How all the factory efforts can travel half way around the world to ride on a rubbish dump is beyond me.
The only thing worse than riding on this piece of crap is getting hurt at the track then having to go to a Mexican hospital.

At least there's decent prize money for the riders thanks to the multiple-hundred-thousand euro fee that's been paid to Guiseppe and his greasy chums. Rant over.

Amazing spectator turn out! Gotta be what 200 -300 fans? lol I feel horrible for the riders and teams. All that training, all the work for the teams, all the travel. Imagine Guisepe is all good with knowing the million + dollars he was paid from the corrupt mexican government came straight from payoffs from the mexican drug cartel. Might want to double check the bike containers after this round.

If you look at it as a 13 round series it's not bad. Unfortunately there are 52 weeks in the year.

Round 1 March 28 Grand Prix of Europe Valkenswaard
Round 2 April 10 Grand Prix of Argentina Neuquen
Round 3 May 1 Grand Prix of Latvia Kegums
Round 4 May 8 Grand Prix of Germany Teutschenthal
Round 5 May 15 Grand Prix of Trentino Pietramurata
Round 6 May 29 Talavera de la Reina Spain
Round 7 June 5 Grand Prix of France St. Jean d’Angély
Round 8 June 19 Grand Prix of Great Britain Matterley Basin
Round 9 June 26 Grand Prix of Lombardia Mantova
Round 10 July 24 Grand Prix of Czech Republic Loket
Round 11 July 31 Grand Prix of Belgium Lommel
Round 12 Aug. 7 Grand Prix of Switzerland Frauenfeld
Round 13 Sept.11 Grand Prix of the USA Glen Helen

Attendance and surroundings/atmosphere were not what you would expect from a world championship.

It's the world championship so i'm fine with the series even going to freaking bangladesh, but for a minimum either the track needs to be great or there need to be 10.000's of people watching the race. Preferably both.

This Mexican GP in a parking lot with no fans is either paid by an unsuccesfull ''viva/visit mexico'' campaign, or by someone with to much money to spend. If its the first then this will be an affair for a few years, if it's the second you should wonder if you want to be there.

Not defending the poor outcome of the GP but.....

Would any racing exist in America if not for funding from energy drinks?
Big pharma advertising?
Alcohol sales in stadiums & sponsorship on TV?

Is our government not corrupt as all hell? We have cities committing corporate welfare for NFL teams all the time using tax payer money to build stadiums for free for the most successful business in America not named Apple. All the while the stadiums are costing 3x what they should due to union labor, and the labor unions then give half that money back to the NFL in the form of a kickback!

Luongo does not hold the monopoly on shady business. It's amazing how easily we can see it in foreigners yet we cant identify it right under our own noses.

That's exactly why the GPs are the World Championships. Groomed track commercial oriented events riders end up also rans at the MXoN.

When MXGP riders are the highest paid motocross racers in the world the MXGP series will be the premier dirtbike championship in the world. That is not the case currently. It was in the 70s, this aint the 70s.

What was spread accross parts of the track? Logging debri? Seriously it wasn't sawdust, it looked like shredded wood from removed tree stumps or recent logging.

I also noticed MX1 only had 19 riders...

The highest paid riders haven't been setting the world on fire against the GP riders these last years at the annual race of the nations

A world championship round with only 19 MX1 riders. That's lame.

They have been on the podium every single year. AND.....There has only been one team that's been consistently stronger.....France. Belgium has been strong as well. But to say we have been getting our ass kicked? You're still just the same old asshole you have always been.

Letting this guy back in here just doubled the work load for the mods around here.

This guy is one of about 4 different guys that will start 99% of the wars on here until he's gone. For him it's always a " Us vs Them ". Every single post he makes has some dig against American's.

I can bench race all day long about American series races and the GP's and do it without slamming the riders and people from other countries. He can't. He's a shit starting prick. Go look at all his past replies.

I agree, flyaways need to be less restrictive financially for the smaller upcoming teams. But then again the approx 17 top level MXGP riders who attend the flyaways would be pulling in the points for those same positions even if a gate in Europe was seeded with eligible local wild cards. The gate would be full but only for appearance not for competition

so maybe we could run MXGP with only Gajser and Febvre because they win every Gp????

And in MX2 only Herlings?

from the mxgp site .....

The dust has settled on the cactus and shrub that surrounds the impressive motocross track of Leon

MXGP OF LEON – QUICK FACTS

Circuit length: 1575m

Type of ground: Intermediate to hard

Temperature: 29°C

Weather conditions: sunny

Crowd attendance: 33,000

Regarding just the track - the one thing it has going for it is that it does look to be very technical with multiple lines and a tricky surface that requires careful throttle control etc. I liked it a lot better than the GP held in Thailand this year, which seems to get progressively worse every time they visit (I know that's not saying much). The problem with the layout is of course the lack of elevation. If a track isn't sand then it better have some elevation to imbue it with a bit of character for the fans (and the riders).

Looked like they'd added a bit of Mulch in places. It's fairly common to add it to tracks in Europe - the 2008 MXdN track was covered in the stuff!

I'm not a fan of the Mexico track either, it's pretty uninspiring and it only got interesting when it really started to rough up in time for the last MXGP race. Why are track designers so devoid of ideas?

I don't have a problem with them racing in Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter. I just can't stand these second rate tracks and I don't see how they help promote the sport to anyone. The Mexican track was barely up to club standard.

A series that doesn't do any track maintenance all weekend has a "standard"?

It all looks the same on tv!

There was probably a good soccer game in that town that day, those are on flat ground and many fields there don't even have grass!

Fully agree. But to be honest that isnt since/due to Luongo, in the 80's, 90's and 00's you typically had ~15 regular riders show up and some locals added to the race. Especially when the overseas gp's were at the end of the season.

The riders disagree with you they all complained that it was one lined and very difficult to pass on....Febvre said he gave up because there was no way to pass on that track.
