I have been wearing 2 No Fear outfits for 9 years....tough as nails!

I would never use Oneal gear as they are screwing over all of the MC dealers out there by selling at Schlep Boys.

think they may have picked up JGR at the last minute, but other than that, it's a pretty small rider count.
There's a reason, have you seen their 09 gear? Man did they take one step forward and about 10 back.

I always liked UFO gear myself.

Yep my mistake. Its pretty funny Windham is plastered all over the 09 no fear catalog as is grant on the Geico Honda. Must be budget cutbacks.....

I have worn Troy Lee for the past 5-6 years , and it is ( for me anyways) the best gear i have ever worn. I think they all have different fitting styles , which the troy lee fit me very well. When i ran an Arenacross track up here in the NW , Shannon churchill ( god i hope i am saying the right name here) got a hold of me , and wanted to get Troy lee involved a little in the track ( banners and so forth) I had quite a few talks with Shannon , and i had told him that i was training kids and adults on riding and racing. he thought it was a good idea to get "me" wearing the gear since i was not only training people , but riding there a lot and it would get a lot of exposure. Two weeks later , i had 10 brand new sets of gear , with two jersey's to every one pair of pants , and about 8 pairs of gloves. I could not believe he had sent me so much stuff , i did what ever i could to push his gear ( troy lee stuff anyways) and i sold a LOT of it! Fot the 10 sets of gear i got , i probably sold 300 sets alone.

I really Dig Troy Lee....and they are a bunch of great people to work with. heck , i still have like 3 sets left i haven't even worn yet. been off a bike for 2-1/2 years now , but am looking at a new 09 450 this spring , and breaking in those new sets of gear.

BTW....forgot to mention a little thanks to my Friend Mike Corder for setting me up with shannon in the first place. Thanks Mike!

Cool story. I have a brand new set of TLD in the closet, I'm glad I bought it now.
um, not trying to be inflammatory here but do you not see the hypocrisy in what you're saying??? The whole point of this thread, which you started mind you, is exactly contrary to your statement regarding Jeffro's story.

Every company has a free product budget and "gives stuff away" and it's not 100% altruistic either, it's more like 90% marketing and 10% heart, if you're talking about one of the good companies that is. The ratio can fluctuate of course but in any case the overriding motivation is to make profits.

Giving Jeffro ten sets of gear cost TLD money (hint: the same kind of money salaries are paid with) TLD did this knowing that it would help them to sell even more gear. It's the same EXACT thing as paying a top rider to wear your gear because it will help you sell TONS more gear. They are both investments, the one and ONLY difference is the scale. This is marketing 101 and Jeffro understands it perfectly, he even seems to think one can expect to see a 300% return on such an investment. Still having trouble seeing the point in paying a rider to endorse your product?

For those of you who claim their purchasing decisions are unaffected by what the top pros run, as badly as you want to believe it, its most likely not true. And even if it miraculously somehow is true, then you represent the (vocal?) minority and you can't expect the industry to try to please the minority.

Presumably, people can see the difference between paying a couple of millionaire whiny high school dropout kids to wear their stuff vs giving free gear to the little people in the sport. But maybe not. And I can assure you that I never purchase gear based on who wears what - I buy gear that Motosport Outlet has on clearance and that has a reputation for lasting a long time and that I think looks good, and I prefer gear that's not made in China. None of that criteria has the slightest thing to do with what Ryan Dungey and Jason Lawrence wear. In fact, after this little fiasco I'd be disincentized to buy One Industries stuff. And I can say without a doubt that I'm not in the minority - in fact, the only guys I know who buy gear because some pro wears it are kids, and the problem with marketing to kids is the kids don't have any money to buy stuff in the first place.

Well we can both agree that this fiasco has left a bad taste in our mouth for ONE Ind. For me it's concerning the way they treat their athletes. Dungey was supposed to be their guy and they go and sign J-Law last minute. I completely understand RD's frustration with that. Although I don't condone how he handled it. I'm sure those things were said at A1 and I'm sure they issued a press release to try to cover it up and smooth it over. The damage was already done though and One had grounds to terminate based on Ryan negatively portraying the brand. Oh well, Fox really needed a top guy so all's well that ends well I suppose.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on the marketing issue, these companies know exactly what they're doing and it's proved to work, it's really hard to argue that. I believe you though that you don't buy gear primarily because of a rider, or riders, but whether you like it or not a companies reputation has a lot to do with the riders they choose to endorse their product and in that regard it's all related. Fox, Shift, Thor, et al would not have the rep they have if they didn't work with the riders they have over the years and that's a fact.

I'm a tool, because I'm a sucker for Fox. But actually that's because RC wears it. He's still my moto inspiration. Some probably have Dungey as their hero, but for me they don't need to hire anyone for a while, especially not those kids. I like RV a lot, but I'm don't care what he wears. I like his bike though. Go figure?

But this is all a matter of taste, and a no brainer. But I agree with Knuckle, that there might me some point in questioning these sponsor things. Something cool would be if ONE would be associated with like amateur riders. "We love motocross, and therefore we give clothes for free to people we think represents the core of our beloved sport". That amount of money they poor on JLaw would probably be better elsewhere?

That would sell me. But what do I know?

Well, you know more than One Industries does. A gear company helping the lower levels of the sport will sell more stuff than hiring Jason Lawrence does.

I wear the Andrew Short replica Fly stuff because he's a good guy that isn't a drama queen, it fits me well, and it was only $69 a set on clearance.
