soft and deep... It always was first thing in the morning no matter who was doing the track at the time, but it was also really slippery. By 10:30-11 it was always hard packed. Even now when I pass by on the way to the beach with the family, it's still hard packed around 10:30-11. I've spun thousands of laps at that place over the years and even helped my dad work out there back when it was Maxx Track. I spent countless hours out there watching my dad and his workers put in the water system back then.

I would never wish for or want a track to close, even piru. I did notice a while back the track was running backwards which looked pretty cool, but after seeing the way the owner talked to people who were trying to help him out with a few suggestions, I find it hard to want to spend my money there. When I do finally get the wild hair to go there(and at some point I will) I will let you know so we can meet up and ride together.

Just for the record... You might not of "bashed" Piru this time, but I've seen a bunch of posts where you did. I'm not trying to stir the pot, but when I opened this thread, I KNEW that I would find a post from you regarding Piru. It seems that you have a real issue with Steve and for the life of me, I can't understand why. I've known him for quite awhile and consider him a good friend. Whenever I see a post of yours talking shit about him, I just shake my head and resist saying anything, because you obviously have a reason for feeling the way you do and I can respect that. I've had issues with a few track owners over the years and looking back on it, I might of been a little out of line with my reasoning, but I never went on the Internet and bashed them either... I happen to know what it takes to run Piru, both expenses and the extreme amoun of labor he puts in to keep the gates open. People have no idea how tough it is to operate/ run a MX track. The cost of fuel for the tractors and water trucks, along with maintenance and upkeep alone are a HUGE cost. Add the water bill (especially in California) to keep the hard packed Ca dirt moist enough to work it with the equipment and then to keep it wet during practice. The labor costs for equipment operators, flaggers, gate keeper, portapoties, trash service, etc. Now include the mortgage or lease payment on the property, property taxes, etc and it's really not a great way of making money.

Steve was putting in countless hours to prep the track, which wasn't easy to do while running his business that actually makes a profit to live on. There was a guy or maybe a couple who thought that dumping their oil into the ports potties was OK, but the compan who rents him the porta potties charged him hundreds of dollars extra every week because this jackass keeps doing it, every week... Now factor in the gatekeepers that skim off the top and pocket some cash and then let in their friends for free. Not exactly good for keeping the track open. He's had the gates cut down and had bikes stolen and anything else that wasn't chained down. Now he's not only out on the things that get stolen, but he's got to fix the fence/ gate.

After spending an extremely lot of time/ effort to get the track in the best shape possible, he gets some guys praising his efforts and loving/ appreciating the track. But on the flip side, he gets guys complaint that the track is ripped to deep, the track needs bigger jumps, it's too wet when it opens, the flagger squirted me when I as riding by, etc. the other guy is saying otherwise... The jumps are too big, the ruts are too deep, the outside berms need to be bigger, the bathrooms are too hot and smell... It's a no win situation, then there's some guy on the Internet talking shit about what a dick he is and how the track sucks and nobody should go there.... I have no idea why he even bothers with keeping it open, but he really enjoys the sport and I'll give him a lot of credit for continuing. I would've been a way bigger DICK than him, I know that much. But I'm not exactly a good role model for dealing with the public, let alone a bunch of cry baby motocross riders that feel entitled to have the track just the way they like it. It's not the greatest track in California, but there's not too many tracks that put in the efforts that he does and get nothing in return. Zaca and Chaney Ranch are the only tracks that can compare, when it comes to prep. He's stuck with the dirt, not much he can do about that, but he does everything he can to make it the best it can be, even though he's getting nothing in return.

Gorman you say...., ughhh, really ? I get that it's only $5.00 a truck load and it's NEVER crowded, but there's a reason for that. Every since Joe Sutter left, it's been a shithole, IMO. I've given it several chances, but when I go to a track, don't expect to water the damn thing myself. But I'm not into riding a dustbowl and because of the state running that place, it's not exactly an ideal MX track for most people. You aren't going to see too many fast guys up there riding that track, that's for good reason.....

Please don't take any of this post personal, I'm only venting because I think most people are in the dark about what it REALLY takes to operate a MX track. I've been riding at Piru since the day it opened, I've personally known every person that has ran it. Steve is the first one to run the track that actually owns the land. My son raced there many times, from peewee to the Pro class. He's had great battles with guys like Seely, Caselli, Pugmire and so many more, but he never liked the track either. Since Steve bought the property and has put in the effort to disc the dirt, he actually likes to ride there, although he doesn't ride too often any more.
I didn't bring piru up in this thread, only saw someone mention it and asked if he remembered the broken femurs some years back. I'm sure tanner remembers them also. I'm pretty sure Kevin owned in back then. None of those broken femurs were due to the track, just the riders who at the time were not skilled enough to even be trying that table that was there. I unfortunate saw many that shouldn't have been jumping it, try and break femurs landing on the side of the hill with their leg sticking out. It wasn't pretty.

