While I agree with most of what you say here, let me assure you we wern't "Slow-poking on a trail ride" 20 years ago either.

Serious riders did 50 mile sprints through trees, creeks, hills, and rocks.

The two mentioned have more practice riders than any as well. I've only ridden Elsinore twice since the day it opened. It's to far from real Motocross, to actually be called a motocross track, in my opinion.

Again though, I say don't blame the track, blame the person on the bike...
When you push beyond your limit, (as we all do), you are bound to get hurt.

It's Motocross...We know it's dangerous, and have to deal with it, or stop riding.
I choose to deal with it...and have for many years.
REM is the safest track I've been to. People still get hurt but it's a rare event.

Best of all, practice starts at 9 AM, you get long motos but are still out of there between two and three PM.

Looks more like freestyle than MX to me. If I was king there wouldn't be jumps that big anywhere that amateurs rode....and if I thought about it long enough I probably wouldn't want pros catching that much air either. Mammoth is a great track but doesn't have any huge aerial sections. You don't have to have big jumps to make it challenging IMO.

The sport has become way to jump centric for my tastes.

Out east we have our share of sketchy tracks. Infact, Lifestar was at this track in Connecticut the 2 times I was there this year. It has a nasty 105 foot double that a person was landed on that day. The owner makes it look easy but he's a long time pro. Just have to ride within your limits, I guess. Make good decisions and any track could become fun

ahh...yeah.

NO FRICKIN' WAY I WOULD HIT THAT ONE IN THE FIRST PIC!

There is a track here in the area that is close to me but I don't ride there. It's dangerous in that he will have a hairpin turn where if you overshoot the berm you go directly into a high-speed straight going the opposite direction. That kind of needless danger gets on my nerves...

You gotta love the way our society has become. It's the track, or the bike is to fast, or the track owner. Here is a news flash for all of the clueless people out there.

1 The bike or bike company are not in anyway responsible for your safety.

2 The track owner is not in anyway responsible for your safety.

3 The track that you may ride is not in anyway responsible for keeping you safe.

4 MX is not a necessity, it is a privilege!

5 The MX track is not a bridge that you have to cross to go to work.

If you feel that a certain track is maybe outside your ability then don't ride there. If you think that the bike is too fast then buy a slower one. Each and every person is responsible for your own safety period. You bought the bike, you went to the track, you turned the throttle, and you make the good or bad decisions on the track! Here's a crazy thought, everyone should take responsibility for their own decisions. Just A Thought...

Define dangerous.

I would argue mixing mini riders with four wheelers and big bikes is dangerous. How about mixing C riders with Pro riders. A poorly groomed track (dangerous trash etc) with spikes used to outline the track.

The track itself isnt dangerous unless you ride over your head. Push yourself but know your limits.

Yeah

A bunch of self -righteous, spoiled rich kids who believe that clearing a gap will make them pro card worthy. Outdoor Tracks in general have become more dangerous requiring riders of every level to step up their game. I'd be willing to bet most pros would be willing to admit this.

I do agree with:

every person is responsible for your own safety

But you helped the clueless with your 5 different words of wisdom

#1 cannot be contested

#2 - A track owner is responsible. If a track is dusty and needs watering, who does this?? ME, YOU...no the track owner. If he doesn't, he is not taken into concern the safety of anyone on the track. You payed him the $20, $30 or $40 dollars for a day ride - he needs to water the fuckin track.

#3 - I don't get it. You give the word track a human persona. Sorry, I don't get it.

#4 - True it is a privilege. Our privileges decrease with every spinal injury. It really does. More and more tracks close down cause of the black eye served. Not the fellow riders, it's the general publics doing.

#5 No, it's not a bridge. A bridge is monitored and safety inspected by government agencies.....Just like your MX track will be if something doesn't happen to decrease the major injuries. I'm talking dusty tracks, exposed irrigation pipes. Importing cheap soil from unthinkable places. (Like Mototown in CT, which has full bricks, bathroom tile, and pieces of wood throughout the track. At $60. a day ride, the track owner can do better for us )

Owners like Lorusso are doing right by the sport in taking the best precautions they can, and more need to follow suit.

BD are you from the City??? WOW, me too. The most motocrossless place on earth

Yes, everything is here. An hour north (modena) has some of the best tracks. And obviously by the photo, I can tell you know, the most beautiful women in the world.

Thats what I said until I moved to arizona. All of the tracks were like hardrock.

They have gotten better in the last couple of years though. Owners have started to import soil, manure, sawdust, etc... And they've gotten better about ripping/discing and watering the track.

Pic of the Elsinore double sometime around the end of March this year.

A month or two before I landed on someones bike on a 10 foot table top and broke my back and femur.

Most dangerous thing in MX is the idiots.
Example: Fall at spode speed and leave your bike on the landing of a jump ruining someones year.

It's the fast straightwaways that scare the hell out of me. Even on the bumpy ones you can ride in 4-5th gear pinned and that is sketchy. Add trees off the racing line and it gets worse.

