probably a story on our MX roots and how we all rode 4 stks then the "rice burners" came along and were hated by the core riders. And now we are back to our roots etc etc... I loved the old 4 stks and the power they made, same as now they pulled like a work horse compared to a ponySmile

test on some new goody from AJ?
3/26/2008 1:10pm Edited Date/Time 4/16/2016 6:28pm
No, its the "Does Size Really Matter" article.

basically a RM250 vs RMZ250 vs RMZ450, one of the test riders still rides the ring dings. Came down to lap times and how they felt on the bike. All were fastest on the 450 followed by the 250 and then 250f. The 450 was much faster than the other two, but the other two were close with the 2stroke narrowly edging out the thumper. They said on race day they will take the 4-strokes because they are easier to ride, but for fun they will take the 2 stroke to moto with the buddies. They gave the 450 the win, but with the new rules for am racing they didn't decide between the 250's.

Cool read. Basically affirming the AMA's decision to combine the class, saying "this will be fun and interesting".

Well as much as am on the thumper bandwagon, I wish I would of had a 125 out at Glen Helen this past weekend. Best battles with friends at the track that I have ever had were on the bees.

Actually, a test was done of 450's vs. the 500AF, and the smoker won.

I would hope a 500 would beat a 450.

I guess that is almost as big a disparity as a 250 to a 450.... :D

Still waiting for that "all in" 250 MX mag shootout.

I'd take the smoker over the 4T in the 250's. They are in my blood.

I've seen a few shots of the amateur classes and it seems the 2T's are getting to the first turn first. Makes life a bit easier.

Yeah, that was me that still rides the "ring dings". I haven't rode a 450 in I don't know how long. I was faster on it within 2 laps of riding it, its ridiculous how easy it is to go fast on it. But with that being said I'm still riding the 250 2-stroke just because its so much funner to ride!!

i haven't done an oil change on my 450 for 1000 hrs!

i thought you liked the all black AF?

and if you are ryan cooley ,swap, or mitchell bailey you'd turn faster lap times on it.. ?

http://www.transworldmotocross.com/mx/p ... 66,00.html

Average Lap Times:
CR500AF Limited Edition VS. CRF450R
CR500AF LE
Donn Maeda: 158.69
Mitchell Bailey: 153.44
Ryan Cooley: 149.03
CRF450R
Donn Maeda: 159.06
Mitchell Bailey: 155.12
Ryan Cooley: 153.78

that was with a transponder , and done of the course of a full day-
so likely very very accurate.
they also had a few other test riders, intermediate and novices lap times in the print article.

it may not be the *best* pure mx bike out there,
but it sure doest fall very short when its average lap times at a track like cahillia are 2 to 4 seconds a lap faster..
than the mainstream mx bike regaded by most publications and ridewrs as the best..

cooley flat flew on the AF ..

now granted that was 2004.
the CRF's chassis has advanced.

but then the 08 500AF is in the 08 CRF250R chassis ,and advanced a bit past 04 also..
as always still lighter and quicker handling, than a four fiddy, and smells better.
(a good thing! in chicks and bikes)
