I'm probably phrasing that oddly... But is Lakewood on the original site that was used in the 80s? I remember the track being much more straight up and down and perhaps climbing higher up the hill?

Different location as far as I know Crush. Was a little before my time, but I'm almost sure of it.

TV doesn't do the slope any justice, they are either going up, down or side hill almost the whole time, top that off with the power loss from altitude it's brutal.

Crush you are correct, this is the 2nd Lakewood track but they had a national at this location starting in 83 or 84 and it did go straight up the hill and then back down and up again. The first year of the national there they had watering issues so they cut the big climb out about half way up. The police built a shooting range close by so a few years later so the track only go's about half as high as it did the first couple years The other old Lakewood track was only mile a way but was a turd and had very little elevation change. The Castle rock track was also a national track and that one is where RJ exploded his wheel launching a jump and gave Hansen the championship.

This. I trekked up and down it a few times when I was there. Up the top where sign is it's very steep. Colorado altitude makes it even steeper on the lungs, specially with a broken leg and crutches

That is the old Lakewood track where Boo Stichter put it to Hannah for most of the moto. That didn't have any big hills.

There was also a Castle Rock Colorado National in the early 80s too. Where a 17 year old Ricky Johnson blew a wheel out in 82 losing the 250 title to Donnie Hansen in the final race. It might be that track you are thinking of.

Was there in 05. Place is no joke. The elevation change from one side of the track to the other is insane. The altitude is also retarded. Was breathing like a fat girl at a pie eating contest every time I would walk to a different section lol

80 riders signed up for each class in 1980. Not bad! I remember I had ticket #0001 for the first national at the old Lakewood track. It was really cool to see the factory bikes at the hotel and the riders at the track. Good times!

I rode there last summer and the cameras do the elevation changes no justice. Pair that high elevation. Even though my bike is fuel injected it was down on power compared to 1100 feet what I'm used to. And I was really feeling it. Got tired and winded really fast
