I've been debating it for a while, but on Sunday I parked my Duramax. It gets decent mileage around town (14-15ish), but with the price of diesel around $4.00 a gallon I had to do it.
My mother has a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe that has been sitting in our barn/shop for the last few years. It is in AWESOME condition with only 52,000 miles. I got a new battery and it fired right up! I filled it up yesterday and it was nice to pay $40.00 for a full tank of gas!!

Huck - have you ever checked into a different chip or program that you can load into your Duramax? Most of them seem to be higher power ouput, but I think there are some that are higher mileage. I used a Diablosport programmer on mine and it gave it considerably more power and even increased mileage a little bit.

Yeah, I checked...Most I found would cost around $500 - $750 and add a couple miles to the gallon. Diesel is SO damn expensive now, I'd never recoup the initial cost. I get around 21 on the hwy with my truck...but this Acura gets 20ish around town and 25-26 on the hwy...and it's just sitting there anyway. Plus, if I got the chip for my truck, I'd be "in it" much more, therefor I'd get even worse mileage!
A street bike will probably be added soon...

I'm not a big dual sport fan. If I get a street bike, I will get a cruiser so I can take weekend rides. I've been wanting one for a while...and this might be a way to convince the wife that it's a good idea. Obviously if I spend $5,000 on a motorcycle I am not going to save any on gas, but I'll have a good time!
No worries about last night...I'll try to be on tonight.
Chuck, my wife has wanted one of those for a while...just to get around town with the kids and all.
Off road diesel definitely goes into my tractor and dozer. I remember when it used to be "cheap"...
Have any of you guys bought fertilizer this year...FUCK!!! $435.00 a ton for just nitrogen. Tripe 17 is over $550.00 a ton. Hay is going to be like buying gold this year.
Don't get caught with that stuff in your street truck. Big fine. And you know cops are looking for that with diesel being so high.
Yikes, thats spendy on the fertilizer. Is that granules? Homogenized? Weve been using liquid these past years - right now Trip-13 is $429 and 18-6-6 is $375. Theres a pretty large ranch in the Brazos bottom that is taking sludge from Houston and using that. And they are trucking in Semi loads of that stuff nightly. ALOT of sludge. But they make a bunch of round bales of Haygrazer using it.
33-35 on the highway (it's a 5-speed) and closer to 30 around town.
I've spent roughly $30 on gas this month. and the tank is full right now and probably won't need gas until the end of the month or maybe April.

This is for granules.
They have had a lot of problems with guys using turkey manure around here (Spinner should know about that stuff). It is ok for the hay fields, but guys here are letting their cattle graze on the pastures...you can imagine what that does to the beef.

Drove 347 miles and it cost me $33.00 to fill it up. Compared to 400 miles and $97.00 to fill the diesel.

Just curious...Think I can find a post on here about you bragging about your gas eater? I know several people have not sure if you were one of them? My wife wants an older Acura or Civic for driving to work. Her current vehicle gets about 15 MPG hwy.
BTW--Going to see Matt Davidson (cousin from AR) this Easter. His dad Dave is in Federal Lock up. They caught him finally when he tried to come over through Mexico into NM.

[color=#0000FF:2x7j27ct]I bought one over the weekend to use until my son is driving, then give to him (about 8 months). That little thing is great & we may just buy another one once we give this one to him. We live kinda out in the country, & drive a lot. I'm curious to see our fuel cost difference in the coming months...//TJ[/color:2x7j27ct]

Probably me...........it costs me maybe 5.00 more a week to drive my Duramax........I'm not losing any sleep over it.........yet. The important thing is........I can drive it from S. AZ to Ridgecrest, CA with my camper on it and towing a 16ft trailer with 4 bikes in 7 hours and average 14mpg w/ most of the trip at 94mph (where the speed limiter kicks in). Normal hwy driving it get's about 21to 23 mpg if I'm driving sane and it's empty, mixed is around 17mpg. Personally, I expect diesel to start dropping in 8 to 12 months, while gasoline continues to go up.
My 450X is plated, I ride that to work once in a while as well.

Yep, Big fine
I know the IRS (yes, the IRS) sets up at the scales in North Carolina sometimes and pulls samples.
I have heard all kind of different penalty scenarios, from vehicle confiscation to $200/gal based on your tank capacity.
The are probably state and federal penalties since you are evading the taxes on both.
With states losing revenue from other areas look for this issue and all the other crap they can hit you with nowadays to become more of a hassle as they look to turn them into alternate revenue sources.
It seems like when I wake up in the morning and shit, shower, and shave, I have already broken at least 5 freaking laws.
I have an 89 klr 650.
It is the prefect commute bike.
Just bought a Corbin flat seat for the longer rides I anticipate soon.
Thinking about getting a 2007 for a tour, and keep the old one for events and to throw on the trailer when I haul equipment to ride home.

Nope, not me. But I will say that I'd take my diesel over a gas pickup any day of the week...just not as an everyday driver.
My mom's Acura is actually pretty sweet. It's 16 years old, but looks just like any new car out today. Like I said, it only has 55,000 miles and actually hauls ass. We got it new in 1992 and she drove it regularly until 2000. Then we got her a Tahoe and she parked the Acura. I figured I might as well drive it...since it's sitting there and won't cost me anything. It says "premium fuel only"...but yesterday premium was $3.35 a gallon and diesel was $3.89 a gallon. Pretty easy decision if you ask me...
Tell Matt I said hi (David Maycunich - Southern Tag & Label). I heard about Dave...no matter how good you "think you are", they'll always catch you sometime, somewhere.
Pretty much the way I feel. I lived in Germany for 3 years back in the 90's and paid 2.00 dollars a LITER for regular gas. I figure we got a ways to go, might as well get used to it.
I stopped bitching about gas prices long ago because I know that we're still paying a lot less than in other countries.
I don't like it, but it could be worse and I've paid a lot more.

Yep, one of the bennies of being in the military overseas is gas rations. We'd go to the PX or the post gas station every payday and buy our allotted books of Esso gas coupons. It was like a buck a gallon. We'd all buy these special maps of Germany and plan all of our trips around Esso gas stations. However, if you went out of Germany, used a non-Esso station, or had to use your credit card.........you paid the going rate. In Eastern Europe, it was costing me like 20 bucks to fill up the 3 gallon tank on my bike.

Did you get the newer, slightly bigger model, or the older squared version like I have?
I'd like to trade up for the newer one because they have the bigger engine out of the TC in them, just don't want to spend any more money than I need to right now. I think you guys will like it. It's not big or flashy, but definitely saves some cash at the pumps and kinda fun to drive.

Not to sound like an ass, but why does that make you think your saving money? You just spent thousands on a car?
Post a reply to: I parked the Duramax Sunday...
