Thinking about getting a small like 800W generator to use at the track. Strickly to run a shop fan when it's hot af out to cool off between rides. Any of you guys use one? If so what do you recommend?

An 800 watt generator to run a fan?? I have 2 little fans, one is solar and the other uses a couple D batteries.
An inverter will work just fine. If you're concerned about killing the battery, run a dual battery set up. Buy a jumper box. Or if you must, harbor freight sells a small 2 stroke generator. It's dirt cheap and supposedly works pretty good.
Personally, I like bringing Popsicles to the track. I have a 12 volt edgestar fridge that'll run all the way down to -8 if I so want.

I've got one of those nifty Honda EU2000's... it's super quite, easily portable and light... Awesome Lil generator.. kinda pricy though! But worth it to me.. you can barely hear it running.

Yeah I been eye balling that. $1000 tho eeeek. But it's got great reviews. I might bite. Esp since it's supposed to be so quiet.

The shop fan I have is rated at 3amps or so I think. So a 100W inverter isn't gonna do it. Most the cheap little inverters I saw were rated at that. My buddy tried to run my fan off his 2014 ford 1/2 ton built in inverter today at the track. It tripped right away. The start up draws like double the current I think. I could use a junky little fan I guess. But I duno. Orielly has these 1000W generators for like $120. Might try one. Prob vibrate off my trailer Laughing

3 amps at 110 volts is 330 watts. So get a 350 watt/700 surge inverter. Much cheaper than a generator. I have an inverter that's good for like 2,000 watts, maybe 3,000. And it's
real sine wave, not modified. That baby was all of $150 and she'll run the hot plate full blast if I need it. Of course the battery can't put out that kinda power long, so I gotta run the truck.
Really though you should be happy with a little turd fan. A canopy and cold water is enough to keep ya cool even on the hottest days in the swamp.

Yeah the fridge is great for beer. Really it's great for anything, I can toss hot dogs in there and I ain't gotta worry about fishing water bottles out of hotdog water. It draws something like 2.5 amps at 12 volts. So I can let it sit all day and not crank the truck.

Btw I noticed Harbor Freight has that little 2 stroke generator on sale right now. $80. I might just go buy one myself lol

I've got a refrigerated van I haul my bike in. Hot days turn her on between motos and come out fresh. Serious

The company that builds them are into Moto and never thought of doing the same thing.

Rent a stripper to fan you between moto's LOL J/K There are many small generators on the market that aren't as pricey as Honda but just as good. You might check out Northern Tool or Tractor supply. Of course you might check Craig's list to see if someone has one they either got a larger one or just didn't need it.

Harbor freight sells an inverter generator that is like 2200 watts that has decent reviews. They are like 599$. I don't know anyone who has one though. I have a Champion 2800 that I'm happy with, but it's a little big to run a fan.

I have used a deep cycle marine battery and an inverter with great success and a good run time.
I have also used a small generator as well.

+1 on Honda EU2000. Expensive up front but they should last forever with proper maintenance. I take mine to the track and run several fans. Gotta do that in the summer here in Texas. :-)

I have a Honda EU2000i and it's amazing but no need for one to run just a fan. I would stay away from the cheapo generators from HF. They probably work fine and just as advertised but they are extremely loud. For a fan, I have a 105ah deep cycle battery on the tongue of my trailer hooked up to an inverter. I've run it for almost 2 days straight at weekend events running a fan (mostly all night while I sleep) and charging my phone and I've never run out of battery.

A marine battery setup is what I have been using for a few years. I sleep in my trailer usually and also keep music going and lights with a fridge. Lasts for a good 2 day weekend and easy to swap out batteries for extra use or long weekends.

I have that 2 smoke HF generator. It can be handy and is loud as is the average generator, its no Honda. I had to put some black silicone on the petcock from the get go since it leaked and I didn't have anything else to use. Otherwise it is well worth the money, just take you a cord and set it somewhere the noise doesn't bother you and it will be fine. Noise is gonna be at all moto tracks, so it doesn't bother me a bit. Been riding since I was 4, I can't hear shit

Nice! Thanks guys for the replys. I think I will def mount a deep cycle battery on my trailer. I will only run the fan while I'm in the pits between rides which isn't that much. So this set up should work fineCool
