I love the sport too and I have great respect for those involved in the sport for altruistic reasons but, if they can't keep up they need to let go.
You are incorrect.
Kind of reminds me of Obama's approach to change...too many proposed changes on the agenda. By not honing in on the REALLY important items that ARE attainable, results in nothing getting done due to a lack of focus.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
- Neck Braces and shouler pads for no other reason than to show our kids that they are needed.
- Flaggers/colors/training - Definitely need more structure, but they are also working on it.
- Riders Safety committee, but make sure it's random, not just factory riders.
- Definitely need to clean up the 'privateer' definition.
- CC's are CC's and that is how the classes should be grouped, period! No more 4-stroke advantage.
- Bring back the works bikes, but also make them obtainable via a purchase rule. Make the purchase amount 'realistic' with regards to real value, not perceived value. If someone wants those forks, $10K isn't unrealistic, they have that much R&D in to them. Make it only available to riders in that specific event. First come, first served, no drawing out of a hat.
- Love the family viewing areas.
- I like the camping ideas.
Disagree with:
- Keep the women's class and make the moto's 20 minutes plus two laps!
- Can't black flag lappers, they paid their money to race, let them race the whole time. How boring would it be that for the last 10 minutes you only have 6-10 people on the track? Can you say snoozer? Besides, that doesn't promote good for TV events.
- Pro licenses should be evaluated every x number of years. If you havne't raced professionally in 2-3 years, revoke it. If you have ridden dangerously and continued to do so, revoke it. Do something like a 3 strike rule with respect to black flags. I love J-Law and think he is great for the sport, but maybe him being banned for a half year, then 1 year, then permanently would wake him up a little.
- Restrooms are a great idea, but to have flushing at every venue may not be realistic. Besides, getting into that nice stinky bathroom only wants you to get out quicker.
- Wi-Fi at every faciltiy, Why? You want internet, get it yourself. With today's cell phone technology, Wi-Fi isn't needed.
- Mt Morris doesn't have rights to a specific weekend. I think a logical route across the country should be made concerning all of the tracks, not back and forth. Privateers can't afford that, but then again, local privateers get a chance to race then.
- Keep the AMA Nationals in the US, why go out of the country? It's way to expensive for teams to fly all over the world. I think this one was really dumb.
- We don't have the right to name any track a host site for MXoN. We aren't the sanctioning body nor do we have the right to force our tracks on them. Several countries want to host this race and they should as well.
- Paved VIP and parking areas! BS - this is motocross, park in the damn grass like everyone else! Tracks can't afford to cater to the people who think they are extra special and need their egos stroked, amongst other things! Another laugher of a request.
- Let the tracks decide what foods to sell. If you are a vegetarian, ask the promoter/vendor if it's possible to have that next year. If they do, great, if not, oh well. Wine, come on, this is motocross, have a beer and become a human again! You want wine, wait til you get to a resturant and have your cheese and crackers, or whatever the hell goes with wine.
I'm in construction and the same rules apply you have no idea how much money it takes to put up a building and how little the contractors actually make. You would be humbled if you knew the truth! Trust me when I say every contractor is in it for the love of building shit.
BIG $$$ Sponsors want convenience......these people are used to being wined and dined and having a catered VIP area at team sports venues or NASCAR tracks.........not walking threw mud from a parking lot like the rest of us riffraff.
The flushy trailers that Budds has are a step forward. If the local stock car tracks and baseball parks can afford to put them in so can MX tracks. This alone will make MX more family friendly......and sell more tickets at the gate.
If a non US track wants to hold a race and afford to supply transportation to all racers.....let them have a race. This is what the USGP tracks have to do for the Euro riders.
I am not a vegan but know many who are and I agree with having the food vendors offering this option.
No way you can mandate nesk braces, until they can prove without a doubt that they work. First person that gets hurt because they where wearing one will sue... Liabitlity issue that will not be touched.
Black flag the lappers out of one side of the mouth and treat the privateers with respect out of the other.. Have another bong hit on that one..
Make the port a potty areas more like they do at a pga event. And keep the truck on hand going around and cleaning all day. Early morning port a potties arent bad....
Not sure how this will go over but......besides for the small amount of $ the tracks collect....why are there Am races at a Pro event? Outdoor MX & AX are the only races I can think of that do this. Do they Am along side the Pros in Golf? Baseball? Football?
Its NASCAR but when they have the big races here at Lowes there are other races at night to keep the 100,000 campers entertained.......but on on the dirt track....not the big track.
Look at those reciepts over twenty years and your opinion will change.