I did hear that his attitude changed after opening back up after the short closure and I hope that is true. Like I told The other guy(can't remember his username, I need to go back and look at it) I will be going there within a month or so to check it out. I hope he sticks with ripping it as deep as you guys are saying he does now. His attitude towards people and talking shit to them on social media before the short closure rubbed me completely wrong and I didn't want to support a guy who did that to his clientele publicly.

Even on an open practice weekend the MED-FLIGHT chopper appear regularly to take severely injured young men to the hospital, with life changing injuries. Truly could be a great track with a good operator but with the current operator its a death trap.

The AMA held a single event there 2 years ago, a ATV National, the officials said they will never return, they had never seen so many injuries or the such severity of injuries at a single event before, young people who's life was changed.

The only track in OHIO that needs a helicopter pad.

That's disappointing. I was hoping you were landing into a shark tank with lasers strapped to their head.

Watching the C group practice yesterday at one of our local tracks not known for having anything too challenging or dangerous. I came to the conclusion that it's not the track it's the rider. The track being relatively tame gave the less experienced riders way more confidence and more crashes than I have seen at the more challenging places like Baja Acres.

Most dangerous in CA, the Pala vet track. Nothing to do with the track, just how the riders ride it Silly

Mr. Bickley, I would really be surprised if you aren't banned from more tracks in the near future for this type of negative posting/bashing. Who would want your business?

I also find it very ignorant of yourself to state such an opinion (with assumptions) since you haven't been to the track in 2 years.

The original post on Pitracer was locked down and removed, so I guess you thought you could get away with it here?

My question is what track causes a disproportionality high level of major injuries, to me that come down to bad design, and/or bad operator. In Ohio we have both, when MED FLIGHT choppers arrive routinely on open practice days there is a problem, not with the riders, but a problem for sure.
The track is perfect, especially considering its one of the only real moto tracks in Ohio. Sounds like you need a new hobby or some riding lessons brother!

I haven't read this thread.
It's unfortunate the riders are documenting something dangerous about their local tracks.
The people trying to kill our sport will love this one..

In VA it's the track in my yard. The second most dangerous? The other track in my yard. The builder is sketchy. So is the rider.

So you saw something on Facebook and then posted the obituary in this thread taking a complete shot in the dark? I don't agree with most of what you say, but I thought you had more class than this.

I guess your desire for attention has no boundaries.

Briarcliff is a great track and we are lucky to have such a nice place to ride in Ohio. Jeremy is a good dude too. No one or track is perfect amd you know what they say about opinions and assholes, everyones got one and they all stink.

Kurt Mosher, If you read my original post it is in no way a "NEGATIVE POST" it is in fact an accurate post, AND that's the problem, for you JO and anybody else that can't see the real issue.

If the most dangerous track in every state in the Usa WAS made 10% safer then MX in general would be much safer. If you want this sport to be around in 40 years like it was for us 40 years ago than its time to be realistic before some legislator's get involved. We can't keep putting 16 year old kids in the ER with plates and screws without some repercussions.

So if you think my original post was anything but a cry for honest wakeup call for change, you are wrong.

Every track we ride on is completely safe, never seen any problems with track safety at all.....its only when a person twists the throttle to a limit they are not comfortable with that makes an unsafe condition.

Mike, I don't know you but I'm sure you're a die hard moto guy just like the rest of us and the passion shows in your posts, right or wrong, I can appreciate your concern and opinion.

I think the thing we have to remember is the bikes have evolved greatly, to the point that going fast and well beyond ones comfort zones isn't very hard. I think singling out BC may have been a of a stretch. BC by far has 2-3 times the amount of riders on practice days that any other track in Ohio has. When you get that many people out there, your chances of injury also increase. Without statistical data, you're claim dosen't hold any water.

Since you're a local Ohioan, and I'm sure have been around for a bit, what tracks would you consider safe?

he has a personal vendetta with the owner of briarcliff therefore his opinion is invalid in the first place. He just was too immature to express his issues with JO personally and instead took to the Internet to bash the track like a middle school girl would.

I agree, 3 if you include etown practice track, out of the 3 the most injuries I see occur at the etown racetrack, etown in general seems to get a lot of people that have no business on a track on brand new 450s. When FOD first opened the double double up front caused a lot of injuries (I'm one of them) but it's a ton safer now.
After my life flight I started calling it Field Of (broken) Dreams. All in good fun.
I also crashed hard on the double double section. Apparently hit the tree there too but they've since removed that. I say apparently bc i don't recall any of it.
I don't think the track is dangerous itself, it's fast and shit happens. Simple as that.
Etown's practice track is much worse but that's a people issue. Never ride "c" practice there, no matter what.
