Awesome video that gives some insight as to just how insanely gnarly the sand track is at Club..

My first experience with this sand track was a few years ago when ClubMX had their very first open house. As passionate as I am for the sport, my racing speed is that of a mid-pack C rider. Another key piece of info: I had never ridden a true sand track before. So here I am, stoked to ride such a killer facility; but my bike wasn't setup for it, and I had zero experience on the technique of how to ride sand (I was over the bars, fighting the front end the whole damn time like a f'n goon!)

I have never been more *humbled* by a motocross track in my entire life.
I remember thinking "WTF AM I DOING OUT HERE?!? I don't even deserve to call myself a motocross rider!!" Laughing BUT.. couple months later I saw an interview with Zach Osborne about ClubMX, and he said he intentionally wanted it to be one of the gnarliest sand tracks outside of Europe. ...That made me feel a little better about myself

Highly, highly recommend anyone who hasn't been to ClubMX to plan a trip on their next annual open house so you can experience all the tracks. Their open to the public practice track is even worth a long drive!! Brandon Haas and his crew have done a killer, killer job; and always improving it too!

So I've never ridden a sand track either. What kind of setup adjustments do you make? More sag, more compression damping in the forks, less rebound damping in the shock?

very cool track, looks safe, just like moto every weekend in central Florida back in the 70's, in fact that track does not look that rough. As far as setup goes on a 125 go up at least 2 on the main for a fast rider, slow the rebound on the shock.

Pretty much, I like a PSI more up in the front tire(e.g. 14/13)can always raise the forks in the clamps slightly too. You need to ride a lil further back too, throttle and more throttle.

2 thoughts...

1. I miss that sound.

2. That track would be awesome for an outdoor national*

*I don't know if the facility is capable but simply speaking of the track itself... I'd pay to see a national on a track like that.

Slow down the rebound some and maybe stiffen up the compression.

I love riding sand! Sadly since I moved out here to CA from the Boston area I have yet to find some close to me.

I watch that video and think " Why the hell did they ever bring 4 strokes back to this sport? ".

Side note....gawd that looks like fun. What I wouldn't do , to go out and burn about 5 gallons of gas on that damn track right now!

If that's "insanely gnarly" what would you call this?

We don't have "real" sand tracks here in the States, so comparing ClubMX to one of the most brutal "real" sand tracks in the world isn't exactly fair.

there's absolutely nothing like riding a true sand track!

I've raced one called Hervey Bay a few times and it felt like I'd forgotten how to ride!
If you're fine with your wheels never staying where you put them or where you want them and love the feeling that you could crash at any given moment, you'll go really good haha

It's gnarly for sure. Hot and very humid too. I don't think it gets as rough as Lierop or Lommel though.

oh man that doesn't make it look sandy at all haha but yes hot and humid and I would definitely say it gets nowhere near as rough as those places haha I honestly don't think I could've even ridden around Lommel in that second moto last year

I remember racing at Cocoa Beach in the Florida Winter Series a few times. That was a beast of a sand track. I think it was named Diamondback.

1. Raise forks
2. Slower rebound, I tend to go 3-4 clicks slower
3. Keep the throttle WFO, all the time
4. Repeat 3.
5. Let go of the clutch, try not to engine-brake as much, the front will dive Wink
6.Stand up alot
7.If you fell like you're falling in a corner, front wheel dives or anything, WFO!! Grinning

PS, don't forget 3 and 4!
