Background: My dad is unfortunately not on Vital, but I thought you all would enjoy this. My dad has been on and off restoring his 1980 Honda CR80 for the past 12 years. I was 11 years old when I helped him tear it apart. He got very involved in restoring an old Ford Station Wagon, and with racing more and more each year the bike took a back seat until we eventually stopped racing.

It was in pretty rough shape, it went through my dad, his four brothers, and numerous cousins of his. He eventually got the bike back from a family member in the condition shown below around 2000. I remember I had wanted a KTM 65 so badly and we wanted to race after going to the Steel City national one year. He told me if he got the CR80 back and I could ride that then he'd consider getting me the 65. I can confirm his comments that the bike knocked him on his back the first time he rode it because I was absolutely terrified and pretty sure I wrecked it myself.

Yesterday he put the final touches on and finished the final build. It came out so awesome that it had to be shared. I heard a rumor that the bike may make an appearance at High Point this weekend, so keep an eye out if you are going!

This is added to our restoration collection with the 67 Ford Country Squire, and 1973 Honda XR75. It was a long time coming, but well worth it.

Hope you all enjoyed!

Wow ! Excellent work.

My first bike was a new 1982 CR80r. Same bike but with Pro-Link suspension and a plastic tank.

Love bikes from the 80's and 80's !!

Better than new

If anyone wants one of these for free I have one in a million pieces and it's missing some stuff.
It's been outside in the rain, but I am in Redondo Beach and it's free if you want it.
It was given to me and i think I have the title too, I wasn't interested in restoring it.
Engine is trash and rusty inside, but again free is cool.

Clean build! That woody in the background looks very cool too. Your old man's obviously a very dedicated person.

Thanks everyone, it's great to see some excitement after all the hours that he put into that bike. Here is a pic of the Station Wagon Before:

And The Station Wagon After

The only picture I can find of the XR75 right now is this one, and its in the middle, along with some other unrestored Hondas. That is also a 75 MR50 in the middle that still runs today. Yes my dad has a soft spot for Hondas.

The only thing better than a cool bike is a cool bike with a cool story! Great post, thanks for sharing

Oh man# You're dad did an awesome job on the little CR!! Thing looks mint! I'd really be interested in seeing that 73' xr75 too. I had a 75' xr75 as my very first bike. Gawd the memories on that thing. I'd carve out some little trail type track on our property when i was a kid and pretend i was Gary Semics on a factory Honda. Those XR and CR's were just awesome back then. So much fun.

That is a beautifully restored bike, congratulations to your dad.
I remember them when they were new, knew a couple of kids that had them.
I was obsessed with bikes then, I worked three part time jobs after school and weekend jobs saving for a bike.
I was 15 in November 1980 and the bike scene was so exciting.
I remember the agricultural show at Deniliquin NSW ( my hometown ) in early 1981 And all the dealers had the new water cooled 125's on display.
I was drooling over the Honda. My brother and his friend both bought one. His friend busted his knee up after only riding the bike a few times and I bought it off him. I was so excited.
What great days they were. I was so in love with bikes I never was interested in anything else and didn't even have a girlfriend till I was about 33!