I like one turn, then one jump, repeat w/ lots of variety in the shapes of these obstacles.

The most boring tracks are those ones that just have a straightaway w/ multiple obstacles and you cruise the entire thing in 3rd gear never really gaining any speed. Then another straighaway w/ more of the same. BORING.

Oh, and I like big, yet sort of safe jumps and a lot of them.

So the main track at Elsinore isn't for everyone....They have 2 other big bike tracks, plus a mini track and a peewee track. If you aren't good enough to ride the main track, go to the vet track. If you think a jump is dangerous for your riding ability, then don't try it.

Personally, I like jumpy tracks. I'm not a kid who thinks that by jumping big jumps I'm going pro. I'm 26, have been riding for 3 years, and have to go to work on Monday just like everyone else. But how fun would a track like Starwest be without some jumps? How good would Elsinore be if it was only natural terrain? The jumps are part of what make it fun, even more so when its a flat piece of land. If you don't want man made features, go to the desert or a WORCS race.

Why does any local track have gaps? Fill them all in so the different skill level of riders can single, double, triple or quad them. They can still have definition, just not the do or die gaps. Tracks can still be safe while being challenging. Wouldn't call it whining Tiki, just a lot of people fed up with no place to ride for one reason or another. If it's not the noise or the dust, it's the lawsuits from the injuries. Don't even bring up the "track suing scum" topics, we all know they are out there and they show up at local tracks on a daily basis. Someday, the few remaining tracks might figure it out.

Did you look at the pic. That track looks like they have taken all the safety precautions that they could with out making it into a rolling endoro track. All the landings are long and safe. The tripple is almost not a tripple at all. The whoops are all facing into the a safe direction. What else do you want? This sport isnt safe. Go race harescrambles if you don't like the thrill of death. We are thrill junkies. I'd do something else if I didn't get a good thrill out of riding the piss out of a bike. Any bike. The 4 bangers take some of the thrill out of it but you just gota twist it harder.
835...go race harescrambles if you don't like the thrill of death? You're joking, right? In the harescrambles we race, we have downhills that'll make you piss yourself, and a few tracks have step ups in the woods that you need to do 4th gear pinned on a 250T if you intend to clear them. This in the middle of trees, and often with a mudhole for a take off run. Not to mention the log crossings, rock strewn, rutted, trails full of roots that you take WFO standing up. Where have you raced a harescramble?

Lorusso needs to install a sign for the 99% of his riders who don't hit the double that warns them of bikes falling out of the sky a hundred and five feet in front of them.

Then it will be all good.

I think tracks need "do or die" obstacles becuase when you finally grab a handfull of throttle, sack up and hit it. You feel like a champ. If everywhere was tabletops what is the fun in that? I know the local track I ride in San Jose used to be very technical, but apparently they were losing money because people with less skill were no longer attending because it was too dangerous. Motocross is dangerous. It is ride at your own risk. That why they have sports like, shuffle board and underwater basket weaving. The danger level is completely gone, but so is the fun level. Sorry, motocross is meant to be dangerous. Think of Evel Knievel, he made his living being a badass, if he was jumping tabletops instead of the fountains at Ceasar's, do you think people would tune into the television by the millions? unlikely.

No one is gonna watch you dip shit.

We're talking about practice tracks for regular riders and you start talking 'bout Evil K and Ceaser P.

Complaining about Motocross tracks? Moto has become lame, Non Moto has jumped the shark the dungeon has become vacant, maybe I hit a notch in life but this place has edged into pussyville. Remember when danger was what you wanted? It was asked for and provided. Now people are complaining.

Motocross has always been a sport of gladiators. Strong individuals. More pissing and whining here then I can tolerate. I will be back after the cotton cork gets pulled out for the month.

This isn't even humorous. Its really sad if you want to know. Thank goodness I dont have children to see this.
i hate what you wrote..you seem miserable ,so why not take it somewhere else..seemed like a simple question ..maybe i missed the complaining..i have riden so cal motocross tracks since like 96..i started off so kooky at starwest at the age of 15.There wasnt a intermidiate track to ride..That place was sooo scary in those days...im remembering a huge front table 100 feet or so ,the first aluminum hondas, and more baggy gear at the track than race.I had no buisness out there .Just rollin the supercross doubles the had lips were intense..granted your right throwin your leg over the bike is dangerous anywhere..but if they had a track like milestone then ,or a forum like this to spread word of whats the most hairy and mellow'st track maybe youd get less kooks at your radical track you want..Dont group Moto together..thats really stupid sounding...gladiators? easy guy..oh i get it the cotton cork thing is it cause ur on the rag?or just a prolific guy all the time..i think comp edges main track is the scarriest..4th gear wide is fast to be hittin jumps.but i cant ride everything.starwest will build it up tell some one gets hurt bad then they mellow things out..its a cycle ive noticed ..right now its pretty good
