His speed and results have never been the issue.

Maybe He doesn't deal well with the pressure of racing and that led to other issues and He is realizing the path He is possibly headed down.

My only wish for the guy is to stay clean and sober and have a decent productive life.
Ditto....I have always liked that kid!

Not sure of the personal issues Austin had or still fights everyday. It did sound strange that he had no bike to practice on any settings that he had to go off of. The guy has been off for how many years and I'm sure it's tough to get back in the groove at that level. Sounded like to me he was just wanting to have fun and not have all the stress in his life of being on a team.

Man I just hope he is putting in the hours and work during the week to at least be competitive whenever he decides to come back. The guy still has a lot of talent and can come back with some surprising finishes. I just hope he doesn't let the mental side of things affect his potential again.

My first thought was if you want to ride, get a job and buy a motorcycle. "Ill ride anything" As long as someone gives it to you? If you truly want something, you go get it, you don't wait for someone to hold your hand.

Pressure of a fill in ride? Stress? At the end of the day, its a bike and a track. There are everyday jobs that make the stress of a dirt bike race look like kids eating milk and cookies.

And it sounded like he was fine with whatever. His exact words were it's not going to break me or make me by not riding arenacross !!!! I say good for him and he owes nothing to nobody but himself.

He is clearly trying to ride back into shape and it sucks if you don't have a practice bike to do that.

I also read between the lines that he doesn't really enjoy Arenacross. Yes, he said he enjoyed it but he also mentioned that he didn't really want to do it anymore. Between having to race into shape without a practice bike and expectations beginning to grow on him, maybe he just decided he needed to get to the series he wants to be in first.

Having said that, I agree that things sound off and I just wish him the best. I'd love to see him get a ride in Canada and I think it could have the right vibe for him, be the type of racing he likes, and will give him more time to get back into race shape without having to race into it. Let's hope that there's nothing stopping him from putting in the work.

The guy was clear in saying that after he got on the team he felt the pressure to win and he thinks he's not ready and he's going back to the basics and train for outdoors and try race in Canada and now there is all these rumors, this is fucked up! like people want to see the guy fail...

I'll say this , racing the cdn nationals is no joke. Even if he's on a 250f up here , the guys go fast on home soil and know the tracks. It would be tough.

As someone already mentioned, it sounds to me like things started moving too quickly for him. I can't blame him for getting cold feet.

If he bungles his opportunity, he might never get another.

Strategically, it makes sense that he waits till he's absolutely ready before he makes his comeback. I feel that right now he's just dipping his feet back into the pool to see if he misses the feeling of going all the in.

I kinda get where he was coming from but I don't think he was very articulate in getting it across.

I took from the interview that he was basing himself at a ride facility and doing lots of riding and testing for a buddy to get back into it. The husky ride came up and he took it but that meant he had to give up his buddy's bike, but didn't actually get a husky in the meantime. So he was on a factory bike on the weekends and twiddling thumbs during the week. Throw in being expected to podium at will given his pedigree and I can see where the whole situation snuck up on him and wasn't as low key as he thought.

Hopefully he continues on and kills it in Canada

sounded bored to me. no money and no practice bike. didn't want to talk negative. He goes racing arena cross totally out of shape. outdoors be easy for him, if he can ride a few weeks. I was at lake whitney when he and nico were on 85s. unreal talent

Since Austin has come back, I don't think he has publicly announced what drove him away from the sport to begin with. The vast majority believe it was addiction.

With that being said, I would be curious if him getting that Husky ride wasn't putting him into a similar situation that got him involved with drugs in the first place.

Being clean and sober involves being fairly low-key. Get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, start over. Live modestly.

For a recovering addict (once again, not saying definitively he was) to be thrust back into the lime light, which includes money, stress, and expectations, he may have decided that that was setting him up for future failure. Just my 2 cents

Regardless if I am spot on our totally off, I wish Austin the best.
That is a good analysis.

There's a psychologist on this forum, I wonder what his insight on Stroupe would be?