What is so good about growth that its worth taking motocross from the hands of those in it for the good of the sport, the very creators of motocross in the USA, and placing it in the hands of someone who's sole motivation is the mighty dollar?
Chasing big money corporate sponsers does nothing for the fans that attend - witness the numbers that are impossible to read unless viewed on TV. All BIG budgets do is put more money in the hand of a (very) few elite riders.
On the other hand, making the sport cheaper will improve the competition by making it easier for the little guys to be competitive. Also making the guys ride STOCK bikes will force the factories to up their game, especially if they want to sell any bikes to the riding public.
Im all for anything that will bring two-strokes back!!!
We are talking about PROFESSIONAL MOTOCROSS RACING not Amateur MX. There are those in the Pro ranks who generate their living from this sport. The bigger it gets the better it will be for them and this sport could use a healthy infusion of new participants and fans. A successful Pro Racing Series will help it to that point.
Am MX and Pro MX are two different beasts EXCEPT what's good for pro MX benefits Am.
If DrtDgr could give a damn about growth, I suggest he simply stop posting negative comments on the board abou it and just go riding at his local track or woods. Growth is not going to affect those pursuits in any negative manner whatsoever..
Safety:
Unfortunately there is no "solid medical evidences" but mostly it "appears" that it "could potentially". This is one of the reasons it is hard to implement it for promoters and track owners unless they have deep pockets ready for a court suit.
Also, the 3 main neck braces available on the US market work differently and with different side effects. That's why a real commission on safety is needed that involves all the companies that are manufacturing neck braces and protections (companies have to work together), doctors and other authorities in the field of SCI research and surgery. Organizations like SCI need to get involved along with the sanctioning authorities so that SCI establishes tests standards for safety devices. I can tell you that such a "commission" is well on the way.
Some riders have been "appears"/"potentially" hurt by neck braces, others have been "appears"/potentially" saved by neck braces.
Flaggers:
I am not sure if "quantity" is more an issue than quality, unless "quantity" is used to replace shifts in order to avoid "FOF" (flaggers obvious fatigue) after a full day dehydrated under hot sun and little food.
Quality is definitely an issue and more than just 'more flaggers" we may need more "flaggers in chiefs" at key spots on the tracks to coordinate (shout) at flaggers.
Points on Tracks and Rider Safety Committee are good.
I like the acing classes but I am wondering if I would not make the 150cc "a 2-strokes only class".
i would no change racing day back to Sunday, unless Sunday mornings only. Saturday is good for the professionals as it gives them time to travel back home to make it to the paying-side of the job on Mondays. It would also loose good and key TV space as Sundays are busier with other major sports and TV time slots would not be available or pushed back all the time (screwing with my DVR ).
If you go 2 days again, I would put 150cc (the Youth Class) on Day 1 and WMA on Day 2 with the Main program.
Don't touch WMA! The pro sport needs diversity and women and Ashley Fiolek is an outstanding ambassador to MX in general an not only Women MX and I believe that she, along with JP, Sherry and the other ladies, deserve to make the main show.
Timed qualifying: do all riders have to race qualifiers to make the Motos, or do you give a pass to the Top 10, Top 15? Top 20? in points?
Noise issue: definitely needing improvement although not noticeable as much, outdoor than indoor. Is it more accepted in our AMA Pro races because we are under "production rules"? Other "non-production" racing series don't have that issue of wanting to reduce noise.
Black-flagging lapped riders?... not sure. I see the point... Not sure if it' good for racing though. A musical chair system somehow... I have to sleep on that one for a while to think about it better.
Privateers:
Wow, i am surprised by the one: riders who have been at some point employed by an OEM in the last 5 years are not eligible? Wow, so Jono Bravo gets a a factory contract out of LL. due to any reason he loses the contract right away and pays for his own racing the following 4 years but can't be labeled as a "privateer", why?
Wow wow? Is this a "privateer" thing or a "lower class" vs. "middle class" vs. "riders with personal wealth" issue? Why can't a privateer uses his own fortune to go racing and decides to fly to the races and get his hired mechanic to drive? Why does he have to drive to 75% of the races? And what distance is defined by "drive"? He flies to Chicago O'Hare and drive 5 hours to Red Bud and back, 1h30 from Pitt to High Point, 1 to 2 hrs from Minn to Millville, Freestone is in bumfck TX requring long drives from airports?? I do not believe that the drive vs. fly criteria is justified.
Agreeing on the rest of the Privateers paragraph.
Pro Licenses: I notice again the use of the word "elitist" that takes me back to the "drive vs. fly" question. I agree on pro license requirement changes but would like to know your your suggestions for age limits.
Totally agree with the high-school diploma requirement.
