Bet every team he rode for went over budget on bars, but it was worth it.

Danny Chandler crashes, then instead of walking back to the pits, picks his bike back up and jumps back on. Legendary.

And I was considering not racing this weekend because of a scratchy throat...

Every young kid that says the 70's & '80's weren't as hardcore as us old guys make it sound like it was, should look at that picture. And he's on a 500!! I remember seeing that pic when it was in a new mag back in the day. I thought it was awesome then, but seeing it now just makes me think: Is there anyone racing today that would actually pick up their bike after it's all busted up like that?? Probably not. At least with an open bike you didn't have to use the clutch a lot!!

While this post is still near the top, has anyone got the Magoo pic of him doin' an endo on his Maico, it was a pretty famous shot, both hands off the bars, like a cop had just arrested him and yelled "Hands Up!"

The problem with banzai hill is that it never looks as steep in photos as it was in real life. I tried climbing it once...gnarly!

I've always heard that a picture of Banzai Hill just ain't the same. Never made it to Saddleback, unfortunately.

That video of yours BobbyM, with Magoo and Glover dicing at carlsbad, I had that ABC Wide World of Sports race on a Beta videotape. Played it so much it killed the tape and the player. Magoo was awesome that summer.

Here is one of my favorite magazine covers. Classic Magoo. Still not the pic I was talking about before, though.

Nice Bobby. I watched Jimmy Ellis, the Ellis from Fresno, endo down Banzi Hill. So nasty. Walked away after a few minutes. That hill made you pucker up!

Hey - I may not have ridden with broken bars (never broke 'em)

But I've gotten up to finish races with a broken collerbone (twice) and a jaw broken in 3 spots (once). Also raced without a clutch, etc!

Does that mean I suck? Sure, but I'm willing to put it out there and not ready to quit!

I think on some amateur levels guys got heart... but they get flushed out by the good-two-shoes racers who's parents are rich as hell. Some of those 'guys with heart' have to pay their own way, along with bills and eventually just call it a day.

That's just myopinion though.

I did a huge endo...bike tried to drive me into the ground like a tent peg...got back up...started the bike...rode about 1/2 a lap...hmmmm...something is definitely wrong...#$@%&*!%$#
Collarbone= 4 weeks??...less I think.

That was a practice day. I scraped my finger to the bone once ( got stuck between the grip & the clutch lever on a lowside/slideout )...still finished the race!! The Ambulance chick almost got sick, it was cool!!

I had an ambulance guy try to tell me I had probably "dislocated" my thumb when I crashed once (2nd lap of practice <img class= " title="Razz">)...

I was like.. "Nah, it's broke, you guys got a wrap or anything for the drive to the hospital?"

When I got to the hospital doc told me it was the worst thumb break he'd seen, because the bones weren't even close to near each other and he was amazed I could wiggle my thumb (very little).

He was such a compassionate doc, I felt bad... he kept apologizing for the news, and blah blah blah, cuz I'd need surgery, etc etc.

I was just like "can I go home now?" - then a nurse tried to splint it - which wasn't gonna happen considering it was at an angle opposite my hand, and I had to tell her that wasn't gonna work. She didn't believe me until the doc came in and said I was right...

I hate hand injuries :-P It sidelined me from some of my favorite off track activities for a few weeks!
