Years ago, I bought the home-surgery kit from a local garage-dweller and

am still traumatized by the experiments I performed, so yeah, I'm not

too interested.

I can't believe how dumb some people are. What on earth would this guy be thinking?

I would like to think that there is a large amount of medical research and reasoning behind a Leatt or Aplinestars brace.

The R&D behind this thing is likely fueled by a 12 pack of Schlitz.

Scary.

Hilarious. Yeah, I'd like to trust Bruce Jones' extensive R&D efforts with my life.

Looks no different then Leatt or EVS. And yet you all are jumping on his shit. In fact aside from the prevalent issues of the potential of taking the body out of spinal stabilization if you landed on your back, it looks to be dispersing more energy into the back of the chest protector then that stupid tongue that fulcrums against your spine.

Soft foam is the way to go on these things. Thats my bitch on the subject for 2008.

Huh? It's very different. It offers no protection other than at the back, and the protection it does provide looks to be nothing for compressive loading.

Looks like a sad-ass football lineman's neck protector, and nothing more.

You have confused neck protection with hyper extension protection. They assist in slowing down the helmet and weight from hyper extension and injuring the cervical vertebrae. Same thing this looks to do, same thing they have in football.

The Leatt looks to offer more compression protection, but that is dependent on proper setup. To me this shit is all snake oil still. Its a dangerous sport and no real research either way has been done on these things. For everyone said they have been saved by these things, I have someone tossing the brace into the closet due to an injury.

There are more neck injuries in Football then Motocross. Maybe they know something?

Snake oil? I don't see it as that bad. And, I do know Leatt at least put some effort in R&D and testing. The guy in his garage? C'mon.

Most football players don't use that brace, so if that industry has the experience and knowledge you speak of, then it's probably saying that style of brace is of very little value.

Oh, and I didn't confuse anything. You said it appears to be the same as the Leatt. It isn't.

Most football players don't take to the field in only rayon jerseys only. Just illustrating how quick everyone is to deem this as no protection while accepting the others blindly.

You seem to forget that the Leatt was designed and built by a prominent Neurosurgeon while this thing was designed and built by a yahoo under a shade tree.

Painted brick is a sign of intelligence. White brick shows that you are a genius. I'd put my kids neck in that guys hands in a heart beat and save a few bucks to boot!

Totally agree with Tiki here. Despite this guying having less impact than a neruosurgeon or whatever, we know shit about which one is the better. I have the Leatt, but I choose to be humble when I know shit. I would like to see more detail pics, before I flame this guy.

What do you guys have against the Schlitz think tank. Some of my biggest accomplishments have come after a few Tall Boys. Or was that disorderly conducts?

FYI, SCI's are a major concern in football and while I agree that a cowboy collar is not designed for motorsports it was in fact designed to shift loads away from the neck in cervical region. It falls short of the Leatt in preventing the anterior subluxation of the neck.

One other point about football injuries... the biggest difference is when playing football you rarely hit an stationary object at 20 to 30 mph however when you examine the actual collision speeds, football impacts speeds are in fact regularly higher.

Email from the 'manufacturer':

This product is actually what football players add to their shoulder pads. It's sold by a company called Mueller, they have a patent on it, I'm only providing a service to install it. A company called Leatt braces sells a brace that attaches to moto-x cross chest protectors that costs $400 - $500. This is a cheaper alternative, and I think the leatt brace is too restrictive, causeing limited visibility by interfering with turning your head.

and

Some moto-x riders add a neck roll to their chest protector, that is only 1 to 2 inches tall, that in my opinion only creates a fulcrum on your neck to possible make is easier to break. This protector i'm using is taller, and won't create a fulcrum effect.

I'm sorry but what an idiot. I have a cowboy collar (what that brace is called) in my garage from my football days and it would not do shit. You would not be able to look ahead and would be hot as hell.

It's as good as it's going to get. Stretched and torn ligaments don't repair themselves, and once repaired surgically, need to be protected from re-injury. Even healthy knees should be protected from injury.

All the strength training in the world won't protect a knee from damage in many circumstances encountered in MX or football. I wonder why those sports have such high incidence of knee injuries? I guess everybody is just out of shape.

Tell me a story about one of your Trannie-friends that grew a new ACL through strength training and steroid use.