Not sure about the 1-time fee for a pro license, does this exist in other high level pro racing sports? Or do riders have to pay yearly licenses too?
Two-Strokes: Yes! I hope it's feasible. KTM, the main producer is in serious financial difficulties and was close to filling bankruptcy if it had not been for a group of Austrian banks who injected more cash. The 2-strokes of the future may be a "cleaner/greener" bike than the actual 4-strokes.
Race fuels: Yes.
Works bikes: Yes but are would this not kill competition as it will get all privateers lapped by bikes with more advanced suspensions and engines?
Open Pro Pits: Double Yes! 100%!
Freedom of the Motocross Press is..... the Internet
Family Viewing Areas: Totally!
Restroom Facilities: Oh yes! Costly but worth it. Charge for them if necessary ($0.25 to $0.50) if viable. The best of them all, the ones used by Parts Unlimited at the Indy MotoGP (2 years in a row, worth the long walk or stealing a scooter to get there )
This is what I like:

I think that the purse is a matter that needs to be addressed in order to generate more funds for better pay.
I don't think that World Class MX is a good title. This is Amerika! It's an United States championship.
Now what we need is a Business Plan to generate money to pay for all this.
Amazing job Rupert and the Gang, you guys are amazing as usual.
Pit Row
Do you guys not realize what a laugingstocks you look with these "jokes" to the rest of the world???
You just make us die.......give it up, for f*cks sake!...........
The riders should not have to pay to race.
MLB? Yea I suppose it would be cool to have my kids have to pay Bubba for an autograph.
Its safe to say you are in favor of the idea of holding OUTDOOR NATIONAL MOTOCROSS at NASCAR facilities. I am not.
Your right. I love this sport. Ya got me there. Me being the problem? Well your free to your opinion.
Agree to disagree.
Keep the nationals how they are, i do agree with more corners/hills and no more blind jumps.. but black flag lappers? i dont care if you get rid of the WMA, but it is good to have. makes it not look like 'only guys can ride dirt bikes' (yet again, i do get bored of wma, its like watching the novice class at a kentucky fair race [for the exception of fiolek and patterson])
Non-US tracks hosting a National the way you put it is fine, but I doubt any would pony up the $$ to pay for all the riders to get over there. Which riders are "all the riders"? Top 10, Top 20? What about a factory guy that's been on the bench and is just coming back and he's not in the top xxx? I know details that need to be worked out.
I'm not against a wider variety of foods, but it has to have a return for the vendors. That's why I said to ask them to see if they would provide it for the race the following year.
I LIKE most of the ideas on the list.
But we will never be NASCAR, MLB, or the NFL for few simple reasons. Nor do I think we should be.
1)Most often the participant comes before the fan.
2)The the initial buyin into our wonderful sport can not reach the masses. ESPECIALLY now with tough times.
Anyone can play baseball, football, soccer, golf, basketball ect. It takes very little money to do so. Heck you can play them for free in most highschools across America. Do well enough and they'll even throw in a free college education!
Riding in your own back yard or acreage is against the law. So dad also has to have a gass guzzling pick up to drive to the nearest track or OHV park to boot.
Most people own a car. Fans are easy to come by. Anyone that drives a car can identify with NASCAR.
It takes a few thousand bucks to get into riding a dirt biking at a minimum. The general public would be shocked at the price of a nice new CRF450 or CR80 if they walked into a shop.
3)We are limited by the shear toughness of our sport. Just about anyone can throw around a baseball in the back yard, put Billy or Cindy in little league and you have an instant participant and likely fan. Motocross is hard!
4)Most parents out there think anyone who puts a kid on a dirt bike should be turned into CPS. How many of you have been chastised by the doc and nurses when you tell him that little Billy busted open his chin riding a dirtbike? Ive been chastised myself by doctors telling me I'm too old to "ride those things". I'm only 40! I got 40 more in me I figure! Hell I'm young in the Senior class. They think were nuts!
5)Public perception is huge. We have the whole anti dirtbike environmentalists that will convince you we are tearing up and poisioning Mother Earth. We have a public that is ok with a Harley breaking the sound barrier but a dirtbike out in the middle of knowhere must be 96dbs. One kid going through the gears down some neiborhood street on his clapped out yz125 is all it takes for a whole community to not like dirtbikes. No offense but the whole Crusty Demon movement was not what most moms want their kid a part of.
We have groups of people dedicated to closing off riding areas and lawyers closing tracks.
We are politically incorrect!(I like that) We are not a mainstream sport, and most of us are not mainstream people.(I like that too)
I dont believe that it is the facilities as much as just the nature of motocross that keeps it from being as big as NASCAR or stick and ball sports.
