Leave the track the way it was or do you add table-tops and all that garbage for the new bikes?

Mow the weeds, add nothing, join the main track with the back one and run 45 minute motos for the pro's and 30 minute motos for everyone else. Run it backwards every now and then.

Leave the track the way it is. There were plenty of doubles and it also had one good table top right in the center just below and to the right of Webco.

I always parked up on that shelf where the two white pickup in the picture. Man i totally forgot about that until I saw this picture. I fuggin loved that place. it was unreal how big it was - remember the hill climb in the back? did any of you guys run it? I can't remember the name but it had little run out trails on each side for people that couldn't make it up to the top. I think I finally made it to the top on a can am 250

We always parked up on the terraces, that's my friends orange Dodge van up there. D.Wagner 82D

The Matterhorn, scary fuggen climb, no problems riding down it, but going up was hairy.
Winter of 79' while riding around breaking in a new YZ250G, saw Healy climb it on an 80 !

KTM,

I wish I could see the picture right now, but I'm at work and can't see pics for some reason. I'll have to check it out when I get home. If it's the same tabletop, (I'm sure it is since there was only one, ever) I have a miniview of me going over it over the flagman's head. That table always developed a knarly lip on the face of it and would kick you way up in the air.

Ozy, I think you are talking about the Matterhorn. That was quite a hillclimb for back in the day. Now it's gone, swallowed up by the dump site.

You put a sign at the entrance that says" modern bikes this way " with an arrow pointing at the entrance to the dump. Re open the rental shack and only rent out claped out DT-1s and TS suzukis.

just my opinion

Last rode there, 1979 125 National. Banzai Hill was more than enough. Don't touch it. Got 3rd at a High School Championship race in 1974, got my picture in Motocross Action Mag, so cool. Got beaten by Warren Reid, on his step-dad's, Jon R. built Honda. That place was so cool. A young Broc Glover was in the race.

Just prep it like they did for a national & run the heck out of it!

Just for fun dig up the old forward falling gate so us old timers(74'-81' ) could cheat a little!

If they ever run a race there, I'll stuff my fat butt in my truck & stuff all my old Maico's in the trailer & be there!

Your right going down Banzai was a real thrill. The G-Force when you hit the bottom at speed was incredible.

Here is a real cool DVD that has some fantastic footage of the 1973 Trans-am at Saddleback. It is narrated by Gary Bailey.

Banzai Hill, you would only touch the ground about three times going down. Big time thrill.

I don't think they ever prepped that hill. If you never went down it at speed you will never understand. Especially on 4-5 inches of travel.

Banzai Hill – the pictures do not do it justice. They tend to flatten the perspective.

I remember when you started at the top there was a ledge about 1/3 of the way down, you could not see the bottom of Banzai until you dropped of the ledge.

Leave the track layout the same. And the pits. Would love to see all the old sponsor signs back up too. Have vintage days with box vans in the pits. Upgrade the meatwagon. One time a friend of mine needed to be transported to the hospital and the friggin battery was dead on the ambulance. Had to run around looking for jumper cables.

Raced up Bonzai once during a CMC Trans Cal event, 5th pinned on my 82' CR125, downshifted 3 times by the time I hit the top. Fuggen loved racing up it, but going down tapped out took Elephant Nutz.

Lots of Saddleback, Carlsbad, High School MX at the Superbowl of MX. Irwindale Raceway. We probably did. I hung out with the Whitings, when we were racing the same events, when I was in L.A.

Very cool. I came down to the Superbowl with Danny Chandler, for the high school race. My front axel bolt was loose on the start line, Danny was Yamaha supported at the time, so one of the Yamaha mechanics jumped right on to fix it. I was so stoked at the time. I think Bauer was riding the race to. It always bummed me out that, when I won a trophy in So-cal, they wouldn't give it to me that day, so I had to have freinds down there pick them up for me. If you rode the High school race, tell me it wasn't cool to be in front of all those people. <img class= " title="Smile"> I crashed on the front straight. They watered the track just before our race, if I remember. Danny took a few of us out to. Same year Marty Smith endoed in the whoop section, I thnk.

That was 1975. Rocket Rex crashed hard near the same spot.
