We tried it at our local track and attendance in both riders and fans jumped tremendously compared to a Sunday race.
Worth trying as long as lighting is of no issue.
Hasn't Daytona SX been doing this? Heard no complaints about it.

One of the major things wrong (and simplest to fix) with the nationals is that they are on Sundays. All of them should be on Saturday.

My oldest son went to his first National at 7. No problems. Hot as hell, end of July at Washougal. But he's an outside kid, so perhaps he was a bit more used to being out in the elements than some...

Southwick did that in 06 and 07, I think that has more to do with Toyota than the track owners. Not saying Claubaugh isn't on the ball by any means.
Heck Toyota was setting up demos and test rides at the track I work here in New England last summer.

I am sure the folks from Moto Tees would be real happy to lose 1/3 of their sales too since they invest money in the outdoor series every year.
My son has been at every Southwick since he was 4 and couldn't care less about the weather, he wants to be there to see them race.
Our local track under the previous owner had a separate night/supercross track, one night during one of the money classes all the power went out. There were guys going through the woops and a buddy of mine and another guy were in the air over the big triple when it went pitch black! Really Freaky luckily noone was hurt.
That said, one of the best races I have ever done was at the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels Tx. at night. Great soil, and the lighting was excellent. As long as the lighting is done properly then it is not an issue, in fact it can be better than a late afternoon race since you don't have blind spots from the sun. I know from experience that coming back up the hill after the start at Thunder Valley in the late afternoon can be sketchy. The sun is direct in your face and makes some serious shadows in the ruts and holes. MX tracks with lights are great when done properly, they allow more for everyone especially for long weekend races and weekday practices for those 9 to 5 folks.

the sun isnt baking the dirt as the riders dig deeper....typicaly at night the moisture level is higher than during the day....the wind dies down at night....yeah those are 3 good reasons why!

When a comment is so unbelievably stupid, I try to not directly respond. The fact is the poster is not a jerk, I think he was just fishing. The last couple of years at lakewood was hot, real hot. I went but my wife didn't and I really enjoy when the entire family gets to go. I don't think people understand how fast water evaporates at alitude. it real hard to keep the track moist. I can't wait to see to go. I also think alot more people will end up going. I will bet the entire place, including the parking lot will be lit.
