With all the recent bikes getting stolen it has me thinking about ways to lock up out bikes better.

Currently we keep our bikes in a 2 car garage attached to our house. I have a deadbolt through our garage door track(this was suggested by the locksmith) and we have no other doors for entry except through the house.

I got thinking about locking them up with a chain/cable as well. Has anyone put some sort of ancor in there concrete floor to locked there bikes to it? I don't have any posts or anything obvious to lock them too. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet but I have been seeing some "interesting" people as of late.

Go get yourself a Tibetan Mastiff, anyone who enters that garage won't live to see another day.

I've seen a few suggestions to take off the rear wheel and put it inside the house. It's a bit inconvenient, but I cant imagine someone trying to load up a bike with only one wheel.

If someone wants to steal it, they will.

I keep saying it... GET INSURANCE. I pay $220/year for my '14 250sx and that's with $6000 in accessory coverage....hell i wish someone would steal my bike.

Alarm systems are cheap these days. Wireless and You install them yourself now. SimpliSafe $25 a month for the whole house.

Alarm is a good investment. Can't beat a guard dog living in the garage or around your property. It's a huge deterrent.
I've never seen a Tibetan Mastiff, but those things look monsterous!

You know they won't just write a check for $6K on the accessories right?

A good lock through the brake rotor is a cheap and fast way to add a level of protection. Get a combo lock, no keys so it's easy to take on and off. You want to get something you'll use. A chain though multiple bikes isnt bad but it can scratch rims and can be a hassle.

These low level ideas are really more about stopping the impulse thefts. That's why motion lights work so well. Just make it a hassle and they'll move on for the most part.

GET INSURANCE x2 it is cheap and then if it gets taken, you get a check. O, just fyi. No matter what you think you where told, your home owners insurance will NOT cover the bike. Even if the bike is in a house and it burns down.

Kryptonite NY chain and lock. They come with a sleeve to protect the finish. To cut the chain and lock you need a torch jaws of life or cut of wheel.

What is that bear-werewolf-dog killing?

I know people say get insurance but... people like me just want THEIR bike. The best thing is a dog. One that makes noise is perfect, i.e. a small dog will do the job. My family dog was a Chihuahua/Silky Terrier and every house around our one was burgled at one point or another. A neighbor across the road had a $40,000 car stolen. But none of my 2-9 bikes (depending on the time) were stolen. Since that dog died I have considered getting another however we have moved house and are slightly more secluded.

Lock it up , get the garage alarmed and keep it out of sight as much as possible. Wash it round the back of the house , not at the front, don't plaster your van with Moto stickers.

Don't leave it unattended at the races without locking it to the stand.

Welcome to Europe.

I'm surprised more bikes don't go missing from races. I race cross country and I would say half of the people there have pit vehicles like golf carts or 4 wheelers or something just to get around the properties. They leave their bikes, RV's and everything else just sitting for over an hour at a time to go watch the races around various parts of the tracks. If I can see what all is there for the taking, I know someone with bad intentions will eventually see it.

I lock my garage door with a lock through the track.

I also got a couple cheap motion alarms that have sticky stuff on the back from harbor freight, they were like $5 for two. Stick one to the garage, so If you shake it it goes off an is loud. Then will sometimes set one on the bike.

I got some fake alarm signs and fake security cameras off amazon.

Then I also lock all my bike together with chains.

If I'm out of town for a while I'll take a wheel off my more expensive bikes.

Then lastly I have a lab that will bark loud. Well I use to, he died last week. Now got a 10 week old one, so hope she's a barker too.

I have a pad lock thru the garage door track just above a roller. The bike I put a cable lock thru the front of the frame and thru the front rim and around the stand. On the back I put a cable thru the foot peg across the swing arm thru the back rim and other foot peg then under the stand back to the other side. It's not locked to anything but itself.

I always worry about thieves and I feel I live in a good area. Years ago in Michigan I got stolen from out of a storage area I was renting...never forgot that, what a feeling of being violated and don't want to go there ever again if I can help it.
I built a new garage on the house and added a second level that's just mine for storage, I made a garage lift and now keep my important toys up there in warm storage out of sight. I also think of things like having no garage door openers in vehicles that do not park in the garage. It sucks you have to even worry about such thing but it is a reality.
Another safety measure is our Caucasian Shepherd that's a protection/guard dog, always patrolling on the look out.

You have to show proof that they are on the bike...Usually receipts are needed butI have an A kit on the bike and have in writing that photographs of the bike would suffice.

If you're leaving the bikes for a long period of time, remove the handlebars. Makes them difficult to move around. Shepherds from Germany are also a good deterrent.

My bikes mostly stripped down, wheel off. Much harder to move that way. I've a van with no stickers, no windows.
I live up a crap hill that sucks driving up and down. Crime don't like going up high for some reason..
