Good on paper, not in practice. Nothing like the good ol' government to solve a problem by creating a new one. Now they'll jack up the tax rate on the residents to pay for this, as well know the mass influx of people moving to Cleveland.
City council was banging the drum to raise income tax in Cleveland. From 1 percent up to 2.5 percent. Because they don't have sustainable money. Fast forward a few months later and "oh hey let's build a 2 million dollar track"

Tell the mayor to buy a piece of land and take his grandson riding there. Legally. Jackson is a SHIT head.

Here's his grandson, just a good boy wanting nothing more than to ride his bike:

Sovereign immunity would prevent all of that since it would be a government entity.
State of Ohio abolished that 30 yrs ago, and besides sovereign immunity doesn't mean shit when negligence is involved.. I'm sure the city funded track maintenance crew and flaggers would be top notch, like all other government funded entities.

Between the Unions, noise, dust, liability and cost there's no way they are going to build this.

All they want to do is wheelies. They bring in the wheelie boys for the Baja Brawl. They're at the track all weekend and never take advantage of the motocross track. They just sit around all weekend until it's time to wheelie.

I hope this isn't considered racist. It not meant to be.

The only people on here who have any right to bitch about this are OH residents. Everybody else is just bitching to bitch... This is great that a city is at least trying to figure out a solution to a problem. If it goes well then these types of tracks might start popping up all over the country. If it doesn't then only OH residents have to front the bill for the experiment. I just don't see the downside for the rest of us.

Riding down the street doing wheelies has become a cultural thing. It became the "cool" thing to do, just like posing with a bunch of money like the rappers do... If they can make riding moto into the "cool" thing to do then people will start doing that and posting videos of that on social media instead of holding up traffic.

I read all the time on here about if the people on this board even like moto and I never really got it. From peoples response to this I am starting to get it.

Baltimore just went through this , they would rather have a old factory parking lot , not a mx track the only way it works is if the city is in it for the long haul , slowly the newer riders will try it out and get hooked on it but it will take years to change the culture

I live in Cleveland and I'll tell you right now that I won't go anywhere near their potential location with any item I own that I also value. The only reason the mayor has proposed the idea is because his grandson has been arrested for riding in the streets illegally like 2-3 times. They have cut things like street cleaning, pot hole repair, leaf pickup, etc. but want to pay for this? I would be shocked if it passes.

They are better off just making the current, flat park a riding area for practicing wheelies, rather than trying to build a track that would likely be under maintained, poorly built, and dangerous to learn on.

How often are bikes in the way when driving down the road there?
I live in the west suburbs so around me - never. I've never felt the need to drive through the rougher parts of the east side to find out about over there.

This track project has now been approved by Cleveland City Council:

Reading the comments underneath the article shows that the idea is not too popular among residents... Personally I think it is a really neat idea, but I am a little naive considering I'm from a small town where crime is the least of our worries. Hopefully the council can come up with a plan that will make it appealing to our youth and create a safe environment.

You really cant be that ignorant can you? You think they haven't tried to enforce traffic laws? They run when the cops try to pull them over..... This will be the biggest waste of 2 million dollars ever. Use the 2 million dollars towards homeless people or something, not a damn dirtbike track in the worst part of Cleveland.

It'll never happen, I looked up that park. Right in the middle of a residential area.

Might make a nice slush fund for something else while the project is tied up in court

Don't be so sure. The Mayor is pushing hard on this.

That residential area is mostly Government and Section 8 housing.

it would make more sense to make a giant parking lot with power wash bays and simple work stations for use so they can maintain their bikes and their riding preference, then do some form of flatbed shuttle that has footpeg secures for quick loading/unloading. They could even hold community events there if it isn't popular among the bikelife community, the city has a new spot for a flea market or fair.

X2, maybe let the police actually enforce the laws, it's not the officers fault, the command staff tells them what to do. Istead of letting them ride all over the streets.buy a truck, trailer. Drive to a track. .
