Ok, a friend has picked up a 1982 YZ100 he plans on running next year. We have heard about the need for beefing up the foot peg mounts, but we have also heard some rumblings about some needed frame strengthening needed, but can't find any info.
Can someone point us in the right direction?

Good question, can anybody help?

I have a DMC pipe and silencer on order.

Can 1984 YZ125/250 forks, triple clamps, front wheel, front brake be used?

Yes but the travel is 12" -vs- 10", so the caveat is, you'd have to reduce the travel on the YZ125 forks.

The '84-86 IT200 front end can be readily adapted, uses 43mm forks and has the correct travel. If you want a front disk, the '86 will give you this.

Always wanted to build one of these. If it was my bike, I'd also use the '82-83 IT175 rear swingarm. There are some things that have to be done to get the IT175 linkage to work, but again I understand this is mostly a bolt-up.

Yamaha DG yz100 Timbucktoo racer is modeling some of the accessories available from some of the industry suppliers. The newest items are coming out from Dave Miller DMC Anaheim Socal. The works boost bottle is necessary bling.

GREAT pic!!

Does somebody knows if the fitting of the 82 YZ 125 swingarm needs major modifications on it and on the shock of the 83 YZ 100?

Thanks

Looking at those MT werks bikes at Diamonds and watching the racing........you can't get any better.
My first attempt at building a 100 a few years ago....a '76 but found out later the '82-83 era 100's were the hot ticket.

82 yz125 will fit 82/83 YZ100 . need to weld the brake lug to the swingarm. Now the 82 yz125 has a 17mm axle. So have to use 82 yz125 rear hub and a brake plate from Yamaha it200. Some one check my work make sure I got this fitted right.

Cool to see the old YZ100. I had a 1982 model that I bought in 1988. Someone had given it to my boss (I was 16 and I pumped gas at a gas station) They had left it outside for years and the carb was totally gummed up. They could not get it to run. I paid them $100 for it and had it running in an hour. LOL Living in the wet climate near Vancouver B.C. the bike being outside had turned near Kawasaki green with slime. I scrubbed the plastic down with an SOS scrub pad and cleaned the bike up. Canadian bikes were white and red. I kind of liked the yellow USA bikes though. I could not believe it, it looked like brand new. After the cleaned out carb and some fresh brakes and handle grips that bike was near new looking and riding. Ran like a champ. I had a blast riding it. It was under powered overall but you just had to ride it differently. Momentum was your friend. Thanks for posting. The YZ100 is a rare bike up here in Canada and I have never seen one since I sold my bike. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I find one local to me. Just good memories. Not sure how they would perform with a little hop up. I am sure my now 200# hulk would be a little hard on it. It would still be a good bike for my wife or even daughter one day. Maybe I will have to keep my eyes peeled for one. Just thought I would share my story.

I just picked an 82 last week and I'm looking to upgrade what I can. So the 82-83 it 175 swing arm is the go to swap along with the front end off a 86 it200. I also read somewhere that converting to a 428 chain is good for freeing up some power but that was it. Are people swapping sprockets from a yz80 or are they using something else? Then there's the bling stuff like the modern shift lever and Kickstarter? I've been searching for some info on this stuff but I'm not coming up with anything. These bikes are awesome and I can't wait to get mine going.

The person the bike was built for commissioned the tank and pipe directly from DMC and I don't know what they cost ,substantial I would imagine.

Great job, is it possible to see a pic of bike on side to see the general design with this tank.

The front number plate seems to be up sized, and this Pro Taper handlebar is not the good one (it's my point of view)

This is the bike we model after #19 Scott Burnworth. If you use Burners#19 front plate size in consideration with 43 millimeter KYB Forks triple clamp the number plate on tribute bike is actually under size.
That's all the tank pics and info I can post . For more tank and pipe info contact DMC , Dave Miller 714-458-1200 Anaheim,CA

In the early 1980's, aftermarket, oversized "stadium" front number plates were very popular.

The OW replica is just pure bike porn... Okay so a few questions, since I'm only 5'3 tall I really like the idea of the small 82/83 yz100 chassis. With the IT 175 rear / 43mm front end this could be an excellent weapon for me to ride in the Pre-1983 125 class we have over here in the uk.

The only problem I see is the 100cc displacement. Does anybody know what year 125cc cylinder and head will fit on the 82/83 K motor? The 1983 yz100 motor appears to be based on earlier yz125's, both the 125 and 100 share the same stroke of 50mm, the 100cc has a bore of 50mm, where as the 125cc has a bore of 56mm. Even the IT 175 has the same stroke of 50mm with a massive 66mm bore and appears to possibly be interchangeable.

As mad as it sounds I'm thinking it might even be possible to use a 84 IT 200 crank and rod which has a 57mm stroke, this with a std 56mm 125 cylinder would give a nearly square 140cc motor. The IT 200 is still based on the older yz125 motor and runs a bored out 66mm yz125 cylinder. If any of the early yz125 are interchangeable with the yz100 then an IT stroker conversion may be possible. Obviously with any big bore, however it's achieved, the carb, exhaust, gearing and possibly electrics would need careful consideration.

Anybody have any thoughts on this, mad as it may seem...

UPDATE: so I've been looking into if any of the above is possible. Stroker 1984 IT200 crank in the older 83 YZ100 doesn't appear possible. The 84 IT cylinder is nothing like the earlier yz100/125 that the IT's were based on and I'm now convinced neither the rod or crank will fit.

Yamaha went WC on all 125's from 81 onwards, so all of those top ends won't work even though the bottom ends up to 1983 appear to be compatible. The 1980 125cc top end will fit perfectly except the exhaust port exits out the side rather than forward, so unless I was to cut the frame then that's a no go.

The 1982 / 1983 IT 175 top end will fit perfectly, some owners who have done this have used the std yz100 crank with the 175 Conrod. The only reason I can see this is needed is because the 175 small end bearing is different (maybe wider), the big end bearing is identical as is the 175 stroke. This mod requires the full 175 intake, pipe or custom pipe, and Probably the 80/81/82 yz125 flywheel and electrics to smooth the power from the bigger pot (175 flywheel is overkill and no good for MX). The issue I have is this would be cheating on a big scale, so even though it is doable it's not the road I'd be comfortable with.

So what's that leave? Not a lot really, other than boring the std cylinder to the max which I really don't know the limit. Maybe it will take a 56mm piston from a 125? The 1980(g) 125/ 1983(k) 100 bottom ends are identical, and the 82 YZ or IT intake will go straight on there along with the electrics/flywheel.

Does anybody know what the std yz100 sleeve is capable of boring out too?
