There was a reason Tony Alessi got Mike out of that KTM cotract a year early and is riding for less money.[/quote:2ict8wcg]
so far it doesnt look like its paying off... for what ever reason he looked more smooth and confident ridin the KTM vs the zuk... could be the intimidation of working with The Man....[/quote:2ict8wcg]
It may be supercross. I just don't see Mikey having the type of riding style that's going to work indoors. Too WFO and ride it out type rider, I think. But who knows? Bob Hannah did OK indoors (but the game was different back then).

I wonder how many people here that bag on the ktms have actually spent any cosiderable time on any of the bikes.

Man this board certainly has gone to the shitter. Since when did the alessi's do good in SX in the 450 class? Oh that's right its there first time in that class all together. If your don't know what your talking about then just don't talk about it.[/quote:gmj5qthj]
I didnt claim they did better in sx in the 450 class.......But in general they were posting better results.
Its a far cry from how well all the so called "experts" seemed to think they would do once the orange bike wasnt holding them back anymore.
Maybe you dont know what your talking about.
I dont think KTM's work as well in sx as the other 4 but they arent the "career wreckers" everyone claims they are.
If no linkage is such an issue then how are they ending up on the podium in the lites class which is arguably the more competetive class.

I don't bag on them, but I have one in my garage (an '02 250SX) and I can tell you, without hesitation, that even with a lot of suspension work including SXS forks, the suspension is ill-suited for anything like supercross. I can't ride SX, of course, but square-edged whoops and big jumps are tough on those bikes. Compared to my Hondas, they're hard to ride in those conditions. In flowing, fast outdoor tracks, KTMs are superb.

The bike isn't why I asked the question, though - He's just not looking aggressive and looks like there's something physically wrong. I was just wondering.

I dont disagree that there are better bikes for sx (although I've never ridden a true sx track) I just laugh when I read about how they ruined MC's career and are so inferior to the big 4.
I've raced KTM's for the past 4 years and can say that the changes made in '07 brought them much closer to the "feel" of a japanese bike. Im a +30b rider so comparing how they work for me as opposed to a pro is pointless. I do agree that pre '07 they could be a handful in the right situation if the suspension wasnt set-up perfect.....my '05 525sx and '03 450sx put me on my ass more times than my '07 or '08 250f have. Im not brand biased and I dont bleed orange....I just hate to see them take all the blame. your right, Wey doesnt seem to have any fire this year......I will say I've heard guys on the local am level say its much harder to get used to a KTM after riding a japanese.

long time reader of this board.. i love it when people "know" what a rider is thinking, i cant remember mike complaining about his 250 at all last year..[/quote:1kjftldt]
I do "know" exacly how mike and Tony felt about KTM. I do "know" how much he was angry with his 250f. This came from someone pretty high up on that team straight to my face,"Its depressing knowing that your competitions bike is 25% better then the bike Mike is riding and you know your going to be a second down right from the start".
Its not that he hated his bike, its just that the bike wasnt up to his competitions bike and they had enough of empty promises. KTM continuesly told them what they were going to do to get that bike up to par with the other bikes but it never happened.

I also "know" that the reason Mike raced 450 outdoors is becouse he felt that the bike makes less of a difference in the 450 class. I also "know" that Mike was ready to quit the nationals last year unless they got him some decent suspension. I also "know" that Tony thinks it was a big mistake to go with the money at KTM and not stay with Honda, he feels he hurt Mikes development in supercross.

You're probably right, but the old "wife twisting the arm" adage was too easy for me to resist...Heck, if Nicole twisted my arm, I'd do anything, she's a looker...

I do agree that they maybe have not got a set up yet for Nic Wey, and the fact he has been injured, is on a new bike and has also been suffering from an illness are all contributing factors in his lack of results this year. But no one and I repeat no one is at a disadvantage riding the KTM, they are as good, if not better than any Jap bike on the market

One thing's for sure, if I rode my '02 250SX and my '07 CR500AF on a pro-level SX track, I'd turn exactly the same lap times on average. That proves something, but I'm not sure what.

Comparing SX Results to Motocross results is comparing apples to oranges. So Yet again you don't know what your talking about.

I don't get to many KTM riders back to my track. I like to leave it really rough and I have big jumps and a big set of whoops. Just a coincidence . I think not .

I own both bikes jap and KTM, the jap bikes handle better in the rough stuff. My Honda 450 corners way better and requires less rider input. Last year it looked like the shock was fadding toward the end of the motos for MIke Allessi KTM 450. WE will have to wait till the nationals to find out.

I have raced jap bikes for the past 20 years doing MX. I just started racing offroad last year and switched to a KTM. After riding both, I can see why most riders have a hard time making the transition on a SX track. The KTM's don't turn well at all, and the rear shock is SUPER sensitive to adjustments and having the sag set correctly. These bikes have drastic handling differences when the SAG isn't set correctly. I mean huge. The shock plays a huge amount into how the bike steers, etc. They just aren't setup for SX type tracks. They need a linkage in order to correct it. On my bike, the shock feels like it "pogo's" alot, especially in the whoops. It wants to bounce the ass end all over the place. You can get them dialed in pretty well for the AVG rider like me, but I think the faster PRO guys are having a hard time. Once KTM adds a rear linkage to their mx line( 09 rumored?) I think the KMs will be right up to par. For an offroad bike, they are awesome machine though!

Scotty,

You make alot of sense there.

I also heard from a reliable source you will sell linkages on the KTM'S next year. So obviously they know there bikes aren't up to par so there doing something about it.

After all of it, though, I don't think it's really the bike that's bothering Wey. In a lot of cases, if we had a full field with James, IT, Alessi, etc, Wey wouldn't even be making the main event, I don't think. A guy doesn't go from being top-5 every week to barely qualifiying for the main because of the bike - especially when the bike he was top-5 on wasn't a factory bike either.

Again, you really need to pay better attention around here.
Many people on this forum are not "fans"
Many are directly or indirectly involved with the sport or racers but keep their identities confidential.
If you actually paid attention, which you obviously don't, you'd realize many on here know what they're talking about.
