I really dont think the # of lights will matter. There will always be shadows in the ruts.

Other than Josh Grant who is looking in the rut. If you have ever raced under the lights you will see its a good deal. I raced 59th and douglas in OKC on Sat nights for years and their lights were not even close to what will be at lakewood and shadows were not a problem. You need to keep a open mind. I remember when Lakewood got the national back all the people who came on here and pissed and cried about how its not a national track and the pits were too small etc etc and it turned out to be one of the best nationals for both the riders and fans. Believe me there will be enough light for the track and the paits and the spectators . And for all the people who dont like it they can stay home and watch it on TV.

Im not pissed at all I just dont think its smart or safe. I dont think most of you really comprehend how fast these guys are. Sure night races are fine and dandy for LOCAL races where most people stay in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear half throttle but these guys are pushing the bikes to the absolute limit. Imagine going off a 4th or 5th gear pinned jump with a kicker that is sunk in a rut that you cant see because the rut is just deep enough for a shadow to black it out. That spells disaster. Ive raced arenacrosses where the ruts have shadows in them. Also I know quite a few pros that hate daytona because of the shadows in the ruts.

Although interesting, I don't think too many guys want to hit a rutted 4th gear jump at night, lights or not. The local Sat. night SX's under the lights are sketchy enough.
If it rains, it will be even more of a disasster.

You don't think they get ruts at the other supercross tracks? Amm, A1 ring a bell? Plus many others? I see your point, but the facts are, supercross runs fine at night, there is no reason an outdoor cant

The lighting power at a Supercross race is incredible. I can't imagine a true National track being able to light the whole track like that unless, of course, they decide to change the track so that it just happens to fit inside piece of land just slightly larger than, say, a football field......
But as someone pointed out, we already have lots of those races.

Its not like David Claubaugh is going into this blind, he has been testing and if one things that Lakewood has proven is they do things right the firsttime.

We all want bigger purses, bigger sponsors and bigger money for the racers..no one debates that.
Well, the present set up and systems isn't getting it done and something needs to be done to increase attendance and exposure.
We need to find newer, better or different ways to entice and bring out more people to increase the overall exposure and fan base, and if a less hot, less dusty and more comfortable environment is going to achieve that, maybe it is something that should be explored.
Wrigley Field had no lights forever because Ol Man Wrigley believed baseball was a daytime game, but eventually after decades of resistance, Wrigley Field got lights....because it makes it more comfortable and convenient for fans
NASCAR was daytime only for decades, but once they added some night races, attendance increased at those events and is why more and more NASCAR races are going night time...it makes it more comfortable for the fans
And don't the AMA goobers have to sign off on this?

They did and its a done deal.
sound wisdom
If they build bleachers and make me sit in an assigned seat at an outdoor national, I'll be done with it.
Post a reply to: Lakewood is going under lights!!!!!
