I good test rider will have ideas on fixing a problem and explaining whats happening. Not just an answer of yes or no, like or dislike.

a problem. hmmm. will the test rider identify that? aside from his emotions?

Would you consider a kid (65/85) rider hired by factories to be able to test or is his knowledge to limited

65 riders are honest. the older they get the less honest

To be a test rider you have to be able to feel if the bike needs go up another tooth or not

They ride endless hours on whatever is given to them, good set-up or bad (mostly bad). It is a love it or hate it type of job. lol, I would love it, heck I am the right demographic at the moment for current buyers of bikes!

See I think the verbage is a bit confusing. A "test rider" actually tests the riders on various things such as history, mathematics, language, and other things. If the riders dont pass their weekly tests from the test riders, they arent allowed to race that weekend.

Having seen a test rider at work (Mike Fisher) it is not a easy job to say the least. I have seen him test out nearly 10 different sets of forks. While the twch was changing forks Mike had to step away from the work area to fill out paperwork and to talk to the engineers. Then back out onto the track for more laps then do it all over again.

Mike told me a few times at races where he would try several sets of fork then they would have him do the report get back on the bike and do more laps with the set he just tested juat to make sure that what he reports is accurate.

Not as glamorous as it would seem.

Not really scientific, just knowledgeable how a bike works.

I test rode for Suzuki in 83-84 and my job wasn't to tell them what was good or bad for me, but what the difference was. I tested a lot of parts for reliability before they put them on a race bike.

The easiest way to explain what I did was when they went to a link rear I tested different size links and shocks to see how they worked together and the riders made there choice based off the input and fine tuned them from there.

Do test riders work? Yes, 95% of factory riders have no idea how to explain what the bike is doing or what they want yo change to get what they want.
