I think OP is gone, but I'll chime in.

I rode dirtbikes as a kid with my brother in Texas. Competitively. A friend of ours was killed doing it, and Mom said "That's it. Sell 'em." so we did.

Horsed around through high school, but missed the dirt. I bought one in college for my bro and I to enjoy and we ended that day in teh hospital with my multiple facial fractures and having to undergo reconstructive surgery. Sold the bike and swore them off.

My brother got cancer in '12, and died in '13 at 34 years old.. 2 weeks after he died, I went and bought a KTM 250EXC. I put my helmet on, did one lap, stopped in the middle of the track and cried and cried. I was so happy to have found JOY again, but damn, I missed my brother.

My mom bitches about me back on bikes, and I just shrug and say "Yeah, I could get hurt. I could also get cancer tomorrow and die." She nods her head, hugs me, and the conversation is over.

Life is dangerous, and none of us make it out alive. I'm not about to head to LL, much less even race, but when I turn laps at the track, there's no other replacement for it and it's something that doesn't scare me anymore, but rather, it reminds me I'm alive. Which is something that can be taken from any of us doing damn near ANYTHING each second.

Enjoy life. I'm 40 today, and intend to ride until I am physically incapable of doing so.
This is the most motivating thing I ever read.
I just turned 57 today, quit riding mx bikes a few year ago and now riding downhill bikes, broke my femoral head last year and now back riding again.
Every now and then I ask myself if it's still worth the risk, but the answer is still the same: yes it does, it does big time.
As you said "it reminds me I'm alive" and "and intend to ride until I am physically incapable of doing so".
I won't thank you enough for what you wrote and the OP should keep note of that. Whatever he will chose to do.
Thank you again

Is there much of a trials scene in the U.S.?

It's much slower than motocross, so not as dangerous, and is still hella fun.

Here's a video from a round of the world trials championships to give you an idea of what it's like:

When I gave up moto I tried drag racing and found it to boring. I started autocrossing and open track days with my Camaro then sold it for a vette and then a shifter kart. Racing 2 stroke moto really helped with 2 stroke shifter karts. It's just as much of an adrenalin rush as moto and safer.

Easy....figure out how to make a living. Right now getting 16 year ild girls is easy, when you turn 23 they wont want amything to do with you unless you have money/future. Riding is now a hobby so do what makes you happy. Local offroad is my choice.

RC cars. Seriously. Give it a try, but beware it's almost as addicting as motocross.

Hit the street.

Take 2,500 dollars, find a mid eighties Honda 750 Nighthawk in good shape.

Find some twisties, cruise to a National and camp overnight, run that thing once or twice at the closest drag strip.

In other words, go riding.

Wake boarding is loads of fun, but boats are not cheap. Plus you gotta find someone that can drive worth a shit that is willing to go when you are.

I will probably get a ski boat in the near future. I wakeboard from before it was invented to about 15 years ago as I always lived on the water. I even put a custom eyelet on my fishing tower bay boat. Wake surfing is very forgiving compared to wakeboarding and a ton of fun so I was thinking of getting a boat specifically for that.

Happy Birthday ttugrad1793!!! Excellent post

We literally responded at the same time.

I've found friends are not hard to come by when you have a boat. lol Ones that are worth a damn to help out with dock lines and driving, help clean the boat, and load and unload everyone's crap is another story though. Good luck with that! I haven't had much luck there. it's a lot of work. No shortage of people to ride and dip out before I even get the boat out of the water though. Up side is it's a lot lot lot of fun.

Shifter Kart...

A decade ago my parents lived on a private reservoir and had a Malibu Wakesetter with full sound system, ballast system, the complete panty wetting setup. Best summers of my life was on that thing.
